Anyone else feeling sick waiting to see what the PIP cuts will be?

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 18/03/2025 12:42

Wondering if I will still be able to pay for the numerous services and things my disabilities necessitate.
I think, given I have such severe issues, that I may be one of the “lucky” ones as from what I have read so far I would still have enough pip points plus I am older and have stage 4 cancer (separate to my other significant disability) but who knows.
Even if I escape the cull I am sad and scared for others who may lose their award.

I really hope that you don’t lose anything today. You shouldn’t have to be worrying at all time like this, it’s absolutely disgusting that people have been put in this situation waiting to hear the outcome.

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 18/03/2025 13:03

Also worried, especially as my DD has a significant learning disability so will be reliant on the state and benefits throughout her life.

FedUpandEatingChocolate · 18/03/2025 13:03

I really hoped better from Labour

cramptramp · 18/03/2025 13:04

I assume it’s only people who are fraudulently claiming it who need to be worried.

Charliechoosecarefully · 18/03/2025 13:06

So far it’s not looking THAT bad but it’s not finished yet

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 18/03/2025 13:08

The first thing I'll stop paying us council tax, gas and electricity. I think it will rake months, if not years for them to attempt cutting me off, and couldn't care less about CT.

If only that was true!
Pip fraud was 0.01% last year according to the DWP’s own figures so fraud is not an issue.

The fraud rate for PIP is so low that in the latest audit it's recorded as 0%.

Fraudulent claims are not the issue here.

It is not.

Fraud is very very low yet they’ll cast the net wide to catch every case and in the process will mistakenly stop the benefits of a huge amount of genuine claimants. It will be seen as collateral damage for the greater good sadly.

Lyannaa · 18/03/2025 13:11

Try not to panic. Labour have said that the reforms will be in line with their brand of politics. I think from what I have heard, the focus is going to be on 18-24 year olds who are are the group with the biggest rise in PIP claims in the last 5 years and this is thought to be linked to Covid / lockdown effects.

The government is also likely to shut down social media channels who create content which helps people get PIP.

Allmarbleslost · 18/03/2025 13:12

I feel sick with worry at the moment. If my dd loses her PIP I lose my carers allowance. I honestly don't know what we would do.

Another option Ive seen is accepting any sanctions as there’s a maximum they can take and then using food banks etc and ive heard some whisperings about the potential if its feasible for help for these people taking a stand like this although not sure if it’ll come to fruition but there is a lot going on behind the scenes from those who can help and want to.

No, they are changing eligibility criteria. What do you think, that the government is currently allowing people to claim fraudulently and it’s all ok, whereas by this afternoon they won’t? 🧐

ExtraDecluttering · 18/03/2025 13:14

Without the charities, social media channels etc far more genuine claimants will get their applications turned down because the assessment process for PIP is so difficult to navigate.

What I’m interested to know is will
they apply the new criteria retrospectively to existing claims and stop PIP for those not meeting the new threshold.

TeenagersAngst · 18/03/2025 13:17

From what I've heard, it's going to be about eligibility criteria and whether they are 'robust' enough. You can't ignore the fact that the numbers of 18-24 young people on disability benefits has risen fairly substantially in recent years. That has to be addressed.

I completely agree. They only help people to get what they are rightly entitled to. But it suited the government better when more people weren’t aware they were eligible.

ExtraDecluttering · 18/03/2025 13:20

Perhaps not so many young people would be on PIP if they had been able to access SEN and mental health support when they needed it.

CAMHS wait times are ridiculous

Queenanne20 · 18/03/2025 13:23

I'm also worried that if my dh loses his PIP then I'll lose carers allowance. I'll still have to care for him and he still won't be able to work. The only new thing that will happen for us is that we won't be able to afford to eat everyday and we won't be able to pay most of our bills. I'm also wondering whether it will just effect new applicants or whether it will apply to existing claimants.

Kibble29 · 18/03/2025 13:23

So it seems you will need to score at least 4pts in a single activity to qualify now?

Canaryhead · 18/03/2025 13:28

Yes it’s made me worried sick, literally. I had to cancel an appointment that I had paid for. I am in poverty enough as it is. If they take away this money, I won’t have anything to look forward to in life.

Quite! I have made this point a lot, myself. It is only in the last 10-20 years that class sizes have grown bigger and bigger too.

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 18/03/2025 13:30

I will be 62 by the time my current award ends, if I am still alive by then.
Hopefully I will be left alone in that case but the anxiety about all this upheaval is crippling.
I really rely on my support worker and other paid help.
People assume that if you have stage 4 cancer you automatically get full Pip anyway but that is not true if, like me, you aren’t likely to die quite soon enough.
Unbelievable but true.
