Nursery concerned that my boy (age 3) doesn’t play with anyone.

my son age (3) started nursery at the start of this month. He has never been without me and for my standards he is doing really well. However, nursery has stated that he doesn’t play with other children and doesn’t want to take part in any of the activities. He likes to be around the adults more and staff are not liking this since he doesn’t want to play independently with other children. He plays at home fine but just wants my company. Nursery mentioned increasing his time there from 8-4 but I think that’s too much. My son doesn’t have any siblings yet so is the only child at home.

@Girliefriendlikespuppiesit doesn’t worry me because I find it to early he only just started nursery.

not sure your judgemental comment is helpful. Encouraging to play independently is on my to do list thank you very much. Bye

Early intervention really does help.

Social/peer interaction is an important part of development and one which you seem to have missed

it comes naturally to some but not too others who need encouragement to get there

My grandson is same age and doesn’t play with others at nursery yet. It’s completely normal. It will probably happen soon.

Sounds like you know what to do here, time and practice will be the main thing :) I just wanted to point out he likely won't be the only child they are highlighting this with, it's good they've noticed and even if their solution doesn't fit (longer days) it's still good they're looking for ways to help him. Every child in the class will have a weaker point for them to support so don't be too worried.
