My ipod needs updating.

Maxwell has a new cd that has gotten good reviews.

He's not new, but hasn't put anything out in such a long time that many don't know him.

MIAonline · 06/09/2009 20:15

Mayer Hawthorne and Alice Russell

( I am reliably informed )

MIAonline · 06/09/2009 20:18

Oh and Raphael Saadiq

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 20:20

ooh maxwell was popular about 10 years ago wasn't he?

i'm off to see if i can find some samples online. thanks.

Yes, he was. He's not nearly so beautiful now, but supposedly he's made a good album.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 20:28

alice russell sounds good.
prefer women singers tbh.

Have you heard much of Nicole Willis and the soul investigators?

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings?

You have probably heard them, but thought it was worth a try. I love Nicole Willis.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 20:48

i've got some sharon jones and the dap kings but not nicole willis.

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 20:51

nicole willis is sounding a bit brand new heavies. it's not really doing it.

MIAonline · 06/09/2009 21:35

ooh, you are a tricky customer!

Naomi Shelton and the gospel queens

Cookin on 3 burners -soul messin is a good album

Shawn Lee - soul in the hole

Laura Vane and the viper tones

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 22:12

hmmm, maybe laura vane.

but NO FUNK and NO JAZZ and NO GOSPEL CHURCH ORGANS please

think alicia keys, angie stone, jill scott (but without all the talky bits)

fuck it, i'll just have to record an album myself if no-ones doing it.

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 22:16

gospel is fine, but not the organs.

OP posts:
MIAonline · 06/09/2009 22:20

I think the problem is that all the best stuff has been done already!

Now if we were comparing what we like already, from what you have listed, I am sure there would be a good cross over, but new stuff is always harder to recommend and harder to like.

One last go though...

The most recent 'Hill St. Soul' album.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 22:25

oooh, good voice. we might be onto something here.

At last! I can go to bed happy now

Will have a think and come back tomorrow if I think of anything.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 22:31

happy now.
thankyou

nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 22:38

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 22:45

just listened to 'don't stay' on her myspace.
very good.

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 22:49

ok, when you get back, can i have your (or your reliably informed) opinions on chrisette michele and laura izibor.

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 06/09/2009 23:31

mrsMH, hoping this thread catches your eye although i can see you're a bit busy.

This is such a racist thread. I'm reporting you, googlebutter, you disingenuous Harlem-folk-hating anti-Afro platesmashing non-inbreed!

(err, it was Harlem you went to, right?)

Nighty.

MrsMerryHenry · 06/09/2009 23:58

Oh, laura izibor - yeah, nice, nothing spesh, but nice music and a lovely girl. Interesting ethnic background, too! (ROFL ROFL ROFL)

Maybe you'd like Concha Buika - soul mixed with flamenco.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 07/09/2009 08:04

ahem, the bronx, near the zoo

you're not black enough for my thread mrsMH. be off with you.

MrsMerryHenry · 07/09/2009 17:29
