Tea Room 17 - The Tropical Beach Hut

1000 replies

amberlight · 23/07/2010 14:41

Welcome to the 17th version of the Tea Room. We find ourselves on a tropical beach, with the tea room now in a beach hut on stilts, the waves lapping on the golden sands beneath. Palm trees surround us. Our virtual gardener/beach surfing dude/handyman, Mellors, is here to tend to your every need. He looks like the person of your dreams (male, female or otherwise ). There are of course holidaying Bishops and other leaders of faith, the Camels, the Bison, various guinea pigs, the tea room horses, a life-size cut out of George Clooney, the NMBs (please don't ask me to explain how Mohawk Babies joined us, and a wide variety of other virtual followers. We chat, we relax, we share how life is. All in need of friendship are most welcome. The kettle is on...and the distressed chintz sofa has of course made the journey over. Enjoy.

Laddeees I am sorry I have resisted joinging FB yet because I spend way too much time on line anyway, but am tempted by the more secure forum it represents,,,,, I mean, just us and Don Dave would be good

Scout, so sorry to ehar it's coming close, go easy on you

Won't hear a WORD against Peppa Pig - I love it, short, sweet, family are happy, Daddy Pig joins in, Mummy Pig trumps the lot of them and they fall on their backs laughing, what's not to love

We don't tend to telly much because Oxboy can't last more than 10 minutes and we are radio people, but as a breather for all we love it - often at weekends, down time and 5am its a must!

Amber, I can't believe they are being as they are - here's a Haynes Manual and a repair book for our intracate outboard engine that Mellors is mending, hmmm, he's looking nicely buffed up and tanned with his top off this morning!

Hugs and waves to all others, particularly Catita, great to hear from you

Tea have a great visit, I love hearing about Milk now I can imagine her saying these things!

Ailith is a good name indeed, but maybe plagued by people always saying "how do you pronounce it?"

I love CMOTtiddlers name

What about a Saxon name? They are good, ethereal and strong? Aowyn, Aethelflaed etc but perhaps sound a bit too lord of the rings these days....

AandO · 30/07/2010 12:26

I love Peppa Pig. Lovely stories, very sweet. Plus they say things like, daddy is making soup in the kitchen, mommy is working on the computer - I like that.

We don't really watch tv here. We only have a portable tv (that we keep in a wardrobe) with two tv channels. So LittleO doesn't watch tv at all but we do rent a dvd for him every weekend. I feel it is more controllable that way but that he still is getting to enjoy films. We also have the Peppa Pig dvds and the Mr Men series on dvd. The only cartoons on tv suitable for his age group are on in the morning, when he would normally be in preschool. The afternoon cartoons are all violent and so because of this he doesn't watch tv at all. Plus dvds don't have adverts so in that way I prefer them. He normally will watch the dvd once or twice over the weekend. It is good when you are really busy or sick. When I had swine flu he watched tv and dvds solidly for a week or so!!! What else can you do in those situations you know! So, I have nothing against tv, but am interested in LittleO only watching age appropriate cartoons and not more than a few hours a week really.

Oxeye - Do join FB, do do! I don't spend anymore time online now, we still do all of the chatting on here really, but it is just handy for seeing pics and things like that. I guess it will also be useful if any one of us have anything personal they want to discuss that they could not discuss on MN.

Just to bring some joy to your day:

Lisa Hannigan, wonderful Irish singer

And the Heathers, Dublin twins
www.youtube.com/watch?v=suvULQgSzQ4

I thought there's a good chance you don't know them since they're Irish, but they are great songs and I had to share them

oxeye · 30/07/2010 14:41

AandO · 30/07/2010 19:31

Dh went to work today at 2pm and won't be finished until 10am on Monday...I have a long lonely weekend ahead of me . How do you do it Oxeye?

UniS · 30/07/2010 19:59

I'll raise a glass for you.

BOy and I have had a crafty day today. I've been carving stamps for boys birthday card making session. then he made skate ramps out of bits left over and played with a toy bike on them.

Maybe I should make a tea room stamp and dedicate a letterbox to us. or maybe I should just get on and finish some of teh half done project round teh house first.

Treacle toffee anyone? will stick your teeth together but tastes very nice.

Scout19075 · 30/07/2010 20:28

HubbyScout still not home. No text, either, so don't know where he's at.

Scout19075 · 30/07/2010 21:14

HubbyScout finally made it home with the take-away. Full tummy = Happy Scout. Now I could use a drink.

SmoresNeedHersheys · 30/07/2010 21:46

Modelling my new nickname. Hello everyone!

CMOTdibbler · 30/07/2010 21:46

ank ooo oonis lovely toffee

What weekend plans do we all have ?

SmoresNeedHersheys · 30/07/2010 21:54

No set plans, CMOT, just our last weekend home until September sometime. How about you?

CMOTdibbler · 30/07/2010 22:25

Riding in the morning, then apparently we need to buy a rattle shaped like a hammer as a present for DS's keyworkers baby (no idea why he wishes to buy it that).

DHs family coming for a bbq on Sunday, so manic cleaning required too

thumbwitch · 30/07/2010 23:55

I am hosting a Cleaning Products party on monday so must not do any more cleaning or she'll have nothing to demonstrate on! ALthough I had to vacuum yesterday - my friend and her little boy came round and he has asthma, wasn't sure if dust or guineapigs would set it off so did a rapid clean up just in case. He was fine so hurrah.

Hello Smores - think I know who you are!

SmoresNeedHersheys · 31/07/2010 07:16

I'm following a theme, so I'm sure you do thumb! Don't know why, but felt the need to change. Will probably go back shortly.

SmoresNeedHersheys · 31/07/2010 09:52

Cleaning Products party? Really? Didn't know they had those!

Smiling at a hammer rattle, CMOT. He definitely has ideas what he wants! Tis a very sweet idea, though.

The weather has turned very grey and wet. boo! Though I guess it can get it out now so it's sunny and warm while we're camping. Not sure I fancy a week of cold, wet BabyScout. Speaking of camp, my house is starting to look like camping supply central. Between game things (including large buckets of sweets), cake baking supplies (boxes and other kit for ovens, plus ingredients) and two plastic boxes for BabyScout (one for toys and supplies, the other for bottles/milk/food) it's like a maze in here. Have to hide the food/milk/bottles, though, because BabyScout seems quite keen to try them all! Can't pack his toys, obviously, but have inflatable pools to take (for confinement) as well as wet weather gear, gro-bags, etc. Babies need so much stuff to camp!

AandO · 31/07/2010 10:04

I'm going to have a great weekend I have decided. No wishing dh was here. I will enjoy the order that I can bring to the day while he is away. Clean house, nice meals, time with LittleO and LittleO in bed before 8pm. Dh brings chaos to everything !!

thumbwitch · 31/07/2010 10:07

It's a company called Enjo - the stuff seems pretty amazing but like all these pyramid sales thingies, vastly overpriced. I can get things a bit cheaper by hosting a party so I decided to do that. I'm also going to see if I can get MIL along to it, cos she might buy me some stuff . I really want the dust mitt because I hate dusting - mostly because the dust flies around! This supposedly stops it. And, having 10ft+ ceilings, a high-reach bendy cleaning tool seems like a good plan!

I don't know if they do them in the UK - haven't heard of one - but it's just like Tupperware or Virgin Vie or any of those things.

SmoresNeedHersheys · 31/07/2010 10:13

Are you a newscaster or news presenter in the UK?

thumbwitch · 31/07/2010 10:26

is that aimed at me or A&O? I'm not, definitely - dunno about A&O

(and now would like to know why you asked that question!)

UniS · 31/07/2010 10:29

hey ho silver. unis unsticks her jaws breifly. Hi

That is pretty sticky toffee this time round.

Many thanks for the patches scout, yours are on their way. small- remind me, does small small have a patch collection or is it you?

weekend plans? we have a party to go to this afternoon, may stop off for a short walk to a tor on the way. nowt at all planned for tomorrow beyond church. Might continue to take down conifers in our garden and chop up the bigger bits for firewood.

UniS · 31/07/2010 10:30

I'm not a news presenter either.

SmoresNeedHersheys · 31/07/2010 10:31

Anyone can answer. I've been in the UK so long that sometimes I forget which is the British term and which is the American. I'm working on my challenges (a la FB discussion board) and have written "Do your best newscaster impression and give a report about Crazy Croquet" but can't remember if you're a newscaster or news presenter if in the UK. I know whenever I use certain Americanisms in writing my UL teases me and makes me change the vocab word to the British.
