A Message To You Rudy.

DialSquare · 02/03/2023 19:58

Not sure if you are aware but The Prince is a tribute to Prince Buster who sang Al Capone (and many other songs including Madness and One Step Beyond)).

Findyourneutralspace · 02/03/2023 19:59

Doesn’t make it alright - the Specials
Embarrassment - Madness
54-46
Bombscare - the Selector

Then some older first wave stuff

Girly girly - Sophie George
Perfidia - Phyllis Dillon

That was the first single I ever bought!

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 02/03/2023 20:05

I know it was a cover but my first ever single was “Can’t get used to losing you” by The Beat, great song

AsanteSana · 02/03/2023 20:06

'Bam, Bam' by Sister Nancy, though it could be argued that it is more reggae than ska

Ghost Town is a fave.

A Message To You Rudy.

I feel I often pop up on these threads to say that A Message To You, Rudy is a cover of a track by Dandy Livingstone, who not only had a brilliant name, but a beautiful voice.

(I do love The Specials but was excited to discover this as I'd had no idea it was a cover).

AsanteSana · 02/03/2023 20:34

@AccidentallyFabulous, concur with you regarding Dandy Livingstone's voice and 'Suzanne, beware of the devil' is one of my al time favourites

DialSquare · 02/03/2023 20:37

I've got both versions on my playlist @AccidentallyFabulous
