Anyone else noticed the increase in anti-Muslim hate speech online?

Is it just me or has there been a significant increase in recent days? which Elon Musk is also adding fuel to the fire to.

I don't really venture much on X (formerly twitter) but my DH was showing me some of the things said on there and I was quite shocked. I always knew Andrew Tate was a misogynistic hateful person and he has also joined the bandwagon now.

Hoping everyone is keeping well and safe.

I've seen a definite increase in both hate speech and general negativity towards Muslims. People seem comfortable to say really unpleasant things to and about Muslims without any actual challenge or regard for how that makes ordinary people feel. I feel worried for my DH and my DC at the moment.

Probably also a good reminder why I don't go on twitter. It seems dangerous for one person (Elon) to have this much power and control of social media.

They certainly are, I don’t dare to comment. They have no issue with lumping all Muslims and anyone who might look Muslim together but absolutely hate being reminded that their views are the same as the EDLs

It's quite frightening. I dare not comment either but I had a peek. If it wasn't bad enough with the hate for minorities on mumsnet, we had that idiot Elon doing the Nazi salute! The world as we know it is starting to change and it doesn't feel very safe.

Article on how anti-Muslim hate is at a record level in the UK. At a time when Muslims and other minority groups are experiencing significant levels of hate incidents, I think it's very sad that so much goes unaddressed on a parenting forum...

Certain usernames pop up so many times on threads about islam. So much hate.

It's hard not to conclude Islamophobia is supported by the site when such things are defended and left to stand and cause harm to posters. I suspect it would not be allowed to stand if it were about other faiths or even other social issues - not with the posting the way it is.

Ugh that thread is vile. How can they not see the absolute blatant Islamophobia in their posts and then say it's not. I've not read all the pages yet but I don't think I really want to either.

They’re still going. The thread is practically dead now but they’re finding ways to keep it going.

It’s actually really sad how many people on here hate or dislike Islam and the excuses they find to justify it. It can make it feel like a really unwelcoming place. And MN’s reluctance to take down obviously offensive posts doesn’t help either.

It really feels like a lot of people on here are doesn't it @PotaytoPotahhto. Not all obviously but a lot.

No not really in person it has pretty much been the same since 9/11 and my experince has been the same. Lots of verbal abuse and threats of violence now and then.
