Have a wonderful time! Envy Grin

upahill · 24/01/2011 19:26

I'm planning on going to Manchester on Sunday.

Jellycat yeah Ian Astbury is still singing

Listen to this from Slash's album from last year.

Jellykat · 24/01/2011 19:55

I listened and loved it!

Then i carried on along the Ian Astbury discovery trail, and Bloody Hell didn't realize he'd been fronting The Doors!! Completely spot on vocally, listened to 'Riders on the storm' and was in heaven..
AAaaah Happy now Grin

upahill · 24/01/2011 20:08

He's great isn't he.
He is my all time favourite living male singer.
If it was this time last year it would have been a very tight call between him and Dio and the result would have depended on what song I was listening to at the time!!

Jellykat · 24/01/2011 20:20

Do you remember Kirk Brandons' voice in Theatre of Hate/Spear of Destiny? That had a similar ooomph too!.
But he wasn't as beautiful as Ian,and his leather trews didn't fit as well..Wink

superv1xen · 24/01/2011 21:20

yeah i love that slash/ian astbury song!

didn't know IA had been fronting the doors? Shock

oooh cant wait till tomorrow :o

What I didn't know about Ian Astbury was that he grew up 11 miles from where I grew up.

How could I not know that? Confused

Jellycat

Yeah I saw Kirk Brandon recently ( well about 2 years ago) He was part of a band called Dead Man Walking.

Not bad!

purepurple · 25/01/2011 19:19

ooh, am jealous. I saw the Cult many moons ago, love Spiritwalker.
I also loved Kirk Brandon (as did Boy George too, according to the recent BBC production about his life Grin)

Jellykat · 25/01/2011 19:28

good, i like to hear the singers i grew up with are still alive, kicking and gigging!

I was listening to a Jo Whiley interview with Jake Shears recently, and he was singing the praises of 'The Cramps' who i adored.I didn't know Lux Interior died suddenly in 2009, i felt quite upset..Wierd isn't it,it's not like i knew him or anything!Confused

purepurple · 25/01/2011 19:36

I loved the Cramps and was very lucky to see them in about 86. I was very sad whan Lux died.

Jellykat · 25/01/2011 19:41

Yes PP, I was quite shocked by that docudrama- not the gay aspect of their affair, but the persona that Kirk Brandon put across didn't quite tie in with the whole Blitz club/Marilyn/Boy George thing..I used to obsessively buy 'The Face' and don't ever remember Kirk Brandon posing with them..He must've kept it well far from media eyes, mind you some of his fans would've beaten the crap out of him if they'd known i suppose Grin

Ooo Keep Xposting..I wish i had!Sad Did you ever see The B52s?
What about The Tubes?

purepurple · 25/01/2011 19:55

No, didn't see the B52s or the Tubes. I went through a phase of going to gigs that lasted about a year and then I ran out of money, got married, had babies and stopped going. We started going to gigs again a few years ago.
Some of the bands I saw in the 'olden days' as DD calls them
The Smiths x2
Echo and the Bunnymen x2
Lloyd Cole
Cult
Cramps
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Mission
Dr and the Medics
Zodiac Mindwarp
The Cure
Half Man Half Biscuit
We've got a Fuzzbox
Pogues
Pyschedlic Furs
Housemartins and some I've probably forgotten

Some of the bands I have seen recently are
Damned
Sex Pistols
Public Image Limited
Beat
Hazel O'connor
Madness
Boy George
Stranglers
Punishment of Luxury
Devo
Dickies
Peter and the Test Tube babies
Revillos
Stiff Little Fingers
Peter Murphy
and loads more that i can't think of atm.

upahill · 25/01/2011 20:29

Purepurle I've seen most of them bands/ artists.
Not seen Madness ( no desire to)

Sawe Echo and the Bunnymen about 3 years ago and it was shite!Total rubbish
Never liked Lloyd Cole or Boy George (my sisters music is that)
I had tickets for the Cramps years ago and I was so excited. Then on the way home from work I got knocked over, was unconcious and consequently missed them.

I did read about Lux Interiors death and I too was sad.

Not as sad as I was about Ronnie James Dio last year though. We had tickets to go and see him in the previous Deccember and it was cancelled. I found out why and then heard about his death in May.
The worst thing was watching a clip on youtube made about a month before his demise saying how better he felt and how he was looking forward to being in the studio in October.

We've got a fuzz box! Blimey. Do you rememeber them joining up with Ted Chiipington and doing Rockin with Ria (Head to toe!) Catchy shit!!
They have reformed and are playing at some festival somewhere soon (Vague news!)

Here you go Totaly terrible

upahill · 25/01/2011 20:32

OH NO!!!!!!
'Human fly' has popped into my head! It is going to be there for days now! (....and I don't know why....)

Jellykat · 25/01/2011 20:34

Am well impressed! I know about Pete Murphy Envy..We met on the Toyah/Hazel O'Conner thread i think ..

I don't know why i didn't get more gigs in, lack of money being a student i guess, plus what i did have went on hairspray, crazy colour and speed! Just little gigs really- Crass,UK Decay, King Kurt etc i did see Peter and the test tube babies because the band i lived with supported them, but don't remember much Wink

I still have The Dickies version of 'Silent night' on white vinyl, plus a limited edition Suicide 12" of Cheree and Blondies' 12" of Rip her to shreds/X Offender amongst others..I'll never part with them..Smile

purepurple · 25/01/2011 20:35

Loved Rockin with Rita and loved Ted Chippington too. I saw them perform Rockin with Rita with Ted at Glastonbury. I did see Ted Chippington last year, and was disappointed to find that he wasn't funny anymore, and he's a vicar or something similiar.

Jellykat · 25/01/2011 20:41

upahill.."I go buzzzbuzzzbuzzz and it's just becuzzzz,i'm an unzipped fly and i don't know why,but i say... Buzzzzz" Grin

I can remember song lyrics, but don't ask me what day it is!!!

purepurple · 25/01/2011 20:44

Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
I did the human fly with a group of 3 year olds this week at work, it was fun.

I can remember song lyrics too, just can't remember the titles.

upahill · 25/01/2011 20:44

That has so made me laugh JellyKat!!!

I might move on to Surfin Bird later!!

purepurple · 25/01/2011 20:48

"You've got good taste!"

upahill · 25/01/2011 20:50

To think I should have been at a Cramps gig and I was bloody unconscious in hospital.

I never got the moment back (sob)

purepurple · 25/01/2011 20:56

I was supposed to go and see Pyschic TV but cried off, telling my friend I was ill. The real reson was that I read an article in NME by lead singer (forgotten his name) saying that people would not be able to go in if they were wearing black. As my whole wardrobe was black, I was really worried about getting turned away. How daft [bgrin]

upahill · 25/01/2011 20:59

That's hysterical purepurple!!

This thread just gets better.
