The music press always rave about Arcade Fire: they are utterly without merit as far as I can tell. Emperor's New Clothes. They sound like New Order, you say? Not in their wildest dreams with a 60ft pole. Finking, frugging, hippy-dip, tuneless shite. I feel the same about Editors and Mumford & Sons. Pasty, sweaty men with guitars and limited record collections, the lot of them; whenever I hear them I channel Adam Ant pulling a huge jukebox plug out of the wall in the Antmusic video.

Thank you for allowing me to get this off my chest Grin

:)

Mumford and Sons... the trust fund wurzels

joydivisionovengloves · 04/06/2013 21:37

The Beatles
The Specials
Coldplay
Kings of fucking Leon

Quite like Arcade Fire although baffled by the New Order Comparison

YokoUhOh · 05/06/2013 08:05

Do you like Half Man Half Biscuit by any chance JoyDivisionOvenGloves? :)

the beatles. They were in the right place at the right time. that is all.

Amy winehouse.

joydivisionovengloves · 05/06/2013 09:07

How did you guess? Wink

YokoUhOh · 05/06/2013 10:30

That annoys me too, Rhino. To follow through on my promise, here is the 'first ever hard rock song' by The Beatles (Macca, actually):

(I don't think it's hard rock, either, bit that's what people say it is...)

I like dub reggae, Stone Roses, Otis Redding, Duran Duran, Northern Soul and One Direction, does that mean I'm just confused?

Agree about Arcade Fire and Muse, although I like Mumford and Sons.

Also don't get/can't stand:

  • the fucking Smiths. Not that funny or that clever and the music's meh.
  • the fucking Manics. Studenty-politics idiots.
  • Kraftwerk. I can't think of anywhere I'd like to be less than that wankfest they did at Tate Modern recently.
  • the Rolling Stones. Just retire. It's embarrassing now.
  • John Grant. Dull chugging mid-tempo music and oh-so-clever lyrics that aren't, really.
LadyClariceCannockMonty · 05/06/2013 10:42

Oh, and the Stone Bloody Roses can piss off too. Whiny voice, jangly teeth-itching guitar, terrible clothes and worse hair.

sonlypuppyfat · 05/06/2013 10:43

Take That I just don't get it Dull Dull Dull

Arcade Fire
Muse
Radiohead
Florence and the Machine (I find her voice unlistenable)
U2

Pretty much all posh white boy bedwetter bannds like Keane and Athlete and all that shite.

JaceyBee · 05/06/2013 10:48

Oh and I doubt everyone else loves them but I study in Wales and they all love the Stereophonics - who are literally the shittest band ever to exist.

Super Furries on the other hand are ace.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 05/06/2013 10:49

SecondComing, no, I'm just not of the same opinion as you. 'Dude'.

StickPin · 05/06/2013 10:51

I LOVE Arcade Fire. I'm shocked, shocked i tell ya.

Agree with Manic Street Preachers though.

MrsOakenshield · 05/06/2013 10:54

Bob Dylan. Yes, he can write and great tune and great lyrics, but his voice!!!!!! Oh my God, whine whine whine whine whine. With a bit of nasal thrown in.

Most modern vacuous R 'n' B.

TheSmallPrint · 05/06/2013 10:57

Stop slagging off Muse, they are amazing even if they've gone a bit weird lately.

Agree with U2 though, they had about one good song. Actually most of the bands mentioned here have one or two good songs and the rest is pants.

But it would be a dull old world as they say.

YokoUhOh · 05/06/2013 10:59

Jacey are you me? Love SFA, totally underrated band. Stereophonics: Dakota is a great FM radio record, the rest is shite.

Lots of people have a terribly high tolerance for the pasty-White-male-guitars-seriousface-lovejoydivisionme bands, of which there are MILLIONS. I hate them all: give me something like Kraftwerk or Prince or just anything apart from another boring guitar band.

SecondComing think you'll find that the Roses have more in common with The Fab Four than the Rolling Stones. Also, Roses fans (of which I am one) seem to ignore the lineage: the Ian Brown Under The Influence record is full of stuff like Cymande. The Roses mostly listened to 'black' music (wasn't it Geno Washington who told Brownie to be a singer?)
