Regardless as to what happened to cause the physical restraint of these boys, it is clear that the force used was immeasurably beyond proportional. I really hope that the officers concerned get sacked and a a custodial sentence.
We always have issues in UK ports and airports and this certainly doesn't ease my concerns.

As long as you don't start fights at airports or attack officers you'll be fine??

I'm not Muslim. Racism is absolutely everywhere.

Statement from GMP:

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 25/07/2024 12:46

@themadhat I know the context. I know police officers were assaulted, one female police officer having a broken nose. The context is irrelevant at the point of the kicking because there was no assault taking place. It was already over, the man was lying face down on the ground , not moving. He was not a threat, he wasn't trying to escape, he wasn't assaulting anyone . That's when he got kicked in the head twice. Police officers don't get to decide after the fact who deserves a good kicking or not and they definitely shouldn't be the ones administering the kicking.

Zimunya · 25/07/2024 12:57

Sorry - can't seem to get statement to post. Here is a precis:

Greater Manchester Police said it understood the “deep concerns" that had been "widely raised".
The footage sparked a protest outside Rochdale police station on Wednesday night, with hundreds of people gathered, and chants of "shame on you" heard.
In the build-up to the incident shown in the clip, a police spokesman said that firearms officers had been punched to the ground after trying to make an arrest following a fight in the airport.
There was a "clear risk" their weapons could be taken from them, the police spokesman said, adding all three had been taken to hospital, one with a broken nose.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of assault and affray.

Any punch, kick, tasering, restraining etc would be completely justified during that assault, not after , when he was laying on the ground.

Zimunya · 25/07/2024 13:36

@ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat - totally agree.

themadhat · 25/07/2024 12:02

Your seeing a video completely out of context! Yes it was extreme but maybe don't cause trouble and assault women in the first place.

What context excuses kicking and stamping someone’s head when they have ALREADY BEEN TASERED and not capable of any further “trouble”?

The simple answer is none, but there will, of course be people who think otherwise, and will attempt to try, and justify this officer's deplorable actions.

Stormwalker · 25/07/2024 17:37

Surely 2 women were assaulted the first one elderly when someone ran a trolley into her. Not sure why it went from that to a head kikicking and a broken nose but regardless once someone is on the floor no one should be stamping on them.

Parkingt111 · 25/07/2024 21:20

I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if this isn't the first time that police officer used unnecessary excessive force.

WafflesOrIceCream · 25/07/2024 22:54

Bloody disgusting behaviour from that officer!!
He should be sacked!

No one in their right mind would attack the police first unless they were provoked!

The young men's mother was pushed, I would have attacked someone if they had done that to my mother.

Why on earth do the police think they have all the power to do what they want? They don't!!

Another thing, judging by the protests, this matter will not be laid to rest until justice is served.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 25/07/2024 23:31

Plenty of people do.

SilverCatStripes · 25/07/2024 23:42

So it’s ok for you to attack someone physically if you feel circumstances warrant it. But it’s not ok for other people to do that?

You would physically attack someone in an airport? For pushing your mother? Jesus.

You think the police don't have the right to attack someone?

But you think you have the right to attack someone for pushing your mother?

So then, by that train of thought, you believe that person had the right to push your mother if you think violence is acceptable?
But not for the police...?
Ok 😒

I think most people who attack the police AREN'T in their right minds!

Scirocco · 26/07/2024 20:27

The use of force in situations must, as per training, be the minimum needed to de-escalate a situation and only when no non-violent alternative is possible, and should be consistent with approved techniques. What is on that video does not meet those standards at all.

The man against whom the force is directed is lying on the floor, presenting no immediate risk of further aggression. The force used involved actions expressly advised against due to the potential consequences, and reflects a loss of control or discipline. Whatever may or may not have happened before that moment is irrelevant to the requirement for the officer to act in accordance with professional standards in that moment. Which the officer did not do.

rwalker · 26/07/2024 20:34

What had lead up to this
the problem is at airports are on high alert for security reasons and use exceptional force to gain control of the situation

Walkden · 26/07/2024 20:35

Bo doubt the officer involved will face criminal charges and rightly so.

Let's also hope that the individuals who assaulted officers as part of the incident are also charged with similar urgency.

A fight broke out between (3?!) men. The brothers' mum complained to them a male passenger mistreated her on the flight , then pointed him out to the men , they confronted him and a fight ensued. Police were called to deal with the fight. Another fight broke between the police officers and some(all ?!) of the men , in which 3 police officers were hurt. Then this incident happened.

4 men were taken to the police station immediately after the incident and charged with various things. Media at the time said all released on bail. No idea what the situation is now

They were definitely promptly charged though. A lot quicker than the police officer in fact.

The video of what lead up to this is out now
Showing the attack on the police
