I used to know loads but I'm struggling with ds who's now 5m, all I can remember is 'row your boat'and 'if you're happy and you know it'-even he's beginning to get tired of them

all the finger rhymes:
two little dicky birds
Tommy thumb where are you

the bouncing-on-the knee ones:
bumping up and down on the little red wagon
wheels on the bloody bus
this is the way the farmer rides

trad nursery rhymes:
grand old duke of york
humpty dumpty
ride a cock horse
pat a cake

fwiw a music group, or rhyme time at the library, is a good way to a) get out the house and b) improve your repertoire

DD also enjoys campfire songs from my girl guide days and the Pogues

Lizzer · 05/06/2008 13:03

Thanks mrs B! You've managed to jog a brain cell or 2 into action That's one bad thing about having an 8yr age gap, my mind is no longer in 'the zone'

Pogues eh? Well a damn sight nicer than blardy high school musical soundtrack on repeat Although lately dd has been enjoying the sound of music soundtrack too (timeless)

He's a bit young yet but Sleeping Bunnies is fun:

(Lying down)

See the little sleeping bunnies,
Sleep till it's nearly noon
Shall we wake them with a merry tune?
They're so still...
Are they ill? (was always a bit at that line )

NO! (Jump up)

Hop little bunnies hop hop hop
Hop little bunnies hop hop hop
Hop little bunnies hop hop hop
Hop little bunnies hop hop hop

Ahem, sorry; cars, pints, birds, football. Grrr.

DaDaDa · 05/06/2008 14:37

Wind the bobbin up
Wind the bobbin up
Pull pull pull
Wind it back again
Wind it back again
Pull pull clap clap clap

You've got to point to the ceiling
Point to the floor
Point to window
Point to the door
Clap your hands together 1,2,3
Put your hands upon your knee (?)

Peter rabbit's got a fly upon his nose

MrsBadger · 05/06/2008 14:46

as he's a bit young for actions the longer ones are good too - I like 'the lady with the alligator purse' and 'O Jemima'

also the one about the baby going down the plughole

for some reason we do counting songs at bathtime :
Five little ducks
Five green and speckled frogs
1-2-3-4-5, once I caught a fish alive
Three blind jellyfish

LittleMyDancing · 05/06/2008 15:01

can anyone tell me what the middle and little fingers are called in Tommy Thumb Where Are You?

MrsBadger · 05/06/2008 15:03

Toby Tall and Baby Small [geek emoticon]

Wezzle · 05/06/2008 15:04

peter pointer
toby tall
ruby ring
baby small

have watched the fun song factory far too many times

cestlavie · 05/06/2008 15:09

DaDaDa: Sleeping Bunnies is just fantastic... DD virtually hits the ceiling when she 'wakes up'!

Jingle Jangle Scarecrow is always a winner too... great motions.

BouncingTurtle · 05/06/2008 15:09

At the Tiny Treasures group I take DS(5mo) we do

Horsey Horsey don't you stop
Just let your feet go clippity clop
Your tail goes swish and your wheels go round
Giddy-up we're homeward bound

or
Gee up Neddy to the fair
What shall we buy when we get there?
A Ha'penny apple and a ha'penny pear
Gee up Neddy to the fair

Both bouncing baby on the knee.

We also do
Zoom zoom zoom we're going to the moon
Zoom zoom zoom we're going very soon
If you want to take a trip
Climb aboard a rocket ship
5 4 3 2 1 ZOOM!!!
We bounce baby on the knee and them lift them in the air on the last zoom

But my ds's favourite is When I was one

When I was one
I sucked my thumb
I jumped aboard a pirate ship and the Captain said to me
We're going this way that way
Forwards and back and over the Irish Sea
A bottle of rum to fill my tum
And that's the life for me.
Then it goes
When I was 2 I buckled my shoe
When I was 3 I banged my knee
When I was 4 I knocked on the door
When I was 5 I took a dive.

I have ds sat on my knee, lift him in the air and sit in him back down at "jumped aboard a pirate ship"
Then I move him left then right, forward and back on the next line, then chuck him in the air at "over the Irish sea" - not very far, only out of my hands for a second(his favourite bit!), and then bounce him for the rest of the song.
Hope this makes sense

Pinkjenny · 05/06/2008 15:13

Peter Rabbit's got a fly upon his nose
The wheels on the bus

jingleyjen · 05/06/2008 15:16

peter rabbits fly on his nose
sleeping bunnies
jingle jangle scarecrom
wind bobbin up
we do wheels on bus but I get bored way before they do.

Lizzer · 05/06/2008 15:43

OH wow thanks for all your suggestions Been out all afternoon and came back to all these songs... The fog is lifting and i remember most of them now...

We never did sleeping bunnies though, is it a new one? Thanks for the words dadada (and for showing your feminine side )

StarlightMc-i'm with you on the no bobbin thing

BT, i want to live in your area, they do have lots of groups and things to do...Not a lot round here (well expensive rip-off music classes or toddler's-though I'm working up to the latter ) Are you in a surestart area? If I live 10 miles up the road I could go to loads of cool free groups-not fair!

So on that note I'm off to entertain ds with these songs, thanks again

DD's favourites are Tall Shops and Clappy Clappy Handies, along with others mentioned already.

DaDaDa · 05/06/2008 16:51

Sleep till it's nearly noon
A............................E...............A
Shall we wake them with a merry tune?
A
They're so still...
A
Are they ill?

NO! (Jump up)

A
Hop little bunnies hop hop hop
E.......................A
Hop little bunnies hop hop hop
A
Hop little bunnies hop hop hop
E.......................A
Hop little bunnies hop hop hop

southeastastra · 05/06/2008 16:54

ooh thanks dada i'll have a go. lol are they ill!

ImPinkThereforeImSpam · 05/06/2008 16:57

MrsB, I sang 'My baby has gone down the plughole' to DS in the bath when he was about a year and a half old which he really enjoyed.
However the next time he had a bath, I pulled the plug out at the end before I had lifted him out, and you'd have thought the world was ending! I have never heard a child shriek like that before or since!

BouncingTurtle · 05/06/2008 17:02

Lizzer yes I am in a Surestart area, it;s great loads of different groups for upto 5yo.
Starting Tiny Signers next week!
