How can I deal with being misdiagnosed by my psychologist?

Gymnastxo96 · 24/03/2026 13:59

Back in August of 2025 I did phycological testing at a phycologist that I go to and they said my full IQ was 76 which I don’t understand because I type just fine and have good grammar and could type full sentences. Many people say you sure your IQ is 76 because I type just fine and have good grammer and can communicate well. And my adaptive behavior score was 57 which is pretty low. Why would they misinterpret that too? Why would they misinterpret the results and think I don’t understand medical decisions and they recommend medical guardianship. Why would they misinterpret my results? Now people think I am mentally challenged because of this. Are they wrong for misinterpreting the results to make me worse then I seem? Keep in mind I do have high functioning autism so do you think my autism played a role in how I did in the IQ test or you think I was completely misdiagnosed and it could be something else?

Nobody has said you will be single forever but it doesn’t matter if you are because living a good life doesn’t have to involve a man. I’m not sure what your extended family have to do with anything but I’m certain it will be quite obvious to them that you are not in a position emotionally or cognitively to be in a relationship. Instead of thinking of why that is and taking in what people are saying you just get stroppy like a teenager. You refuse to listen to the experience of others and tell them they are wrong. Your question should be how can you accept your diagnosis and move be on with your life because from everything you have posted the diagnosis is correct.

There are plenty of men that would sleep with a compliant woman with an IUD amd learning difficulties and they are not nice. So you won't be alone, if that's what you want. But I am sad for you that you don't see what is happening.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/03/2026 00:36

The doctor said it was borderline intellectual functioning. Look it up what it means

The only person on this thread who doesn't understand what it means is you, unfortunately.

murasaki · 28/03/2026 00:37

Gymnastxo96 · 28/03/2026 00:32

No. The doctor said it was mild. My adaptive behavior score was 57 and there are ways for me to improve it. And my IQ doesn’t show my true abilities. It’s definitely not moderate at all. The doctor would have said it was moderate but it’s not. The doctor said it was borderline intellectual functioning. Look it up what it means.

Borderline means on the edge of not functioning.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/03/2026 00:38

What am I going to tell my extended family?

About what?

murasaki · 28/03/2026 00:39

Your mother is taking parenting decisions for your best interest. Something I am not sure you could do for any child you might have. Actually I am sure you couldn't be as brave and not self interested as your mother. I wish her well.

Borderline means on the edge of not functioning.

Yeah I know but it’s not an intellectual disability. According to Wikipedia, Borderline intellectual functioning, previously called borderline mental retardation (in the ICD-8),[1] is a categorization of intelligence wherein a person has below average cognitive ability (generally an IQ of 70–85),[2] but the deficit is not as severe as intellectual disability (below 70 so basically it’s not a severe intellectual disability it’s only mild. I’m lucky that I am not severe.

Wikipedia is not a fully reliable source of information. The fact that you don't know that speaks volumes.

Having an adaptive behaviour score of 57 is pretty significant OP although I'm sure that you can maybe work to improve in some areas, we are not talking full independence and a completely "normal life" in the way that I think you want it to mean. It's clear that we can not get though to you. I'm sorry you aren't getting the answers you want.

About what?

What am I going to tell my extended family on why I am still single always and have no kids. My family is religious and we are Catholic so the church wants us to have kids no matter what the disability is.

Why? You are saying I am going to single forever? I don’t want that and there are plenty of men that will accept me and doctors say that I am able to have kids with support and I read online that people with intellectual disabilities can have kids and get married. How am I going to live like this? What am I going to tell my extended family?

No. I don't think you are going to be single forever and I didn't say that.

Once again, you have completely failed to understand what people are saying to you.

But I do think you have shown in everything you have posted why your mum has medical guardianship and why people responsible for you think you shouldn't be a parent.

I know it's hard to hear but you have consistently shown a complete lack of understanding in response to every single post on here even though you keep telling people you understand.

You don't.

What you are saying shows that you don't. Even though you think you do.

Ita hard to even know whether it's true that people have told you the IUD isn't permanent or that you will be a good parent with support because I doubt your understanding of what they have said is any more reliable than it is here. Tbh.

AuADHD · 28/03/2026 00:43

Your IQ and adaptive behaviour scores, according to Google, give you the cognitive abilities of a 10-12 year old and low or extremely low functioning in terms of social, personal, and daily living skills equating to significant support needs.

It’s good that your mum is trying to protect you. The last thing you need is to be pregnant.

I cannot condone a church that approves of bringing heavily disabled children into a world when their mother can't cope.

Although it does explain why you are not regular in using condoms. I am glad the IUD is in place. Presumably your mother is Catholic and she supports the IUD.

In conjunction with autism, bipolar disorder and Tourettes Syndrome, someone with borderline cognition is not going to be a capable mother.

I am not heavily disabled. I was able to graduate high school and some college. And I am able to speak. Being severely disabled means you can’t speak. I’m not like that!

That is not true.
In any case, I'm sure your extended family knows exactly what you're like.
They'll be relieved that you can't have children.

Many of the saints had no children, not always by choice, but made their work caring for other people in different ways. Or caring for animals, such as St. Francis. Nuns make the choice to not have children but to serve the community. There is a lot more to being a human being than having children alone.

You don't need to tell your family anything.

They already know.

Ok but I can improve on those so my mental age isn’t like that and by the way my IQ doesn’t reflect my true abilities! My therapist said not to focus on my label and the focus on my strengths.
