Strapped child in nursery

My daughter was attending a new nursery for a few weeks because we moved and after few day I saw pictures that my daughter 3yo was strapped to chair, low chair, when I was asking manager about it she didn’t reply. Yesterday I saw one more picture on App where my child was again strapped to chair but that picture was deleted. Today I asked about that again she said my daughter was strapped just for 2 minutes because she was spinning around. I didn’t give any permissions to do strap my child what can I do now?

Remove her and report them to Ofsted.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 22/03/2023 16:27

Like into a high chair or a bouncer or something?

ksuu · 22/03/2023 16:35

Now, just low chair

That is unbelievable. Was this in the UK?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 22/03/2023 16:39

Like this kind of chair?

punishment? Absolutely not on.
activity that everyone was wearing the strap for so they didn’t slip? Fine.

Absolutely not acceptable. If OFSTED registered then they are no doubt in breach of their own Behaviour Management policy. Ask fora copy before making a complaint.

Nimbostratus100 · 22/03/2023 16:40

like a safety belt, or what?

Certainly not standard practice

Nimbostratus100 · 22/03/2023 16:56

please explain what your concern is, this is just a dining chair, with the standard straps that will be used if there is any concern about a child falling out

Rainraingoaway21 · 22/03/2023 16:56

Does your child have any SEN OP? I only ask because I am aware of a similar type of chair being used to help a child with particular needs. It helps them sit safely at story time and meal times for example. If your child was spinning around and wouldn't stop I am guessing they used it for their own welfare but seems bizarre they would not try other things first. You need to speak with the Manager and get firm answers.

Twizbe · 22/03/2023 16:58

We had that chair as a transition / booster seat when ours were too big for the high chair and too small for the normal dining chairs.

We'd strap them in ... partly out of habit, but also it could be a bit slippery.

What were they doing when she was strapped in?

Rainraingoaway21 · 22/03/2023 16:58

Also it might have been your child that found the chair appealing and sat themselves in it playing with the straps. They do seem to enjoy clicking the straps together and then trying to un-do them.

RichTeaCheddars · 22/03/2023 17:00

The picture you put is just a "high"chair that is low level. It comes with straps. Seems normal to strap in.
My daughter would see the straps and want to be strapped in - because they are there.

QuillBill · 22/03/2023 17:00

Why would they take a photo of her and send it to you if it was a punishment or if they were doing something wrong? That would not be a good idea.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 22/03/2023 17:01

I think there is a world of difference between “my child is sitting in a chair with straps and the straps were done up “ and “my child had been strapped to a chair”.

Msmossy · 22/03/2023 17:02

I'm not in UK but that's a big no no where I am. Especially as it seems it was used as a punishment for spinning around? At 3 they should have age appropriate chairs and strapping them in should not be necessary.
Are the children in the room getting so out of control that they need to be restrained? If so then I would say the room is very poorly managed.

Manybeards · 22/03/2023 17:02

Safety straps ?

Yeah agree with this. I don't feel I've fully understood the post. My daughter sometimes sits in a chair like that to eat or do activities and has the straps done up for safety. But she's only 2, not 3. Maybe that makes a difference? Sorry if I've missed the point of the post.

SoupDragon · 22/03/2023 17:05

So, they just had the safety harness done up...?

Twizbe · 22/03/2023 17:05

My daughter loves strapping herself in to stuff. You give her a strap, she'll do it up.

Caspianberg · 22/03/2023 17:06

Wouldn’t She just undo it if she wanted out? My 2 year old can just hulk style it out of those type of straps.

When my DD was 3 she would deliberately sit in chairs like that to do up the straps.

Now she is 4 she doesn't fit but will do up straps in shopping trolleys, on a rail replacement coach we went on for 3 miles, and is determined to work out how to do up her car seat herself.

Manybeards · 22/03/2023 17:08

So they just had the safety harness on ?
