Best/Worst gigs

Bloody hell can't believe I missed the arrival of the much loved music.

What's the best and worst gig/s you have ever been to?

My best would be Frank black & the catholics shepherds bush 2003, the energy was amazing, I was so euphoric and dancing everywhere, the best night ever.

Polyphonic spree were also great, so much energy and such a big sound.

Dresden dolls 200?, made the hairs rise on the back of my neck, mesmerising.

Now worst

have to say that Rush wembley 2004, was the 3 longest hours of my life...including labour.

Jethro tull good god no (was dragged to these
by dp, wouldn't have gone if not desperate for a night out)

Radiohead Newcastle arena, soooo dull and lifeless and boring, I love radiohead but this gig sucked, probably something to do with the arena but it was just ANother gig.

"Club Tropicana, drinks are freeeeeeeeee..."

Best - Rush - Exit Stage Left - about 20 years ago now I guess
Worst - Iron Maiden - also 20 or more years ago, with boyfriend at the time

I don't go to gigs much now, far more concerts these days

ShowOfHands · 02/06/2008 20:54

REM, Ralph McTell and Marilyn Manson extremely good.

Eminem very bad.

Disappointed by Beth Orton and the Chieftains too.

ShowOfHands · 02/06/2008 20:56

Oh and Chumba Wamba not as good live as I'd hoped.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 02/06/2008 20:56

Randi Crawford was dire as was Luther Vandross...snore

Best - at the front at RHCP at Hyde Park.

Robbie was always good too...what happened to him?

chegirl · 02/06/2008 20:59

Amy was just fab at the ICA last year. Fantastic.

Worst? Imagination at Queensbury Civic hall were not up to much.

o o o saw madness a few weeks ago and they were brilliant.

RiojaLover75 · 02/06/2008 21:00

Air at Brixton Academy in 2004.............

Snore , it was one of mine and DH first few dates too, I sooooo wasn't into that music. We're still together though and we agree to differ in our musical tastes!

liath · 02/06/2008 21:00

Best ever was Queensryche (I think, can't remember the spelling) who were a fairly forgettable heavy metal band but they did an amazing gig in Edinburgh in 1991, absolutely electric.

Worst one was when I nearly got crushed to death but I don't remember what forgettable heavy metal band that one was!!!

Whatever happened to my youth? Haven't been to anything since I was pg with dd .

Best The Clash-Victoria Hall 1980, got on stage and Joe Strummer patted me on the head while singing London Calling! Also INXS at the NEC-Michael Hutchence was unbelievably sexy-never thought I'd be the kind of girl to scream at a concert!
Worst- Happy Mondays, they were on for 20 crap minutes and Shaun Ryder just sat on the edge of the bass drum sounding bored.

havalina · 02/06/2008 21:08

Maidamess you are evil (apart from your love of take that). Oh god I forgot about Iron maiden, saw them at download and they were so snoresome every song sounded the same. LOVE maz manson saw him at leeds fest and download and was amazing, the leeds fest gig was super, was the one with the stilts and corsets and big expanding dress thingamy, couldn't take my eyes off the stage. Apart from when he shoved a drumstick (wood not turkey) up his arse and threw it into the crowd, shame he seems to have gone a bit bland recently.

groove armada are always fab.

surprisingly pete doherty, hackney empire, a full 2 hour set, no breaks, mesmerising.

bluefox · 02/06/2008 21:19

Best - Muse, Wembley last year. Led zep - Sunderland 1971. Springsteen - Newcastle (about 25yrs ago). I am very old!
Worst - still thinking.

northender · 02/06/2008 21:37

Springsteen last week at Old Trafford! dh and I queued for hours to get access to the "pit" at the front. Bruuuuce was about 3 feet away from me at several points during the concert. dh(obsessive Bruce fan)found it very amusing that I was so excited by it as I used to be deeply uninterested and left him to go to concerts with his mate. A case of if you can't beat em join em I guess!

Worst was Magnum at the Britannia pub in Plymouth many moons ago. Again taken by dh but it didn't convert me and I still feel exactly the same

havalina · 02/06/2008 21:44

Magnum are so funny, saw them at the astoria and had such a laugh, the band were cheesy goodness and the fans were even better, it was comedy from start to finish. I don''t mind seeing bands that you can at least laugh at.

I have been to pathetically few gigs. But top of the lot has to be Springsteen at Emirates on Sat night. WOWEEE! northender lucky you to have been so close to him, he seranaded a couple of very very lucky ladies on Sat night and their faces were just shining with excitement and a lot of love for him, great stuff.

My dh got us tickets to go to see Bruce at Crystal Palace as a surprise wedding anniversary present 4 years ago, backfired big time on him poor love as I was 8 weeks preg with twins and we had to leave after half an hour as I couldn't stand up any longer. But Sat night was SUPERB. Desperate to find someone else who went so we can rave on and on together. I have to ask tho' what the bloke in front of us was doing on his Blackberry throughout the whole thing, and why on earth his girlf hadn't gone with a mate. She was bopping in the aisle and he was fiddling away on his wretched machine. Am now sitting at home going through Springsteen albums one by one and instead of working... much more fun.

northender · 02/06/2008 21:54

Clare, I've just started a thread on the Springsteen concerts so we don't have to bore anyone else!

MegBusset · 02/06/2008 21:55

Best: Manic Street Preachers at the Astoria in Dec 1994, was the last gig they played before Richey vanished. The atmosphere was like nothing else I've ever experienced (and I've been to a LOT of gigs).

Worst: Stone Roses and the Manics at Wembley Arena, 1995. The crappest big venue in London. The first gig the Manics played without Richey, was just horrible. And bloody hell, Ian Brown just cannot sing live.

cocolepew · 02/06/2008 21:57

Worst; Stone Roses at a Leisure Centre near us, it was woeful.
