Who is up and coming on the soul music scene?

My ipod needs updating.

Who's new?

My informer is much better at knowing the up and coming artists than me plus it takes me a while to remember the name of someone new I like!

Really like Chrisette Michele, though her voice is better than a lot of her songs on 1st listen. Really liked the 'what you do' feat Ne-Yo, though from what you have said, I should imagine it is your least favourite

Am really not sure about Laura izibor seemed a bit middle of the road, but may be a grower.

Good soul vocalists really struggle with their songs and all seem to verge on pop rather than soul at times. Maybe you are right, you will just have to create your own.

for dragonbutter

Btw, why have you ditched the Smasher name?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 09/09/2009 17:10

fancied a change.
fancied corrupting a few newbies.

oooh, you're a derrrty gerrrlll!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 09/09/2009 17:33

i wish i'd actually bought some new music on sunday. i've been off work with a cold and could have really enjoyed listening to it.
it would have drowned out the sounds of screaming irritable children.

Jazmine Sullivan ... Raphael Saadiq

MrsMerryHenry · 09/09/2009 17:37

Have you tried spotify, dragon? Music's free (if you don't mind listening to a few ads from time to time). It's brilliant for discovering new artists.

Still coldy?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 09/09/2009 17:42

ooh jazmine sullivan has a great voice.

worn out. but probably well enough to go to work tomorrow. DS2 been off too, and he's going back whether he likes it or not.

you're a hard task master!

Sorry to hear you're feeling rough, though, that's no fun - especially when you're dealing with people all day.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 09/09/2009 20:58

yeah, bloody people. can't stand them.

OP posts:
MrsMerryHenry · 09/09/2009 21:00

Why don't you ask them all where they come from originally - and insist they trace their roots back 18 generations. I guarantee they'll scarper and leave you in peace to watch Loose Women.

MrsMerryHenry · 09/09/2009 21:01

just to be clear, I was actually mocking myself in that post!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 09/09/2009 21:07

how is that thread going anyway?

OP posts:
MrsMerryHenry · 09/09/2009 21:21

Oh, it calmed down and then I think it ground to a halt. However, like all controversial threads it threw up lots of interesting issues and thoughts which I hadn't considered before. I'm sure I could have phrased my OP better - I'll perhaps hesitate before clicking 'post' next time!

Actually I've been meaning to email you to ask more about what you said about your family history - or would you rather not talk about it?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 09/09/2009 21:26

i don't know much tbh. but there was some colonial postmaster general somewhere in there. western africa although possibly burma, i don't know really. and he died of syphilis.

what i need to do is get famous enough to be on 'who the fuck do you think you are' and let some bbc researcher do all the work while i get tearful in the library.

And be paid a pretty pound (or 50,000 of them) for your trouble - don't forget that!

Got to go - time to watch our DVD series.

Night.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 09/09/2009 21:32

ooh what you watching.
we vary between lost and spaced at the moment.
still haven't got telly organised.

MrsMerryHenry · 09/09/2009 21:34

I gave up on Lost. It was going nowhere and they were just taking the piss.

Battlestar Galactica, on the other hand, is outstanding. I highly recommend it.

We're now watching Alias.

Gotogo!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 10/09/2009 18:07

Yes the plotline can be a bit iffy, but i'm happy to go along with it as long as Sawyer keeps taking his shirt off.
Damn that boiler suit in the last season!

Alias is by the same people isn't it? Have been recommended it before.

OP posts:
MrsMerryHenry · 10/09/2009 21:07

Mmmm...Sawwwyerrrr. I don't normally go for blondes, but ooh-ooh-ooh!

Yes - Alias is JJ Abrams again. Bad Robot and all that. It came before Lost, and S1 is interesting but it's downfall is that it's very samey-samey throughout - same format used for every episode. But then you get to the very last ep and !!! - and then you're hooked.

Also I do rather like the fact that the female characters have such great roles and go round beating the crap out of the baddies.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 10/09/2009 21:22

get off, he's mine.
you do realise we've ruined this thread now.

OP posts:
MrsMerryHenry · 10/09/2009 21:28

Er, what was the thread about?

You can have him actually - I prefer Sayid.

The torturer thing is a minor detail and no impediment to lust.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 10/09/2009 21:34

no, he's mine too.
