Your poor sunflowers must be desperate to get out there @Thebookofcarolagain 🙄. They always seem to shoot up overnight and suddenly look like beanstalks 🤣. Hopefully it warms up a bit soon so you can plant them out before they take over the house 😁.
Typical about the ham though.
It always takes longer than the instructions l reckon.
It will be so worth it though it's delicious 😋.
Our tea was smashing fair play to my DH he did us proud 😁

FridayNighFeeling · 12/03/2026 20:53

Hi all! Cold, grey and very windy here too. With some rain thrown in this afternoon. The day for a wintery meal. Was steak and ale pie here with mash and cabbage fried with bacon, butter, pepper and a few chilli flakes... DH was very happy to come in from work to that Smile

Poor Mum and the other residents @DirtyGertiefromno30 DS had some booster shots - I had no idea they do them this year, but there we are and his left arm was very painful for 2 days after - luckily not the right arm as he's right handed.

Sleep well you two x

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 12/03/2026 21:38

Ah thank you @FridayNighFeeling😊 l am sure the residents and Mum will be feeling better tomorrow It's a necessary evil unfortunately 🙄
Ooh that sounds utterly delicious! Steak and ale pie with all those lovely sides sounds like the perfect comfort meal, no wonder DH was happy to walk in 😁. Your poor DS , his painful arm 🤗hope he’s feeling more like himself soon bless him.
The weather here has been absolutely terrible l hope it's not as bad for you 😊

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 12/03/2026 21:41

Oh that sounds a good way to cook cabbage @FridayNighFeeling.

Trying to ignore the weather, am watching GW and getting 2nd hand enjoyment of the garden 🤣
I noticed i have a couple of daffs blooming at last, yeah.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 12/03/2026 22:26

Yay to the Daffs @Thebookofcarolagain 👏😁👌

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 13/03/2026 09:37

Good morning everyone 😁
It's raining again and the rivers are up like hell here 🙄.
Anyway l have been for the follow up on my bloods, they were fine but one came back quite randomly, a query if l have celiac disease, of all things 😱
She examined my tummy and couldn't find anything. So she has referred me to see the Gastro team 😱
I have no symptoms whatsoever so we shall see, apparently it's a camera down my throat 😱
But at least no prep !
Hey ho everything else was fine. Just have to wait for that now 😁 off to the charity shops have a good day everyone 🤗

OP posts:
DirtyGertiefromno30 · 13/03/2026 09:38

Oh yes @Thebookofcarolagain they have found 2 missing episodes of Dr Who 😁.
How brilliant is that!

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 13/03/2026 09:54

Oh that's cool about Dr Who @DirtyGertiefromno30 .
Hopefully it's just a blip in your blood test. Remember when you go for the tube down the throat make sure they spray the anaesthetic right into your throat not just at the back of your mouth. I had that on one of mine and it was awful. The other not too bad after it was in as it was numb. Ask them for more if you can still feel your throat.
Hope you find some bargains.
Sunny here but wind is still howling around the place. If I get moving I might be able to put plants out without being blown into the sea. 🤣 Cant see my leggy sunflowers surviving in that wind though, arghhh.

Thebookofcarolagain · 13/03/2026 10:50

Have braved the wind and planted the saxifrage. Fingers crossed. 3 in a long planter with my polyanthus and 3 in gravel with some compost. Don't know if they will grow or not will need to here an eye on them. No signs of poppy seedlings yet.

Only 2 daffs but lots of leaves in my pots so fingers crossed for tulips and daffs to come.

Blooming wind was catching the pot I had had the compost in and blowing it all over had to weigh it down as I planted last one.

Looks gorgeous out but that wind is cold!
Oh damm I forgot to water them all. Will go out after my coffee.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 13/03/2026 13:02

Afternoon everyone 🤗
Blimey you have been busy out there @Thebookofcarolagain! 🌬️ I had to laugh at the thought of you trying to plant things without being blown into the sea 🤣 .That wind sounds bitter even when the sun is out 🤗
The Saxifrage sounds lovely though. Fingers crossed they take in both places with the Polyanthus . Your poor Sunflowers do sound a bit vulnerable if they’re leggy.
Wise waiting until the wind drops a bit or they might end up halfway down the street 🌻😂!
Hopefully the Poppy seedlings will still appear, The Daffs and Tulips sound promising though, lots of leaves is usually a good sign that the flowers aren’t far off so DH says 😁. It’s always nice when the pots suddenly start sprouting 🤗.
Thanks for the tip about the throat spray as well , that’s really useful to know. I’ll definitely remember to ask them to spray it properly if I end up having the test done. It sounds horrible enough especially if they don’t numb it properly.
Hope your coffee warmed you up a bit ☕ and you managed to get back out to water everything without the wind pinching the watering can too🤗.
Bought a little Christmas cushion for £2 very sweet with embroidery reindeers on it 😁.
Didn't get anything in the M&S sale but Dd1 bought 24 books 🤣 for £12 . They were 2 complete series of Dr Who series and a couple of others she fancied 🤗
In pristine condition she was thrilled to bits 😁
On the way home now 🤗

Thebookofcarolagain · 13/03/2026 13:29

Wow good bargains for your Dd @DirtyGertiefromno30 you will need a new bookcase!
Wind is still howling around outside. What a noise! Watered in the plants and survived. Was at kitchen window and realised there a gap in the long planter where my polyanthus are and i could have put another saxifrage in , typical. Might do it another day. 🤣
My seed box is sitting mocking me...I wanna get planting but not in this weather! I think i might have to bury my sunflowers deep when i plant them to stop them being broken and put canes in, not entirely sure if they will survive.
Ds1 wants Chinese for tea and ds2 agrees. I am not fussed will make my own. Was gonna make sausage (to use them up) and mince with yorkies but will wait till tomorrow. Will take them down to coop later and get milk and they can get the Chinese too.
Got a letter from hosp for another abdo scan, in April. Oh joy.
Yeah endoscopy not pleasant when they first put it in but after that it's not bad due to the anaesthetic spray.
Its freezing here, I have my heat pad on tying me to couch🤣🤣 wish it was a battery one🤣 My fingers are like ice.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 13/03/2026 17:45

Sounds wild there with you @Thebookofcarolagain. The wind has been really howling here too. Well done for getting the plants watered though. Typical noticing the gap in the planter afterwards 🙄, but the Saxifrage can always go in another day 😁
Your seed box would be mocking me as well. It is so tempting to start planting, but this weather isn’t helping anyone at all 🙄. Burying the Sunflowers deeper and giving them canes sounds a really good idea so the wind doesn’t snap them 👌🤞
Chinese for the boys sounds a great option tonight. Your sausage and mince with yorkshires tomorrow sounds lovely though, that's proper comfort food.
Bit of a nuisance getting another abdo scan letter but at least they are keeping an eye on things for you . Hope you have a lovely evening 😊
GW on tonight too 😁
Having some cheese and onion rolls tonight l don't want to cook 😁
Lazy me 😁

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 13/03/2026 18:12

Ds1 kept telling me if I wanted anything from Chinese just tell him. I noticed on the new menu that they now do ribs with honey chilli sauce which I love so he got them for me. If there wasn't so many seeds and slivers of chilli I could eat that sauce with a spoon 🤣🤣 Got thoroughly sticky but it was good. Had a bag of crisps I dunked in too🤣 Got milk in coop and they had cherry bakewell hot cross buns on offer so got some. Not sure how close to cherry bakewell they actually are. Maybe it was the chilli that stopped me tasting it properly.
Put heating on couldn't stand it any more. Had a padded coat and wooly hat on down the street! Wind has stopped raging for now but its supposed to rain. Oh lovely.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 13/03/2026 19:07

Ohh lovely @Thebookofcarolagain.
Those honey chilli ribs sound amazing, even with the seeds and chilli bits 😋. I know what you mean about the sauce though, sometimes that’s the best part 😋
Cherry Bakewell hot cross buns Ohh they sound very nice. Sometimes those flavoured ones are lovely and other times you can barely tell what they’re meant to be 🙄. I saw Neopolitan ones in Tesco Weds but l left them there .
I don’t blame you for putting the heating on either. When you’re out in a padded coat and woolly hat in March something isn’t right. This wind has been horrible here today as well. Hopefully the rain won’t be too heavy and it settles down overnight. At least you had a gorgeous tea 😋
Well l had my rolls and crisps just having a nice cuppa now . Raining like hell , the damn rivers will be flooding tomorrow morning 🙄.
GW on soon 😁👏

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 13/03/2026 21:49

Am watching GW @DirtyGertiefromno30 . Those alpines are glorious. No greenhouse here unfortunately.
That guy in Kew Gardens, that saved that plant from extinction, hmm something rather nice about him 😉

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 14/03/2026 08:50

Good morning everyone 🌞
Well it's sunny and bright but cold l will take that anyday over drab , warm and wet 😊.
That Kew Gardens guy was lovely, such a sweetheart yet sexy too @Thebookofcarolagain 🤣
Off to see Mum soon hope everyone has a lovely day 😊

OP posts:
Thebookofcarolagain · 14/03/2026 11:32

Morning all.
Sunny here and wind has dropped too. Might get out in garden to sow seeds after all.
Got myself all made up to look more human so ds2 can take my photo before he goes to work. 🤣 Bleughhh. Hate getting my photo taken.
Noticed a pot that had bulbs in which I put down at house wall out the way has leaves so have lifted it up onto the wall to get more sun. Fingers crossed. No idea what's in it😁
Must remember to put those little succulents i 'rescued' last year into the gravel.

Hope weather is good for you all.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 14/03/2026 14:41

Afternoon everyone 🤗
Still beautiful here 😍
Sounds like a lovely morning there with you too@Thebookofcarolagain😊 Perfect weather for sowing a few seeds now the wind’s dropped 😊
And good for you getting all made up for the photo 🤗
I hate having mine taken too, but at least it’ll be done 👍 ✅
Mystery bulbs are always such 😊. Fingers crossed they like their new sunny spot. And the rescued succulents should love the gravel ,👏
Hope the weather holds and you enjoy a lot of time in the garden today ☀️
Been to see Mum who was fine there, gave her flowers and Lindt chocolates and perfume for Mother's day. My sister and bil are going tomorrow and my Brother and his wife and son , so Mum will be too tired for us as well but l don't like not going even if Mum doesn't know it's Mother's day.
Anyway we are off to Cardiff to watch the rugby . We weren't going to go but my friend had 3 tickets so we bought them off her. I am going shopping and the girls and DH are going to watch it. So everyone is happy 😁

Thebookofcarolagain · 14/03/2026 15:18

Had a nice time in garden @DirtyGertiefromno30 I planted lots of seeds in the off chance they will take. The little border up in the high area has a couple of aquilegias and snap dragon seedlings growing already from self seeding so just added more🤣 There are also foxgloves that will flower this year. Plus that plant with the little white flowers that self seeded up there last year i sowed a few seeds of that too. Did sunflowers in both beds and the aqua and snaps too. Sowed some aquas in gravel too.
Sorted out a tub out front, found bulbs growing but under the soil kinda sideways, 2 are still white growth but one was poking up dark red. No idea! Plus another plant growing, think it's the chrysanthemum from last year that survived, it broke into 3 so planted it in between the bulbs. I put new compost in mixed it up, planted it all then sowed the last of my sunflowers in it. Put one of the succulents in the gravel the other one is still very small so put it in sunny area will do it in a day or two. Nice to be busy. Fingers crossed I haven't killed anything 🤣
Enjoy your shopping, hope you get a few bargains.
I am not expecting anything for Mothers Day. kids are oblivious 🤣
Thinking I might bake some biscuits after my coffee.

Good grief auto correct made a nonsense off garden stuff! Changed sowed to sized, every time! Changed other words to nonsense too. Have checked it twice to get it to stay correct! Just stop!

Thebookofcarolagain · 14/03/2026 15:23

Brrr it's really cold and cloudy now, and wind is starting to make itself known. i went out at the right time!

FridayNighFeeling · 14/03/2026 15:31

Hope the photo was OK @Thebookofcarolagain - hair and make up done Smile
Rugby on @DirtyGertiefromno30 ? Super Saturday!

Beautiful sunshine, but just shut the door and put the heating on as it's nippy now even with slippers and thick cardigan.

Happy mother's day to you both Flowers

Thebookofcarolagain · 14/03/2026 17:07

Happy Mothers Day to you too @FridayNighFeeling.

Got biscuits in oven, tea on, dishes done, i am done for the day (till I need to put yorkie batter in 🤣)
Sun came back out for a while but grey clouds now and chilly.

DirtyGertiefromno30 · 14/03/2026 21:56

We are back at last ! Terrible time trying to get out of the car park took us an hour to get out of there 🙄. Anyway it was well worth it, they had a fantastic time. Wales won for the first time in 3 years and they were thrilled to bits 😁.
Sounds like you had a really productive time in the garden @Thebookofcarolagain 🌱 Self seeders are so great, the Aquilegias, Snapdragons and Foxgloves popping up must be a lovely surprise 😁. Always fun when bulbs appear and you’ve no idea what they’ll turn into and a great idea freshening the tub with new compost and putting the Chrysanthemum in with the bulbs. And the Sunflowers everywhere will look gorgeous if they take.Fingers crossed 🤞 Nothing better than coming in to biscuits in the oven and a cuppa 🍪☕.
And who knows, the kids might still surprise you for Mother’s Day you never know ! 🤞🤗
Ah happy Mother's day to you too @FridayNighFeeling & @Thebookofcarolagain hope you have a wonderful day both 🤗.
Yes @FridayNighFeeling three matches all in one day of all things🙄. I went shopping but did not get anything just window shopped 😁
Watching the last game now.
Very close match indeed 🤩

Morning all
That was a long day @DirtyGertiefromno30 . Sometimes window shopping is just what hits the spot. Think of all the money you saved just looking at stuff🤣
Sunny here but windy as usual.
Woke up early so just got up, done nothing except make some toast and put dishes away so far. Need to do something today, housework i suspect, oh joy.
Happy Mothers Dsy all.

bookbook · 15/03/2026 11:08

Morning!
Happy Mothers Day to you all xx
It has been howling here too , but yesterday it was also gorgeous and sunny , so managed to get 2 loads of washing hung out and dried . I popped some more on the line today first thing , but its due to drizzle for the rest of the day , so keeping an eye on the window , so I can rush out and bring it in - I like sheets to dry on the line , tumble drying them is a nightmare !
I have been busy catching up with gardening jobs. As DD1 is getting ready to move , I have repotted the plants she brought from the old house ( Not many , but things she loves .) I got hold of some plants in pots on our free site ( cant remember if I mentioned it )- 3 hydrangeas in nice heavy pots . So I have refreshed them with some new compost , put some slow release food in , and covered the soil with horticultural grit . They should last a while with minimal up keep, fingers crossed !
Everyone is here for tea , so doing gammon , roast potatoes and creamy leeks.
Waves to everyone
Take care all x
