Adele overkill

Is it me or is the fact Adele has made her first new album in 6 years really headline news? It was like she is a new messiah. The BBC ran it every 15 minutes this morning and even when they went to the weather, the presenters were asking the forecaster what they thought of her latest tracks. Old Adele certainly couldn’t complain at the amount of free publicity she was getting today - especially from a supposedly non commercial broadcaster. Good luck to her and all that, but the drooling was painful!

Old Adele? Seriously?

2389Champ · 15/10/2021 12:50

@Bluntness100

Old Adele? Seriously?
😂😂😂 I suppose 6 years is a long time in show business, so it might make someone ‘old’ by their terms.

Totally agree, I'm tired of the fawning over her "new body" as well. Well done to her if she wanted to lose the weight for herself, but I don't know why it's everywhere. It just undermines what they said about her "old" body in the first place, which I'm finding a bit sad.

Nitgel · 15/10/2021 12:55

I find her voice really grating. Dont get it.

mydogisthebest · 15/10/2021 13:00

Sick of hearing about her to be honest. Another cd of her miserable songs sung in her depressing voice.

Paddingtonthebear · 15/10/2021 13:03

Yep couldn’t care less about her new music. Same for Coldplay.

maofteens · 15/10/2021 13:06

Ha I agree! Like she's the second coming or something! I love her music but it doesn't warrant the amount of attention it's getting in non entertainment news.

Pythonista · 15/10/2021 13:11

Actually I had no idea! But thanks for spreading the word further

Burnerphone21 · 15/10/2021 13:49

I like her music but it's the body fawning that annoys me. It's the 'see of course she wanted to be thin all along' nuances. I wonder what the fuck this does to Adele self esteem really. I hope she doesn't take it all too seriously.

A very good point.

It’s almost like there’s a subliminal message coming from the media, “You see, Adele might well have been a very successful singer before but she’s even better now she’s slimmer!”

megletthesecond · 15/10/2021 13:58

They said it was catchy and I had high hopes thinking it would be the first song of hers I liked. It isn't.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 15/10/2021 15:28

@2389Champ yes exactly - I couldn't quite find the words but completely agree with you! It's like she had to be extraordinary to be taken seriously before, and also fulfilling that narrative that every woman wants to be skinny and she's somehow trading up with her divorce.

(Nothing against Adele BTW and I hope she's very happy, it's the media I'm annoyed with!)

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 15/10/2021 15:39

I think part of the thing with Adele is that she is a bit old-school in how she behaves. Between albums she all but disappears. So it gives her something of that Golden Age of Hollywood glamour when she does resurface; it's a bit like seeing Liz Taylor or Rita Hayworth turn up.

There is a lot of focus on her figure this time around though, which is irritating. (And not her fault, my criticism is how she's looked at not what she looks like.)

QuestionEverythingBaby · 15/10/2021 15:41

I agree you can't get away from her. Talk about overrated.

Alieninmybody · 15/10/2021 15:52

Ugh the whole thing is berserk.
She has an album, she appears everywhere and anywhere constantly to promote herself and make lots of money. She disappears off, wants nothing to do at all with the public eye for years. Then suddenly she's back and our screens are full of her and we get to hear all about her personal life, her poor child's trauma coming to terms with his parents divorce and her ridiculous lives on Instagram.
Can she not just release the music, do a few interviews and keep her private life private or just stay in the public eye all the time if she's going to bore us all to death years later with all the details of what went on when she hid away.

MintyGreenDream · 15/10/2021 15:52

Her music is shite and it all sounds the same to me

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 15/10/2021 15:57

I do like Adele, but this song is hardly groundbreaking is it, it just sounds like loads of her other stuff! They played it twice in the same half hour on Radio 1 this morning!

DoucheCanoe · 15/10/2021 16:01

I agree.

Whether you're a fan of Adele or not the constant in your face build up has meant it's all a bit boring before we've even heard it.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/10/2021 16:03

Her last album was really pedestrian. The fact that it beat Lemonade by Beyonce for a Grammy was a scandal. Whether or not you like Beyonce, that particular album was more like art really. Adele's was just so much run of the mill bleating

carbuncleonapigsposterior · 15/10/2021 16:13

I like her, but honestly too much hype, loads of people have to come to terms with the fact that their relationship has failed and the affect that has had on their child/ren reiterating it in such a relentless way is becoming boring! All too personal.

There also seems to be a spurious subtext in the video of "look at my nails, I might be sad but my nails have never been better"

User135644 · 15/10/2021 16:16

You'd expect a few press releases around it and a bit of a fuss after 6 years, but one album in the last 10 years seems really low for a major artist at their peak.

Gonnagetgoing · 15/10/2021 16:21

Too hyped.

She looks unrecognisable thinner too.

alligatorpeardrop · 15/10/2021 16:22

I'm fair to middling on her music but come on, have a bit of female solidarity! How about we celebrate her instead of moaning and saying she's shit.

I think she's done a fucking incredible job with her career. Shes a hugely talented songwriter. She's said herself that weight loss was down to her anxiety. I lost 2 stone when I went though a divorce. So what, stop criticising and turn over if you don't like her.

She has mass appeal and I salute the woman.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 15/10/2021 16:28

It's nothing to do with female solidarity @alligatorpeardrop - most PPs above are either complaining about the OTT media coverage and the tone of it, or they don't like the actual music, which are both valid opinions.

Silenceisgolden20 · 15/10/2021 16:30

Female solidarity isn't liking every female artist? And hard to turn over if she's on every channel.
