The Cure were only pretend Goths...

Sisters of Mercy... now they were proper Goths.

CatIsSleepy · 12/08/2008 12:03

well PM I think that's why I liked 'em

PuppyMonkey · 12/08/2008 12:04

Me too, Cat!

Tatties · 12/08/2008 12:10

The Cure wasn't really a goth band. I wasn't into proper goth stuff either

DaDaDa · 12/08/2008 12:11

G'wan, you know you want to, suck in your cheeks!

Someone's going to get very upset about this Goth teasing any minute now.

Notyummy · 12/08/2008 12:12

Wayne Hussey was lead singer of The Mission. Yep, he was weird.

I liked the Cult in my youth...but they're not proper Goth are they?

LOved the Cure and went to see them twice.

One of my best mates at uni was a Goth and had an album by a band called 'Scraping the Foetus off the Wheel'. Nice. . She is now a police officer...

Notyummy · 12/08/2008 12:15

OMG - Sisters of Mercy!! That guy always used to wear black PVC trousers even though he had legs like pipecleaners. I didn't realise what bad teeth he had until I saw the closeup in the video there.

Ewww

DaDaDa · 12/08/2008 12:16

My record collection has a few guilty Goth secrets. Red Lorry Yellow Lorry.

Joy Division had a lot to answer for.

CatIsSleepy · 12/08/2008 12:17

Notyummy · 12/08/2008 12:20

catissleepy

Unfortunately for him, I think the sunglasses were probably his best facial feature...

CatIsSleepy · 12/08/2008 12:22

LOL notyummy you're probably right!

actually was listening to Interpol a while ago and dh accused them of sounding like the sisters of mercy or similar

I was a bit horrified...perhaps I have goth tendencies without really realising? if so am heavily in denial

Bronze · 12/08/2008 12:29

Oh SoM and the mission- I loved children.
I wasn't really a goth. My brother was though and I grew up listening to a lot of the stuff because of him.
Now I'm listening to butterfly on a wheel. You lot are really good making me listen to music more again especially as it helps me NOT to get depressed (yes even angsty stuff0

Bronze · 12/08/2008 12:31

The book Charlotte sometimes if fab too. Sad though.

DaDaDa · 12/08/2008 12:31

See also [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xRVm-JX5Rk Editors. Silly boys.

DaDaDa · 12/08/2008 12:32

Ahem

CatIsSleepy · 12/08/2008 12:33

ah yes editors-also known as Boy division I believe

OP posts:
Tatties · 12/08/2008 12:36

Bronze, I also find listening to music (yes even angsty stuff!) very uplifting. I should do it more often too

retiredgoth · 12/08/2008 12:39

.....it would be remiss of me not to comment on this thread, methinks.

....as the Sisters of Mercy You Tube link plays in the background, I reminisce about sweltering through Sisters gigs in my (very) heavy raincoat....

...bless You Tube. I even found this much loved, if obscure wonder from my Peel listening days....

CatIsSleepy · 12/08/2008 12:39

there's nothing like a good old wallow in melancholy music every now and then...sometimes it's just what you need

OP posts:
DaDaDa · 12/08/2008 12:40

at Boy Division. I do hope some of these bands are having a bit of a laugh with their po-facedness.

Killers. Ludicrous. But brilliant at the same time. Makes me want to go and invade Albania or something macho like that. The moustaches have to be part of an elaborate joke, surely?!

Notyummy · 12/08/2008 12:43

Apparently Springsteen is the Killers biggest influence.....not looking at that video he isn't

CatIsSleepy · 12/08/2008 12:45

I do love the killers
not at all sure about all that facial hair though...
