Away Away you ugly witch
Go far away and let me be
I never will be your lover so true
and I wish I was out of your company!

daftpunk · 03/01/2010 23:27

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2010 23:33

I am stretched on your grave
and I'll lie here forever
If your hands were in mine
I'd make sure they would not sever.

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 03/01/2010 23:34

StarlightWonderStarlight I love that song

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2010 23:37

I think it's the saddest song I know, but I still love it.

LivingLaVidaLurker2 · 03/01/2010 23:46

From Westwood to Hollywood
The one thing that's understood
Is that you can't buy time, but you can sell your soul
And the closet thing to heaven is to rock and roll

Aztec Camera - Somewhere In My Heart

The temptation
To take the precious things we love apart
To see how they work
Must be resisted
'cause they never fit together again.

Billy Bragg - Must I Paint You A Picture?

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2010 23:52

I also like:

'Ding Dong; The Wicked Witch is dead!'

fruitstick · 03/01/2010 23:58

I don't believe in an interventionist God
But I know darling that you do.
So if I did I would kneel down and ask him
Not to intervene when it came to you.
Not to touch a hair on your head, to leave you as you are
And if he felt he had to direct you
Then direct you Into My Arms

"You dont care what you look like,
The world is falling around you,
You just have to see her,
You know that she'll break you in two"
-Sometime Around Midnight, The Airborne Toxic Event

How weird, I was listening to songs and thinking of starting a thread like this last night. I must have subconsciously seen it in active convos.

Anyway. This quite lovely but also sad song by Karine Polwart:

Hey Daisy darling, don't spread your arms so wide
Why don't you keep a little something inside?
I know you think that hands were made for pulling us through
But there are people in this world who don't think like you do

And also my absolute favourite song, this gave me shivers up my spine when I first listened to it properly. Sting, I was Brought to my senses:

I walked out this morning,
It was like a veil had been removed from before my eyes
For the first time I saw the work of heaven
And the line where the hills had been married to the sky
And all around me every blade of singing grass
Was calling out your name and that our love would always last
And inside every turning leaf is the pattern of an older tree
The shape of our future, the shape of all our history
And out of the confusion where the river meets the sea
Came things I'd never seen, things I'd never seen.

StanleyFletcher · 04/01/2010 01:40

Cocolepew - Witchita Lineman EXACTLY the what I was going to write. LOVE that line.

CupOChristmasCheerfulYank · 04/01/2010 01:48

You know/You got a willin slave/But you just like to play the thought that you might misbehave/But til you do I'm tellin you stop visiting my grave/And let me rest in peace

Anyone, anyone?

BEAUTlFUL · 04/01/2010 09:54

I love that Witchita Lineman line too, but it's this:

And I need you more than want you,
And I want you for all time

He doesn't say "love". Typical bloody man.

ChickensHaveNoTinsel · 04/01/2010 13:27

Ah, 'Distant Sun'. Amazing song.

'And I'm lying on a table
Washed out in a flood
Like a Christian fearing vengeance
From above

I don't pretend to know what you want
But I offer love'

REM 'Country Feedback'

'It's crazy what you could have had'

It's not so much what he says, it's the sadness in his voice when he says it

And, of course:

'So let yourself go
Everybody cries
Everybody hurts
Sometimes'

ChickensHaveNoTinsel · 04/01/2010 13:28

Ah ha! Spike singing in 'Once More With Feeling'! I LOVE Buffy

CupOChristmasCheerfulYank · 04/01/2010 16:01

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY chicken! I love Spike.

Iklboo · 04/01/2010 16:05

He said "Bill I believe this is killing me"
As the smile ran away from his face

Piano Man - Billy Joel

Hot dog, jumping frog
Alberquerque

King of Rock n Roll - Prefab Sprout

CupOChristmasCheerfulYank · 04/01/2010 16:30

"For I'm sure that I could be a movie star/If I could get outta this place"

snigger · 04/01/2010 19:35

Oh, and

The kids are playing up, downstairs.

Madness

fruitstick · 04/01/2010 22:19

la la laa la la laaaaaaa, la laa la la laaaaaaa
La Laaaaaaaaa

CupOChristmasCheerfulYank · 05/01/2010 02:34

Well, maybe there's a God above/But all I ever learned from love/Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you/It's not a cry you can hear at night/It's not somebody who's seen the light/It's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah

CarmenTinselPalmTreesSanDiego · 05/01/2010 03:38

Lucky that my breasts are small and humble so you don't confuse them with mountains.

Oh I love R.E.M. and Billy Joel.

Has anyone heard of I Am Kloot? They have really good, interesting lyrics, and beautiful guitar. E.g. -

Along the Avenue of Hope
Footsteps falter, fingers grope
And the days stretch out beneath the sun
No-one's born, and no-one dies,
No-one loves, so no-one cries,
And they wait and see just what they will become.
-Avenue of Hope

And so what is love, and who am I
To dare to pull the stars from your favourite sky?
-From Your Favourite Sky

Twisted on destiny
Fate and three wishes
We fuck and we fight
Someone else does the dishes
-Twist

Hey, could you stand another drink?
I'm better when I don't think
Seems to get me through
Well, do you want to spin a little lie
Like we had a good time
Not that i need proof
-Proof

You won't stumble through tonight
Drowning in their laughter
-No Fear of Falling

Erm I will stop spamming with lyrics now.

I listen to too many unknown North American singer songwriters who write great tunes and write great songs

I haven't missed your shoulder for a while
My head feels better on the bathroom tiles

Chris Mills - Signal/Noise

Mills writes lyrics that get inside you and squish with your mind.

Hawksley Workman does it too 'There's nothing else as sweet as this. I waved so hard I broke my wrist'

I've been having a Snow Patrol fix and Gary Lightbody is also playing with my mind. Every thing on Eyes Open is stunning I can't boil it down But anyone who can write 'Chasing Cars' while 'sozzled' is a special person

God I could spend hours just doing this so I'll push off now before I inflict my whole record collection on you
