i have to say george michael was amazing and so has pink, josh groban and o.m.d i've seen some amazing acts but christina aguilara was completely pathetic. she was over an hour late didnt dance, couldnt walk the stage without help from her dancers and was completely half assed

UnquietDad - It was 1999 i think

kittya · 14/08/2010 00:15

someone mentioned the Charlatons, they are playing in LA when Im there I might go.

Best for me: George Michael is always great to see live, Culture Club back in the day, David Bowie many times and Squeeze were fantastic live. I think they are touring again this year. Too many to name really.

Worse for me were New Order, I just too love them and was so disappointed when I did see them. Boring.

kittya · 14/08/2010 00:20

Oh, I forgot about Elvis Costello!! always good.

Another not so great gig, the Beautiful South reformed without the main man. No more than a tribute act.

sharbie · 14/08/2010 00:26

I agree with NO kittya they were rubbish.

kittya · 14/08/2010 00:28

where did you see them? it just wasnt the same. Surprised they are still going.

sharbie · 14/08/2010 00:32

they aren't anymore.i saw them in 1984 in Southampton.they are really hit and miss live apparently - i didn't bother again.
the sound was terrible, they didn't really bother too much with the performance and the audience weren't impressed.
still one of my fave bands tho so very disappointing at the time.

kittya · 14/08/2010 00:36

Oh, I thought you meant from my last post!!

If you are talking 1984 then I assume you mean New Order, about the same time as me. It was dire. I still listen to their albums on my ipod and they were fantastic.

bluejeans · 14/08/2010 00:41

Best - probably Pretenders last year - small venue, fab! Also Depeche Mode in 1986, Black Celebration Tour, don't ever remember being as excited as when the lights dimmed and everyone started screaming....

Worst - prob the Lightning Seeds in about 1994 - didn't come onstage till 11pm and no chat/stage presence. V near the front and could read the set list which spoilt it a bit. Cast were the support (before they were well known) and much, much better

kittya · 14/08/2010 00:43

God, I think I was at that one as well!! Paul Weller around the same year was fantastic. Was.

upahill · 15/08/2010 10:56

I've just remembered another really bad gig.

Elastica at the Hacienda.

Crap crap and more crap!!!

couldeatawholeone · 15/08/2010 11:36

Best

Eels @ the Forum a few years back

Keith Jarrett @ RFH

David Byrne @ RFH

Jim White - I think Islington, but before he was happy, anyway

Devon Sproule @ Luminaire, Kilburn

Bellowhead

ACDC aeons ago (with Bon Scott)

But best ever probably has to be the Forest of No Return - Hal Wilner Disney tribute night, during Jarvis Cocker's Meltdown, summer 2007 with Grace Jones, Pete Docherty, Nick Cave, Beth Orton, Jarvis C, David Thomas, Shane MacGowan & er lots of other folk too.

Worst

The Police. In the early 80s. Dull dull dull dull

Scariest?

Stiff Little Fingers around the same time, when it was still - apparently - acceptable for bouncers to stub their cigarettes out on punters

Loudest?

Motorhead, around the same time.

northernmonkey · 15/08/2010 11:58

Best by far Jamie Cullum at the Olimpia stadium Paris this year. That guy really knows how to pull a crowd. Just a shame the english crowds dont get into the spirit of things :(

The worst had to be Duffy at Glastonbury 08. oh and that american rapper who went down like a lead balloon but the papers reported it was a hit Hmm they should have been there

northernmonkey · 15/08/2010 12:00

Oh and the levellers back in 95 in Brid. Smallish venue but my god what a night. They are also an amaxing live band.

Still got to say Jamie Cullum is my top live act so far though :)

DinahRod · 15/08/2010 12:16

Best:

Madonna
Michael Jackson
Bon Jovi
Bruce Springsteen
REM
The Who
Nirvana
Wham

Worst:

U2 they couldn't hold the crowd so lots of fights broke out...or is that just typical of a U2 concert?
Whitney Houston - she was booed

dawnb14 · 15/08/2010 13:35

Best - Erasure at Leeds Town and Country, Take That, this time and last around!
Worst - Kylie..she had no umpf!

Naetha · 15/08/2010 13:57

Best - Iron Maiden by a country mile. Seen them 3 times now and the atmosphere has been electrifying every time. Machine Head also very very good - bring ear plugs though Wink

Worst - My Chemical Romance - just boring. Marilyn Manson at Download a couple of years ago was obviously not bothered, and totally pants.

Best worst act - Cradle of Filth. Came on at Ozzfest in 2001 and immediately it started to piss it down with thunder and lightning and all sorts. As soon as their (absolutely horrendous) set finished, the sun came out.

RonansMummy · 15/08/2010 14:00

The Who are amazing live, so are the flaming lips and The Cat Empire (an australian band my friend found on his gap year)

The sugababes were pretty rubbish when i saw them, they were looked like a group of girls doing karaoke on a night out!

Lavitabellissima · 15/08/2010 14:01

Worst - Whitney, so very, very sad, she was an absolute looper and was sooo out of tune and didn't even sing for most of it!

EsmeWeatherwax · 15/08/2010 14:07

Rammstein, Robbie Williams the best. Worst, by a country mile, was Transvision Vamp back in the 80's. We lasted 10 minutes before sloping off to the pub. Folloed by Evanesance. It really was a blessing they only played for 40 minutes, cos boy, they were shite!

curlywurlycremeegg · 15/08/2010 14:12

Best, lots but Manic Strret Preachers at The Astoria Dec 1994 has to top the pile, went to all three nights and it was fucking amazing.

Worst: Stone Roses at Spike Island, dire, even worse than the usually were live.

Naetha · 15/08/2010 14:20

God yes Evanescence were absolute pants.

I am so curious as to why DinahRods post was deleted!!!

makeupmummy · 16/08/2010 14:18

Oo, I remember the Black Celebration tour too! Saw Echo & the Bunnymen way back: good. Also saw them couple years ago at a festival, bad!
Favourites: Green Day,TITP; Babyshambles,Glasgow; Primal Scream; Ben Taylor. Also, bizarrely, Scouting for Girls at Belladrum Tartan Festival in tent few years ago - they were great; "will be play another song,or our hit agin?!". Pigeon Detectives also there and were great, and afternoon of red wine and good music in tent while rain lahed outside. Perfect! Going to see the National in November so hope can add them..

bluejeans · 16/08/2010 22:58

makeupmummy sounds as if you're in Scotland too - did you see the Black Celebration tour at the SECC by any chance?
