The music press always rave about Arcade Fire: they are utterly without merit as far as I can tell. Emperor's New Clothes. They sound like New Order, you say? Not in their wildest dreams with a 60ft pole. Finking, frugging, hippy-dip, tuneless shite. I feel the same about Editors and Mumford & Sons. Pasty, sweaty men with guitars and limited record collections, the lot of them; whenever I hear them I channel Adam Ant pulling a huge jukebox plug out of the wall in the Antmusic video.

Thank you for allowing me to get this off my chest Grin

I don't get:
Muse
U2 (bunch of tax dodging wankers)
Abba
Queen
Beatles
Stones

I generally love anything miserable though
Radiohead
Editors
The National
Mumford and sons Smile
Etc etc.

YokoUhOh · 05/06/2013 11:11

Abba haters: expand on this hatred for me! What's to hate? A bunch of genius pop songs? You can't seriously hate SOS or Does Your Mother Know? :)

just me hating Dylan then?

YokoUhOh · 05/06/2013 11:19

MrsOakenshield he is far from being my favourite artist, although I own loads of Dylan albums

I hate Mumford and sons. Hate them. Every now and then there is a thread on here asking for new music recommendations and someone will say Mumford and sons within the first three posts and then I get the rage and have to hide the thread.

I'm totally not getting the Daft Punk hysteria atm.

I also love SFA Grin

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 05/06/2013 11:51

I can't stand Dylan either.

SweetestThing · 05/06/2013 12:03

Dylan - miserable, whiney, nasal, can't sing.

devilinside · 05/06/2013 12:35

Warbly R & B stuff that's in the charts, U2, Radiohead (I can appreciate the song writing, but the music's just so whiny)

superbagpuss · 05/06/2013 12:40

he's one that may get me shot down in flames

Bruce Springsteen

I just don't get him at all

I do like a lot of bands mentioned on here

Gunznroses · 05/06/2013 12:41

ha!ha! too many to count!

ShadeofViolet · 05/06/2013 12:41

The Beatles
Coldplay
The Rolling Stones
U2
I also have a disproportional hatred of Usher. I have no idea why, but it definitely got worse after he released Scream.

ShadeofViolet · 05/06/2013 12:44

And Kei$ha - who buys her stuff?

Mumford and Sons - or the Waitrose Levellers as Matt Everitt on 6music referred to them as (and had me in stitches)

YokoUhOh · 05/06/2013 15:03

SecondComing I've a friend who knows them, am v jealous as I've loved them for years :)

I saw Arcade Fire and Mumford and Son's at the same gig once. Mumford and Sons were truly dire tough I can see how they might work in a small setting, but not Hyde Park. Arcade Fire, on the other hand, rocked.

I've never understood the Smiths worship but I think that may be partly cultural. It's a bit hard to relate to the stuff aimed at disaffected urban youth when you grew up in a country with not much of the way of urban areas for the youth to hand around in a disaffected way.

nipersvest · 05/06/2013 15:11

bob dylan - dh & i have rowed about this one, i can't stand him, dh loves dylan

oasis

joydivisionovengloves · 05/06/2013 15:34

superbagpuss I won't shoot you down in flamers but can I ask how much Springsteen stuff you've listened to? If it's only Born In The USA era and after stuff then you have missed out.

Back on subject - The Police - massively overrrated

superbagpuss · 05/06/2013 15:38

joydivision

my duh likes him so I have had to listen to quite a lot. I think its his voice I find annoying and its a bit bland IMHO

I love proper rock from thunder to metallica to DragonForce and classical music as well as muse, Radiohead, Beatles, blur etc so I think its personal with Bruce, sorry

I also hate any boy or girl band stuff but to me that's just fluff, not music Wink

Peetle · 05/06/2013 15:48

Utterly baffled by the reverence shown to Oasis and the Stone Roses. The first are arrogant and shouty (and one of the most boring bands I've ever seen live) while the Roses have a few nice tunes but are just an unoriginal 60s throwback. However, if I'd known PiL were support in Finsbury Park I'd have got a ticket.

Coldplay - dull, dull, dull.

I like The River by Springsteen, but everything he does sounds the same.

Editors and Mumfords - liked them both a lot, initially, but seem to have got bored with both them quite quickly.

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 05/06/2013 16:01

Pop
R&B

It's rarely good. I can't bear listening to voices that have been through autotune.

YokoUhOh · 05/06/2013 17:44

Pop and R&B are big old genres...!

True Grin
I suppose at a push I could find a few that don't offend me!

insancerre · 05/06/2013 17:52

I'm with you on Arcade Fire
I don't get
Queen
madonna
michael jackson
oasis
take that
one direction
dire straits
abba
kiss
spice girls
boyzone
and most of the shite that everyone listens to these days

I do like
editors
smiths
joy division
florence and the machine
and mumford and sons
muse

ChewingOnLifesGristle · 05/06/2013 17:57

Muse give me a terrible headache.
Coldplay (gloomy).
U2 (another headache)

And lately Daft Punk. I was only vaguely aware of them before. Now there's that ghastly Up all night to get lucky tripe. I HATE that song.
