Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

I would probably have lusted from afar had fine lad been at my sixth form. I did have a thing for blondes.

My current blond boy is being mildly annoying right now. Once he FINISHES his drink we can go brush teeth and then go out. but not before....

MaryBS · 08/09/2010 14:06

So long as the ditch isn't too deep. We could always dig a moat and build a sandcastle!

ASBOF - DD has already had one proposal of marriage from a boy I deemed unsuitable (thanks to his dad, thinks that the woman's place is to do housewifey type things while he just sits back...), but fortunately she wasn't interested.

Scout19075 · 08/09/2010 16:53

How old are Yr7s?

MaryBS · 08/09/2010 17:46

Age 11-12. First year of Secondary school. Thanks for the offer of buckets, we have lots, including one which makes a crenellated battlement for the castle walls (very posh, I know!).

amberlight · 08/09/2010 17:46

Yr 7s are around 11 yrs old.

Vaguely...
Foundation stage - little ones sort of 4 yrs old
Primary school 5 to 10 yr olds years 1 to 6
Secondary school 11 to 18 yr olds years 7 -13
but some areas of the country do it differently.

At DS's school, half the intake is from abroad, so many are Shock at the country and Grin when it snows in winter, etc.

DS is going to be 18 in a relatively short amount of time Shock

Mary - We too have a similar selection of crenellated buckets, bought in France and used by SmallBloke to create replicas of Krak des Chevaliers. Confused SmallGirl occasionally gets a look-in. Shock

Perhaps Mellors could organise a sandcastle competition? BabyScout can enter the under 2s class and we could enter the, ahem, over 21 class.

Would anyone like a little snifter? It's a bit early but the sun is virtually over the yardarm.

UniS · 08/09/2010 18:45

yard arm checked. yep, suns gone over it.
pass us a bucket.

Boy got married today, to his girlie mate. complete with flowers and a veil for the bride ( and pink wellies and pink tutu.). Boy claims it wasn't him, it the groom.

Scout19075 · 08/09/2010 19:19

Mmm, hump-day cocktails.

CMOTdibbler · 08/09/2010 20:22

We have a bucket too - currently in the bath. Touchingly, DS has been insisting on helping me wash my hair (I have a cast cover so can still bathe with him) - yesterday this resulted in a faceful of water as he decided to wet the front as I had leant back to do the back. My sinuses are nice and clean now..

DH is eating scones with clotted cream and jam. I am sulking cos I have no gluten free ones

UniS · 08/09/2010 20:32

CMOT- stuff the scones, just eat cream and jam. You'll feel better for it.

JBsmama · 08/09/2010 20:59

Scout, why does your house smell like Christmas... what did I miss?

Jackbaby has a cold. Runny nose and mild cough so far but the sniffling is making me CRAZY. Grrr. Perrrrrrrrfect timing... not. We're going to Seattle this weekend to a football game. Outdoor seating, game start is 4 pm so it might by chilly by the time the Huskies have, hopefully, won. We're going to have to cart in a load of blankets, aren't we [glum].

Scout19075 · 08/09/2010 21:15

I mixed up the first of many batches of Christmas puddings. Grin

Yes, yes, yes to Christmas puddings! I can't do them on the traditional weekend/Sunday because we're in the States. And some of the people I'm giving them to I'll see in November. I don't like eating them but they sure are fun to make!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 08/09/2010 22:04

Serpent - look at FB!

JB - think!!! Shock

Scout19075 · 08/09/2010 22:19

Feeling quite flu-like -- don't know if I'm really sick or the meds but am going to try to go to the GP tomorrow. Normally would ride it out but clinician told me not to since my immune system is out-of-whack on the meds. Started a few days ago but tonight feeling rough. But have a clinician appointment on Friday for my first follow-up (should have been while I was on hols, but obviously I was away so had to reschedule). Mom is harassing me from 3500 miles away to go to the GP. Confused HubbyScout is working from home tomorrow and while I try to keep BabyScout and I out of his way when he does, might see if he'll keep BabyScout while I go to the GP.

HubbyScout and I have our five year wedding anniversary in a few short weeks. I want to get him something traditional (wood) -- any suggestions?

Scout19075 · 08/09/2010 22:25

Oh... and those with older kidlets, is the school admissions/selections process really that intense and scary?! I've been watching the program "The Big School" and I'm terrified now (and BabyScout is only 10 months old!).

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 08/09/2010 22:37

Scout - I am, ahem, involved in the schools admissions process. FB me if you want to chat at any length about it. It is intense - everyone has a lot invested (emotionally, financially or both) in their child's education - and there is a bureaucracy to negotiate, but it isn't always high drama. Don't be scared!

ASmallBunchOfFlowers · 08/09/2010 22:40

Oh, and anniversary presents. Have you got an opportunity to go to a craft fair (or similar)? I have bought SmallBloke some lovely wooden boxes to keep cufflinks in from woodturners at craft fairs.

Scout19075 · 08/09/2010 22:42

Small did you see the program I'm talking about? My Guides just all seem to go to the village college from their local village primaries I didn't realize there was more to it! Apparently it can be like that for primaries, too?!?! Shock

Scout19075 · 08/09/2010 22:46

Most craft fairs here don't start until October. Sad I love a good craft fair. Though the box idea is good HubbyScout has lots of loose cufflinks, watch, phones, etc. I once saw a wooden docking station for mobile phones, MP3 players, etc. wonder if I could find one again.....

MaryBS · 08/09/2010 22:47

What did you do, JB?

UniS · 08/09/2010 23:06

Scout- out in teh sticks school application often is just as simple as its is your village. all teh kids from our village school will go on to the local comp unless they are sent private.
No choice unless you which to provide transport for your child to another comp 10+ miles away.
