Strapped child in nursery

My daughter was attending a new nursery for a few weeks because we moved and after few day I saw pictures that my daughter 3yo was strapped to chair, low chair, when I was asking manager about it she didn’t reply. Yesterday I saw one more picture on App where my child was again strapped to chair but that picture was deleted. Today I asked about that again she said my daughter was strapped just for 2 minutes because she was spinning around. I didn’t give any permissions to do strap my child what can I do now?

The manager being evasive and the photo being deleted definitely points towards them knowing it's not okay. If she was just playing and strapping herself in and out then they would have said that. Sorry OP, this must be stressful for you. I would hate to think that some kind of restraint was used against my children.

No. I have a three year old at nursery (just three) and the only thing she is strapped into is the walkodile that all the children get strapped into when they go for a walk. They each have a belt around their waist and it connects them all together. She's potty trained but even if she wasn't, she wouldn't be strapped down for a nappy change! If she was I'd be raising some serious concerns with the nursery safeguarding team.

No 3 year olds sit at normal low chairs and tables , they walk not get pushed and are only strapped into car seats they are never physically restrained for spinning in a room.

I think I'd make it clear that I'm not happy with this and don't want it to happen again. Put it in writing to the nursery.

Are people missing that this child is 3. My 3 year old would laugh if I tried to strap him into a high chair. I'm assuming these posters either never had kids or have forgotten what a 3 year old is like because there is no way a 3year old (Barr disabilities before someone throws that in) needs to be strapped in a high chair. At nursery they sit on small normal chairs at a table.

If she's spinning around they should deal with her behaviour and explain how to sit properly. Not strap her in.

You’re seriously saying that a 3 year won’t be strapped into a pushchair? Be for real

If they're in a pushchair then yes, but most 3 year olds walk and they don't get strapped into highchairs. We're not talking about a small toddler, this is a pre-schooler.

Guess what - not all 3 year olds are like your 3 year old.

I have this exact chair which I use as a dining booster seat. I strap my toddler in as other wise she’s up/ down and playing up/ gets distracted at meal times. Is this out of fashion now?

Rainraingoaway21 · 22/03/2023 21:04

The chair could have just been in the room and the OP's daughter chose to sit in it to play with the straps?

Could be something very innocent but nobody here can help you OP unless you provide more info. You just need to speak with the nursery to get to the bottom of it!

Mine hasn't been in a pushchair since she was 2.

I’m obviously speaking of the 3 year olds that ARE still in pushchairs….

It is certainly not the norm in nurseries and preschools. Children that age just sit in chairs at the table.

They said she was spinning around so they strapped her to the chair.

Manybeards · 23/03/2023 07:03

Or because she was spinning they put the strap on to stop her falling off and hurting herself

Manybeards · 23/03/2023 07:05

Op hasn’t made it clear if they were sat at a table doing an activity at the time

featherlampshade · 23/03/2023 07:43

My daughter has the exact same chair at her grandparents house, used as a booster seat to eat her food at the table. She actually does the straps herself and they keep her safe? Like safety straps..
she also like to play with it at floor level
I really don't see the problem

They told the op she was only strapped in for a couple of minutes. They said they did it because she was spinning around. That not the same as sitting in it and strapping yourself in by any stretch of the imagination. The fact they quickly deleted the photo would suggest to me they realised it was wrong too.
