We've got a horrible horrible one with Dame Edna narrating, and I loathe it.
When I was a child we had a serious received pronunciation kind of person narrating, and I have no idea who it was - does anyone know? I think it must have been the standard recording listened to in the 1980s, as I heard the same recording at two different schools (music classes...)
Thank you!

Oh crumbs, I've got a good one but don't know where it is - I think its Richard Baker, and it also has Young Musicians Guide to the Orchestra on it as a bonus.

I got it for DDs 3rd birthday and have one of those perfect memories of us listening to it after her party dancing about being birdie and the cat and the wolf

Thank you! Richard Baker - is it http://www.amazon.co.uk/Peter-Wolf-Children-Remaster-morning/dp/B001IN1LME/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dmus ic&qid=1263638025&sr=8-1 this ? I can't find it on CD, and we don't have an MP3 player... Seems to be from 1971 so it could well be the right one...

Other options (according to Wikipedia) are
Ralph Richardson
John Gielgud (2 versions)
Sean Connery
Peter Ustinov
David Bowie

There are loads of options but how can I work out which is the 'right' one - any ideas?!
