Omnishambles- you could always change your mind and take her, if you think it'd be possible- you don't ned a ticket for under 13's.

My things to pack list is getting longer by the day, but I think I've remembered everything I need now. My main worry now is making sure DS is going to be warm enough at night. I'm beginning to remember how cold sleeping in a tent can be.

lowrib · 07/06/2010 01:33

La la la la I can't hear you.

lowrib · 07/06/2010 01:33

Ooops!

but I'm sure you got the message

omnishambles · 07/06/2010 07:07

No I know, but shes just at the wrong toddling age and if I take her than I cantr justify not taking the eldest and hes in school and would have to get them all down there by train/bus and back the same way and it would be a nightmare...

Am going to take them both to a smaller festival next year I think.

Anathema - If you're going by car then you can take a duvet - although I remember reading that its the underneath that counts not whats on top iyswim.

Sorry Lowrib - I was like that last year, and the year before...

Omni- thali sounds good, no chapatis etc for him but am sure that sort of stuff will be fine. He is very new to GF diet so he keeps slipping up but the reaction of his body every time he does means its longer and longer between incidents! I just need to relax about it I think, as long as we take loads of snacks he won't starve!

LyraSilvertongue · 08/06/2010 16:42

I wish I was going. There are dozens of bands I want to see

AnathemaDevice · 09/06/2010 15:28

So where will we all be in exactly 2 weeks time? Hopefully we'll have the tent up, and I'll either be at the Brothers Bar in West Holts (always my first port of call ) or up at the Stone Circle, admiring the view.

I imagine I'll be wearing a newly purchased hat- it's become Glastonbury tradition that we all by a silly hat on the first day. Does anyone else have Glasto tradititons?

omnishambles · 09/06/2010 15:53

God am not sure I will be on site yet - hopefully though, fingers crossed.

Glasto traditions? Trying to find the lady with the truffles in the stone circle on the first day - thats a VERY important tradition

CaptainWinky · 09/06/2010 18:02

Hopefully firing up the barbecue!

omnishambles · 11/06/2010 11:27

Have any of you got preschoolers? Andy from Cbeebies is apparently headlining the kids field...

OP posts:
queenrollo · 15/06/2010 19:14

ah here you all are!

We're heading off on Sunday for a pre-fest camping trip and then heading onto site on Weds.

Mostly looking forward to seeing Frank Turner, Danny and The Champions of The World, New Model Army and the Levellers.

Fancy dress - there's a big group of us and we always do fancy dress on the Thursday evening. I'm doing Bo-Peep goes to Moulin Rouge this year so if you see a small lady in a green corset and skirt with unfeasibly large net underskirt carrying a shepherds crook chances are it'll be me. We'll be meeting in the Jazz-world field at about 5.30 if anyone fancies coming along to point and laugh at me

CaptainWinky - head up towards the greenfields/healing area of the site for better food options for your other half. They tend to be more accommodating to special dietary needs up there (and much better value for money i've always found)

Omnishambles - take the kids to Shambala. It's like a mini-glasto as far as the vibe is concerned and the most family friendly festival i've ever been to. Taking my boy for the third time this year.

I really need to think about starting packing for this. 3 day holiday tacked on the front means i need to think about it a bit more carefully this year.

omnishambles · 15/06/2010 20:14

Thanks for that tip queenrollo - will check it out. Will also keep my eyes peeled for you and your crook.

We will be in shangri-la on sat night in our 40s clothes (dh in uniform ) and then onto West Holts for George Clinton.

Where are you camping beforehand?

AnathemaDevice · 15/06/2010 22:06

In case you're not all excited enough...

Festival preparations, from the air

I'm now panicking about there not being enough room in family camping when we get there, but apart from that I don't think it's possible for me to get any more excited. This time next week we'll be packed and ready to go...

queenrollo · 15/06/2010 22:42

omni we're having a few days near Wookey Hole, camping with friends who usually do the festival but aren't going this year.

We have army uniforms too but I don't think we'll have room to pack them (and can't be bothered to carry them in). I keep saying to DP that i am in danger of having more fancy dress than normal clothes!
Not planning on seeing George Clinton as we saw him at Bestival a couple of years back. I did enjoy it, so if there's nothing else we fancy we'll probably head over for it.

anathema - we have friends who live in Pilton and he has posted some photos from on site over the last few weeks and it's very exciting.

A few of us seem to be going to Frank Turner. Should we email him and ask him to give a shout out for the mnetters?

omnishambles · 15/06/2010 22:48

Am also going to try and see seth lakeman in the croissant neuf on fri afternoon but it will be rammed.

Has anyone else looked at the clashfinder and though friday was jammed packed but the other days not so much? It would be the year I'm finally not working it there's not much on I want to see...mind you I normally get stuck in some strange shangri la type place and dont see any bands anyway.

I have to say tho I am excited because I'm not working I feel a bit off about it -normally we are really early onsite before everyones there - its a bit odd being a punter...

God I hope the weathers good [does sun dance]

OP posts:
queenrollo · 15/06/2010 22:53

reports from friends in Pilton say their local weather man has predicted the current dry and warm weather is to stay for the duration of the festival so fingers crossed!

omni what work do you usually do there? never fancied working it myself but then until the last couple of years it has been my one holiday (and i worked 7 days a week nearly all year so time off was precious)

I had a quick look at clashfinder and there's not much i want to see but yes.....it's all on at the same times. DP wants to see Gang Of Four. I plan on spending more time in the green/healing fields this year and down in Shangri-la too. Fat Drunk Stupid punk karaoke is a must!

omnishambles · 16/06/2010 10:08

I have done litter picking in the past but usually stewarding with oxfam which is fine with good perks apart from the one overnight shift which is bad - especially in the driving rain.

OP posts:
biglips · 16/06/2010 10:10

i cant believe i went 11 years ago!!!!! as just realised now!

AnathemaDevice · 16/06/2010 19:34

Biglips- The first time I went was 11 years ago. I'm sure I'm not old enough for it to be that long ago!

I've had a look at the clashfinder, but I'm not making any concrete plans to see anyone, as it'll all depend on if I get stuck in the Kids field with DS all weekend! (I hope not, as this will probably be the only year he'll be portable/pliable enough to cart around without too many complaints)

I'm a bit annoyed that Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip start as Stevie Wonder is finishing- there's no way I'll be able to get from the Pyramid to the Queen's Head in time to see much of them.

queenrollo · 16/06/2010 19:37

tonight we got the tents out and checked them. The ground sheet on one had been nibbled a bit by mice but apart from that they are ok.

normally we take the camper-van too but decided not to bother this year. the walk is too far from the campervan fields to do several times daily and we ended up just camping inside anyway. Can't justify £75 for glorified parking.

omnishambles · 16/06/2010 19:44

I have sadly made a list Queenrollo - I havent got round to actually checking anything off though - for example dh has no idea where his wellies are [sigh]

The first year I went was 1994 I think

OP posts:
GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 16/06/2010 19:46

I hope you all have a wonderful time. My last time was 19 years ago ( I think)!!! Makes me feel very old. There weren't mobile phones or owt new fangled things like that in my day

I got very stoned on some fudge, iirc, and couldn't work the stall I was meant to be looking after.

Happy days

omnishambles · 16/06/2010 20:03

ah yes the fudge Ghost - I remember a 2 hour conversation on whether a stall was a stall or a stage and what the difference was between them ('but like isnt all the music for sale man' etc ) - that confusion probably would have stopped me working the stall as well...

poshsinglemum · 17/06/2010 21:23

OMG- I got my ticket on Monday and I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited!
I'm not taking dd so I can get drunk and dance the night away-yipee!!

auberginesrus · 17/06/2010 22:03

Yay a Glasto thread!

We are going without DCs for the first time since 2002 and I am sooo excited

Its our 10th wedding anniversary today and we had our honeymoon at Glasto.

omnishambles sounds like our DCs are similar ages, will also be the longest I have left DS2 (he is 2). Last year we took him, and took DS1 out of school, was lovely but hard work, and I'm looking forward to being able to get up and leave the tent in under 2 hours

Where is everyone camping? We have been on the family field for so long the area we used to camp in is now a stage
