Actually, that's not that representative. My exam writing is usually more like this horrorshow. And a big You Must Actually Be A Teacher medal if you can read it.

What's everyone's favourite type of ink? I like Cross, but the cartridge ink rather than bottle - the bottled just isn't as nice :( Sometimes I treat myself to cartridges. This last year I've also been using some disposable fountain pens when I've been out of the house, which are surprisingly good. For everyday scribbling I use Pentel Energel-X pens - I used to like Uniball Eye but they don't cope well with cheap paper :(

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 19:24

And sometimes of course you just want a good old-fashioned BIC biro!

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 19:25

Oops… sorry Blush

bubblesbubbles · 08/07/2017 19:28

thats your messy writing Shock That's miles neater then my neat attemps Grin

I was actually looking at the Leuchtturm last night when I was considering one to order, but I love moleskines far too much to switch, I have so many different designs of theirs.

I was once given a monte blanc (sp?) fountain pen as a gift and I've only used it once or twice because I can't write with fountain pens with my grip so I use crappy biros! I have a parker mechanical pencil as my fancy writing device Grin

FaithAgain · 08/07/2017 19:32

I like gel pens best. Mine is a scrawl even at best. Apparently it's down to me being cross-lateral (so said the ed psych who assessed me for dyslexia). I am better with chunky pens, otherwise I tend to squash my letters and for example, lose the top of the 'e'.

BertieBotts · 08/07/2017 19:36

Erm yeah that's not messy writing Grin

I can't be bothered with getting my phone but really, mine is truly awful.

I like felt tips. And those German pens which are orange with the white stripes and coloured lids, fineliners. Those are my favourite.

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 19:42

Oooh let's talk mechanical pencils! I got my dad a Lamy Spirit a couple of years ago; gorgeous slim little thing. So slim he lost it, unfortunately :(

I have several dozen disposable Bic mechanical pencils (I say disposable, but they come with extra leads and everything) and a fair few Papermate ones, including their non-stop (i.e. twisty end) ones. All 0.7mm. And those cute giant-pencil-looking 1.3mm Papermates. And just picked up a Bic 4 Colour where one of the inks has been replaced with a mechanical pencil, which is so cool. As you can see, with mechanical pencils I lean towards the extremely cheap and cheerful - I don't even stretch to a Rotring Tikky Grin but I use them almost entirely outside the house so there's no point getting a nice one.

My fancy writing device is a Cross Century II I was given when I was a teenager. Probably I'd grown out of the carving-my-own-quill-pens-out-of-crow-feathers stage by that time, but my love of stationery clearly remained…

riobruins · 08/07/2017 19:46

Your writing is glorious. Mine is truly something else. I write upside down if I need to read it, writing neatly the write way up is too difficult, for some reason it is significantly easier upside down.

As for pens I like papermate ink joy, the kind of chunky circular pens, and only ever in different colours.

bubblesbubbles · 08/07/2017 19:47

For pencils, I have a japanese one, where instead of pressing the thing at the top for the lead to come out, you shake it and thats what makes the lead come out Shock thats a cool cheap and cheerful one.

You used to make your own quill pens? Thats epic!!

riobruins · 08/07/2017 19:47

I can't cope with pencils, they made an awful noise.

Polter · 08/07/2017 19:48

That's beautiful writing ratty but takes too much effort to read for me!

I usually write with cheaply ballpoint pens with integral silicon grip, z-grip and papermate do some nice ones. I have to change my grip a lot as my hands hurt if I have a fixed grip so the silicon bit helps a lot. I quite like writing with Sharpies.

Polter · 08/07/2017 19:50

Yes yes. Inkjoy in all the colours Smile

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 19:51

Like these Bertie?

BTW this is my old pen grip (I didn't have the fine motor control to hold the pen "properly" when I was a child) and my new pen grip (which I spent hours and hours working on last summer - I do usually manage to maintain it).

I have just remembered that I have several full pencil cases of pens...

My Filofax inserts arrived.

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 19:53

I used to love Papermate Inkjoy and also had All The Colours Grin (I still have a few hanging around) but if you're a fan, please consider the Pentel EnerGel-X - you may never go back Grin

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 19:54

Oh yes I've fancied one of those shake-to-get-the-lead-out pencils for ages! Maybe I should buy one…

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 20:00

Crow feathers are shit for making quill pens from, BTW Grin but they're what I had access to.

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 20:01

And yy to subtly (or not-so-subtly) changing grip frequently - even better to swap pens every few paragraphs.

Polter · 08/07/2017 20:03

Look Grin

Beautiful!

Every Christmas for the last ten years, I've scoured the internet trying to find refill paper for a small slim leather filofax-type organiser that my mum inherited, which was, abiding to the gold embossed writing in the civet, from an independent stationers' shop in the North, and is completely nonstandard in every way.

autisticrat · 08/07/2017 20:16

*according to the gold embossed writing on the cover

MrsNutella · 08/07/2017 20:18

Autis is there a name for that organiser?

I'm loving my old Parker roller ink pens. They've long been a favourite. But my new colour pens are tombow brush pens. They are good fun. Our flight is now over an hour delayed.... today is looooooon

riobruins · 08/07/2017 20:23

My handwriting. The top is my neat writing, but that lasts at most a third of the page, the second is my upside down much more readable and the bottom is my usual from cooking something, if I'm writing of the top of my head it's usually worse.
I've been told my writing has character. You tell where I've forgotten how to write a word, and I think I've forgotten most of the punctuation. I've found the inkjoynpens make my writing more readable than other pens.

I'm really fussy with pens, I can't do gel pens, as I can hear them and quite a lot of other pens I can too. I can't decide whether this is just me or not as no one else seems to complain about it.

Polter · 08/07/2017 20:23

I can't use gel pens at all, but ds likes Pentel Wow which I buy by the box as he gets through them quickly.

I quite like the back sticker 'Buz' but need something to cover the Body Glove one I think.
