At a risk of sounding rather morbid, what music would you want played at your funeral?

I sadly went to a funeral yesterday and it made me think of writing out what I want, should I die.

There is so much music that means something to me, but what would you want playing at your send off?

I am thinking of:

Al Green - Ain't No Sunshine
Robbie Williams - Feel
Evanescence - My Immortal
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Westlife - You Raise Me Up

Im R/C and the church is gone very strict about what is played in church. But where i hope my music will get played is at the grave side.
My song has to be Queens (Another one bites the dust).

i had a very lovely song for a very close relative of mine.I am every thing because you loved me.celine deone.Sadley the relative died of alzimers and didnt even know me in the end and was quite abusive to every one.I saw past that and she did help to bring me up and made me what i am today.I hope that song will be played when i pop off.Surpose i should write that down some where.

Podmog - The Lark Ascending is beautiful - we played it when we buried our cat - would def. use it for dh's funeral (God forbid it happens)

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/08/2008 09:17

QS - that sounds a brilliant idea - I'd be interested in getting involved in that - I often mentally plan funerals !
Seriously though - that could be a sound idea

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/08/2008 09:20

I think I'd like a bit of jolly stuff..and something to make people cry, after all it is my funeral ! I like
Sheep may safely graze - Bach and something from Faure Requiem,, and the music from Robinson Crusoe

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/08/2008 09:21

robinson crusoe here

Snaf · 03/08/2008 10:09

I want Into My Arms by Nick Cave, and they had better all be sobbing by the end of it.

zaphod · 03/08/2008 10:23

Solsbury Hill, by Peter Gabriel. I have informed ds1 and regularly remind him.(He's 14)
We had no idea what music to play for my mother when she died, and she was a musician so it would have been fairly important to her.

saltire · 03/08/2008 10:59

Definately a piper, playing this. I had this tune on my wedding day

also I want this

I also quite fancy a tune called The Balck Bear, again played by pipes, but it sounds better played by a whole pipe band, so that might be asking a bit much

motherinferior · 03/08/2008 11:02

I am planning an array of country music, not least because I fancy the idea of subjecting the mourners to it. I am torn between having myself cremated to Ring of Fire and the Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris song 'we'll sweep out the ashes in the morning'; or perhaps I'll stick with the Rolling Stones' 'This could be the last time'.

I have put quite a lot of thought into this.

misdee · 03/08/2008 11:03

dh has suggested a cd album called 'Now thats what i call Funeral music!' he thinks it could be as big as the usual Now! series lol.

saltire · 03/08/2008 11:11

MI - Ring of Fire is one I thought of as well, along with Leaving on a Jet Plane!

motherinferior · 03/08/2008 11:16

I do have a leaning towards the Parsons, partly because it's also about an Illicit Affair and is therefore even less suitable.

cyteen · 03/08/2008 11:17

Bjork - Undo for one, not sure about anything else.

We had Street Spirit at my brother's funeral for when they carried him in, and Bold As Love by Jimi Hendrix for when he went into the flames. They were good choices -SIL chose the first and I chose the second, as during his final days in hospital we'd had a conversation about what we would want to be the last album we'd ever hear and he thought probably Axis (Bold As Love).

Hassled · 03/08/2008 11:17

I've always told the family I want to go out to Blue Suede Shoes .

Quint - your death website idea is a top one - I'd sign up.

themoon66 · 03/08/2008 11:18

Definitely this

moondog · 03/08/2008 11:26

lolat 'Now that's...funeral music'.
You're right Misdee,would be massive.

SheikYerbouti · 03/08/2008 11:29

I want "Ding dong the witch is dead"

or "Another one bites the dust"

shabster · 03/08/2008 11:41

I am what I am - Shirley Bassey

Dont stop me now - Queen

Hips dont lie - Shakira

I want people to walk away and say 'that was brilliant.'

At my sons funeral we sang 'Lord of the Dance' and everybody sang his version 'I am the Lord of the Gods settee!!'
