What do you really detest?

UnquietDad · 27/12/2008 17:10

I've always liked the idea that, if you play country music backwards, the singer wakes up one evening to find his wife has come back to him, his dog has come back to life and his crops have all grown again.

Swedes · 27/12/2008 17:11

Acid Jazz

Thunderduck · 27/12/2008 17:13

Is it Scatman by Scatman John, you're thinking of UQD?

OP posts:
UnquietDad · 27/12/2008 17:14

JoolsToo · 27/12/2008 17:14

Thunderduck · 27/12/2008 17:14

mediocrebronze · 27/12/2008 17:19

UQD one of my friends wrote a song like that. you can guess the tune

Never woke up this morning
Never went to bed
Got no wife to leave me
got no dog to be dead
but I've got the bluuuuues for no apparent reason
I've got the blu-hu-hu-hu-huuues for no reason at all.

Cant remember the rest of the verses

UnquietDad · 27/12/2008 17:19

A little something which went in a Book Wot I Wrote, a few years ago - here it is reproduced for your delight. The song which should have been Christmas Number One this year...

UQD - you need to hear this version of Straight Outta Of Compton....]

disclaimer: do not listen in front of les enfants, but.....!!!

FunnyLittleFrog · 27/12/2008 17:31

BRILLIANT! You are a proper genius UnquietDad.

Myrrhcy · 27/12/2008 17:33

Love it UQD

NomDePlume · 27/12/2008 17:48

Hard dance music, deffo. The sort where you have to have taken 10 different types of drug to just be in the same room.

They used to call it 'Happy Hardcore', I think. Bloody awful.

AliceTheCamelHasGotTheHump · 27/12/2008 18:08

I really like country & western.

There. I said it.

Myrrhcy · 27/12/2008 18:14

Aceeeeeeeeeeeeed

I was too old for that clubbin it stuff when it came out (thank god). I prefer real discos [old fart]

base · 27/12/2008 18:23

Hip Hop / rap

I blame this music and the culture it promotes for the hoodies that roam our streets with their trousers round their ankles.

I know it isnt wholly to blame, but it is a big factor. So many youths these days want to be a 'gangsta'. Its not only the slang they use but the way they say it, like they have just walked out a ghetto.

I know every generation has its anti-establishment music (punk etc) but this 'gangsta' culture seems so much more destructive and intimidating than anything before.

apuppydaviesisforlife · 27/12/2008 18:27

lol i'll happily admit to loving ("alt") country - think bluesy, bluegrassy stuff. anyone with a high enough folk tolerance should be able to stomach something like lucinda williams :P

i've tried and failed with jazz, most types...

OrmIrian · 27/12/2008 18:28

I can't name any particular genre.
I hate across all classes

Single songs probably a few, but no particular type.

MadameOvary · 27/12/2008 18:29

Sorry to wake the sleeping monster UQD
Cleo Laine (sp?) and Johnny Dankworth = crimes against music.

beanieb · 27/12/2008 18:31

and what Penthesileia said about new 'classical', the stuff people buy their mums (poor mums) from asda.

Gary Crowley was on six music earlier doing a programme on Ska, made me realise how much I really hate it.

FriendNeedsHelp · 27/12/2008 18:36

I'm with Penthesileia.

A 100-strong choir singing Verdi's Requiem = yes.

Queen singing Bohemian Rhapsody = yes.

A 100-strong choir singing Bohemian Rhapsody = unlistenably awful.

FriendNeedsHelp · 27/12/2008 18:36

(Queen doing Verdi's Requiem on the other hand...)

daftpunk · 27/12/2008 19:06

lol dittany...thats exactly what my dh says!

i love indie...i love all music....you name it, i've got it on my ipod....(with the possible exception of status quo)

Thunderduck · 27/12/2008 19:08

I bought that Queen cd a year or so ago. It really is awful.
