It pains me to put forward one of my favourite bands for the title of Worst Cover version but I have to say Janes Addiction did a truly bad cover of 'sympathy for the devil.'

Who else has done a hatchet job on a perfectly good song?

Gwyneth "singing" Bette Davis Eyes

RustyBear · 14/05/2011 06:43

Have you seen William Shatner 'perform' Rocket Man?

Rusty Grin Shatner is well known for doing appaling covers.

Jason Donovan - "As Time Goes By"

Excruciating.

methodsandmaterials · 14/05/2011 11:15

All Saints - Under the Bridge

methodsandmaterials · 14/05/2011 11:17

Oh, and Westlife's version of Uptown Girl made me want to shoot someone.

methodsandmaterials · 14/05/2011 12:15

What? Nothing else?

whatkungfuthat · 14/05/2011 14:48

Yep, Lily Allen doing Straight to Hell makes my blood boil, even if Mick Jones is involved.

iridium · 14/05/2011 16:07

Sixpence None The Richer's version of There She Goes - the blah result of a Christian rock band doing a soulless take on a song about heroin.

Saltire · 14/05/2011 16:11

Jedwards version of Under Pressure surely has to go on the bonfire?

Pagwatch · 14/05/2011 16:14

Mariah Carey singing Without You.
fuck me, it is so very far beyond awful

Pagwatch · 14/05/2011 16:15

Alexandra Burke destryoing Hallelujah

iridium · 14/05/2011 16:25

Anything that's ever been on X Factor? :) Reality shows in general must a rich seam of bad covers.

joydivisionovengloves · 15/05/2011 19:13

George Michael's version of True Faith made me want to commit murder.

AuntieMonica · 15/05/2011 19:20

Sade doing 'Still in Love with You'

Phill Lynott was rough and raw - she is not Confused

Sad

natto · 15/05/2011 19:24

oh there are loads! totally agree with True Faith, Uptown Girl and Under the Bridge as previously mentioned. but pretty much any covers by boybands/girlbands/pop idol people. robbie williams doing manu chao's 'bongo bong', oh dear!

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 15/05/2011 19:25

much though i love them, i was very underwhelmed by Arctic Monkeys' version of Red Right Hand.

DirtyMartini · 15/05/2011 19:26

'Psycho Killer' (originally Talking Heads) covered by a two-piece band called Psycho whose album DP bought at the Oxfam vinyl shop. I think they were Greek. Their quasi-operatic "fa-fa-FA-fa"s had to be heard to be believed.

DuchessofCambridge · 15/05/2011 19:32

there is an awful version of Ronan Keating doing Fairytale of New York in a dreadful shmaltzy way which completely ruins the whole premise of a wonderful song.

DuchessofCambridge · 15/05/2011 19:34
Hippee · 15/05/2011 20:56

Really don't like Eva Cassidy's "Fields of Gold".

natto - had never heard that Robbie Williams version of Bongo Bong -- it's awful. My kids adore the Manu Chao version, but they do think that the fourth line is "Banging Martha's bongo" (which they love because DD is Martha).

natto · 15/05/2011 23:23

Hippee- how cute! Martha was on our girl name list but we've got boys :)

upahill · 15/05/2011 23:40

Eva Cassidy's Somewhere over the rainbow makes the original sound ok.

bloody awful cover of a shite song!
