Calling all longtime lurkers...

If you’ve been reading Mumsnet for a while, but haven't yet plucked up the courage to jump into the fray with a post of your own - then this is YOUR week!

It's time to take the plunge and become a fully-fledged Mumsnetter - all you have to do is to say hello on this thread, and boom, you're in. What's more, your name will be put in the Mumsnet sombrero to win one of our exciting spot prizes.

What are the prizes, you ask? WELL - only a clutch of exclusive Mumsnet mugs, usually solely available to MNHQ staff and sleb visitors!

Once you've posted here, go and have a browse through our ‘getting started’ guide and . We've gathered the most legendary threads in the site’s history in one place, so you can do your background reading - and if you can't yet tell your BFP from your LTB, here's a handy guide to Mumsnet acronyms.

Seasoned Mumsnetter who extend the hand of friendship to newbies will also have their names put in the hat, just for being lovely people.

So come on folks, don't be shy: post below and tell us what you think of MN. Happy posting!

CoffeeBeansAndCake · 13/06/2017 18:44

Hello from another long time lurker. Seems there's quite a few of us...

PerryStar · 13/06/2017 19:00

Hello, lurker here! Read most days, have posted occasionally Grin

4isplenty · 13/06/2017 19:29

Hello to one and all. Long time lurker. Never posted before so this popping my cherry.
And I have to say, this is much more thrilling than anything else that falls under that bracket 😬 😂
I have picked up alot of advice, whenever relevant to my circumstances, from all you ladies. So drinks are on me my beauties 😙 🥃

muddledsheep · 13/06/2017 20:50

Long term lurker here, very occasionally post - I'm mainly here for the Gin Grin

Teaformeplease · 13/06/2017 21:08

Ooo I'm getting a mug .
Chuffed! Grin

MeganBasden · 13/06/2017 21:10

I'll poke my head through the curtains and say hello.
I find it hard to think what to write, but am very happy hiding behind here.

Amaksy · 13/06/2017 21:25

Not a lurker but i want mugs!!

Someaddedsugar · 13/06/2017 21:30

Hello! Long time lurker and occasional poster! Nice to meet you all Smile

JustCallMeKate · 13/06/2017 21:32

I REALLY need a MN mug to have on my desk when parents come into my office. I've probably been THAT HT on a few threads I've read on here I'm lovely really Grin.

I do love a kids on flights thread especially when posters refuse to pre book seats!

TryingNotToWaddle · 13/06/2017 21:46

Hi everyone Grin

Every day lurker and occasional commenter here...

shuttheblinds · 13/06/2017 22:07

I will sneak out from behind the sofa and say hi to you all. I am loving what I see on MN but been too scared to start a post. Then I forgot my username and had to create another account so I feel new again! Mind you I hadn't been brave enough to post under that name either!

Anyway for someone who hasn't posted before I am rambling, so will just shut up now and offer you all Gin

paxillin · 13/06/2017 22:32

MNHQ, would it be a good idea to have a sticky to encourage posters to go to newbies corner to welcome new posters? I sometimes post, there are so many posters asking for advice and company who would surely find it in Chat, but don't dare post there?

Perhaps add a reminder to be nice and that newbies corner is REALLY not AIBU?

TellMeItsNotTrue · 14/06/2017 00:17

MN I'm not here for the mug, I think if I tried to add another mug my cupboards would go on strike with the mugs I already have!

If anyone has any questions I would be happy to try and help

Until then I will just hand around the pom bears, a classic MN snack Bear

Sid98 · 14/06/2017 01:28

Hello to everyone

paxillin · 14/06/2017 01:43

Sid98, spamming lots of threads is not a good start. You are on three of the threads I am on with your ad.

clown503 · 14/06/2017 09:36

Hello SmileI've been a lurker for a ridiculously long time, and an occasional poster recently. I think I'm still shiny and new!

TellMeItsNotTrue · 14/06/2017 11:00

One thing a lot of people don't realise when they start is that it's OK to swear, you dont have to say f* or the f word or whatever, just write fuck Smile

The D in DC/DP/DF etc is darling and then
C= child
S= son or sister
D= daughter
F= friend, father or fiancee
P= parents or partner
H= husband
W= wife
FIL / MIL / SIL / BIL = father/mother/sister/brother in law

OP is original poster who created the thread

DS1 and DD3 would be darling son 1 (first born) and darling daughter 3 (third born or third daughter born) not usually related to their age.
DS(7) and DD(5) would normally be how age is shown
That does vary by poster though, that is how the majority would write it but sometimes mixed up

LornaMumsnet · 14/06/2017 12:55

paxillin · 14/06/2017 13:52

LornaMumsnet could you clarify if you want not-new MNetters to visit newbies corner? I think it is nice to answer some of the threads, they often don't go beyond one or two responses and many remain unanswered.

OTOH, the whole idea is that it is for newbies only to feel comfortable posting, so I am never sure if we should...

LornaMumsnet · 14/06/2017 14:05

Hey paxillin,

Thanks so much for flagging.

We'd be delighted for not-new Mumsnetters to visit newbies corner, say hello to the newbies and help people settle in!

paxillin · 14/06/2017 14:42

Thank you, LornaMumsnet. I will continue to pop in sometimes then.

Asmoto · 14/06/2017 16:42

shuttheblinds (and any other lurkers) There's no need to fear you are rambling too much on MN - long, detailed posts are quite at home here Grin. If you are seeking advice especially, the more info you can give (within your comfort zone and without compromising anonymity of course) the better people are able to advise. There's so much experience on here - in all kind of professional fields as well as personal experience - I doubt there is any problem MNetters can't help with.

shuttheblinds · 14/06/2017 18:41

Brilliant and thank you Asmoto. I should fit in just fine then Grin

And I have won a mug! Thank you Mumsnet, what a lovely start to my posting Smile

misscockerspaniel · 14/06/2017 19:10

Hello to one and all Smile
