At a risk of sounding rather morbid, what music would you want played at your funeral?

I sadly went to a funeral yesterday and it made me think of writing out what I want, should I die.

There is so much music that means something to me, but what would you want playing at your send off?

I am thinking of:

Al Green - Ain't No Sunshine
Robbie Williams - Feel
Evanescence - My Immortal
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Westlife - You Raise Me Up

Gainsville Rock City by less than Jake
'well I'm half awake and half a world away,
all my past mistakes and every misspent day,
I wouldn't have it any other way'

cos whatever has happened in my life and whatever I ahve done has made me me and I wouldn't be the person I am without it. It was my happy song at my lowest moments.

And

Greenday good riddance (time of your life)

and
Brown-eyed girl cos dp said that always reminds him of me (good thing I haven't got blue eyes then )

My Uncle who loves Christmas has left strict instructions that the song to be played as he goes in to be cremated is "Chestnuts Roasting on an open Fire"....

Sorry Quint, one of my clients has kinda pipped you to the post on the funeral idea..
www.lastingpost.com/ thought it was such a good concept.

If I were to die tomorrow, I would have...

Green Day - "Good riddance (time of your life)" for DH as we had it at our wedding and it made us both

Take That - "Never forget" for my uni friends as it was played in a cheesy club on our last night of uni and we all sobbed in a drunken heap in case we never saw each other again (10 years later we're all still best of mates!)

And I'd want everyone to sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" for DS, as I sing it to him every night as he falls asleep after his last feed sob

DH was going to have 'Always look on the bright side of life' but changed his mind and left me a choice of 5.

We went in to 'It had to be you' By Harry Conneck Jnr and went out to 'Wild West Hero' by ELO. raised a few smiles

I'm going to have the Beautiful South's version of 'Don't fear the reaper'

and the lacrimosa from the Mozart requiem. Not a dry eye in the house!

SquiffyHock · 19/08/2008 22:26

Traditional for me: 'Abide with me' and 'The Lord is my Shepherd' - both make me weep.

Also, 'I watch the sunrise' as we sang that at my wedding.

My friend had this at her (very beautiful, Humanist) funeral. Precisely because at the age of 37, which she was, she HAD ridden through Paris in a sports car with the warm wind in her hair. Hell, she'd done it all

Ah has to be Treasure by The Cure:
"She whispers please remember me when I am gone from here
She whispers please remember me but not with tears
Remember I was always true
Remember that i always tried
Remember I loved only you
Remember me and smile
For its better to forget than to remember me and cry..."

Dad had Nessun Dorma by Pavarotti and Unforgettable by Nat King Cole.

The first because he adored football and opera, and the second because it reminded the family of one of the very few times in his life that he got drunk and was singing 'Un-for-gett-a-ble' over and over again whilst propped up against the kitchen table.

I want a humanist ceromony, don't much care about the music, but would love some nice poetry.

lovecat · 22/08/2008 00:40

I've decided I'm going to have to have 2 funerals - one RC, one humanist - DH's uncle had a humanist funeral and it was the 'best' funeral I've ever been to - all the others were so deeply impersonal, this one was really about him...

So for the humanist one I want some combo of (can't decide between them!):

Lazy Days or Strong - Robbie Williams
k d lang - the air that I breathe
Orpheus - David Sylvian
Distant Sun - Crowded House

And as the coffin goes out:
The theme tune from White Horses

DH says he has no idea what he wants so I've told him he's getting this - from me to him, kinda thing
