I'm interested in hearing new alternative bands. The last band I got into was Amyl and the Sniffers. I love The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, P J Harvey, Buzzcocks, Nirvana, Modest Mouse, Smashing Pumpkins, Pixies, MGMT, Iggy Pop, Deftones, Tool and am looking for new things to listen to.

I haven't heard of Denver County Council but that is a fantastic name for a band.

Amyl and the Sniffers are great. Saw them live, can't wait to go again.

I've got back into Nine Inch Nails recently and early Offspring. If you like Tool have you listened to A Perfect Circle.

Eta: nothing new from me either!

I'm into a lot of the same bands as you, and the only modern(ish) music that really resonates with me is in the Beach Goth genre. Maybe explore that a bit? The Growlers, Shannon and the Clams, Allah-Las, etc.

I'm also really liking L.A. Witch right now. Garage rock vibe.

Thanks all. I'll check all these recommendations out.

Not THAT new, but Fontaines DC are great. I really wanted to see them on Saturday last in Finsbury Park but tickets were like gold dust.

LittleTroubleGirl · 07/07/2025 17:55

I’m a 90s alternative kid at heart. Favourite bands were stuff like Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, PJ Harvey, Breeders, Lemonheads, RATM, Nirvana, Mogwai etc. Agree Fontaines DC have caught my interest recently and loved Amyl and the Sniffers at Glastonbury. Maybe not what you’re after but I’ve enjoyed listening to MJ Lenderman who I heard on BBC Radio 6 a while back. Sort of Americana type stuff. That’s where I get most of my new music from these days, that and going down rabbit holes on streaming platforms but it’s quite a time consuming hobby. Also recommend following KEXP on YouTube for new bands from both UK and across the pond.

Trampolene, Big special, Girl band. I also really like Fat Dog at the moment who aren't strictly a guitar band but are amazing.

MostlyGhostly · 07/07/2025 22:15

Excellent thread! I have the same taste in music and also a latecomer to Fontaines DC. Got into Wunderhorse somehow through listening to them and got into Amyl and the Sniffers via Sleaford Mods (Amy T guest vocals). I really like bands that sing/ rap in their own accents, especially uk regional ones, and am a sucker for working class angst/ protest lyrics and they all seem to fit the bill. thanks for the newer music recommendations pps. If OP doesn’t mind, may I also ask where you hear most new music? I listen to 6 music and get recommendations from Apple Music but it’s not like when XFM were around, I’d find a new favourite band every week

tomatoplantproject · 07/07/2025 22:15

As mentioned before, Fontaines DC
