Adult disability payment, what else?

I have been awarded enhanced for both the daily living and mobility components, a ten year award!

I am trying to decide whether to change the car to a mobility lease, it's a long wait and our car is newish anyway so not too sure yet. Don't qualify for a Blue Badge but I have applied for a disabled persons railcard and a bus pass, is there anything else I should/could be looking at?

Why don’t you qualify for a blue badge is it mental health? You can apply for a blue badge through your council with supporting evidence. Do you receive any other benefits?

You can have the car tax whether or not you use a lease car.

And there are loads of places you can take a free carer too, National Trust for example, some theatres, you often have to look at the individual places.

You need either 8 points in the 'moving around' section or 12 in 'planning and following a journey' - my enhanced is made up of 4 and 10

Ah, yes. I had read this but didn't register it because my brain is minced trying to work out whether to change cars.

DH is pension age so no carers. I don't know if I would get ESA, it's not something I'm ready for just yet though.

I had a blue badge before I claimed PIP.

The bus passes aren't a Scottish thing, I have one. Google free bus passes and put in your postcode.

So helpful for when I lost my licence.

Depending on the disability you can get free prescriptions.

Personally I'd never get involved with the car scheme, particularly as you already have a new ish car. Such a waste of money unless you need adaptations.

With pip I applied for and got free membership for gym and swimming at my local leisure centre, a CEA card (for cinema), an access card, national trust free carer card.

We have CDP for DD and I looked into the car scheme and car tax. Decided against both for many reasons. Main one being that legally if you take these then the car is solely for the named person's benefit. So if your DH would ever want to use your car alone for a purpose that wasn't to support you, then that's not allowed. We also had a relatively new car and decided better to have the money for DD and upkeep of car we had. In our Scottish LA blue badge is automatically approved if you get higher rate of mobility though, I didn't realise that wasn't the same everywhere. No suggestions of what other support for adults but following this for future knowledge for DD as she won't ever live independently.

This might have changed then because it's actually the government website you apply through and it asks how many points you get for each section of the mobility. The badge is issued by the council but the application is done through .gov - the only direct application our council have is for the severe mental impairment.

We are definitely going to be ordering a car, it's by far the cheapest option for us - DH no longer drives anyway so it would just be me.

I'm also interested in finding out as much as I can because youngest DD is unlikely to live independently

I'm at a bit of a stumbling block with it tbh and it makes absolutely no sense to me that I could be entitled to an enhanced award for 10 years yet still not get a BB.

We already get these in Scotland- I'm always surprised when I'm reminded others don't!

I would have loved a gym membership but unfortunately I'm not physically able for the gym or swimming anymore! The access card is an interesting one for me, i have always been dead against companies taking money from disabled people for nothing, I don't see what it offers that I can't get without it really. All it does is prove a disability, which I can do anyway. I will perhaps look into it further though. I am used to getting carers in free with just using the disabled persons paperwork - DD gets the CDP but previously DLA

Thanks to everyone for your pointers, it's been so much to take in as I was prepared to have to fight for a minimal award as I have heard so many awful stories about the PIP process, but this new system in Scotland is the polar opposite.

It is worth contacting your local citizens advice as they have a benefit review team as they will tell you if there is anything else you can claim.

I am surprised that you are not entitled to a blue badge. I would talk to them about this and they would help you appeal this decision

DD's blue badge came from the council, the fact she couldn't drive was the reason they awarded it (seizures)

I actually think seizures are one of the questions in the form before you get to the ones about your ADP award. I know it's issued by the council but you can't apply on their website unless it's severe mental impairment, the other click link takes you to .gov

The motability scheme is the least attractive it's been for years at the moment, with the shortage of cars meaning there are long waiting times and extortionate advance payments on many models. My husband has had a motability car for over 20 years, but is buying second hand this time, a two year old car, as having crunched the numbers it just isn't worth it on motability and he would have to fork out £4K on a non returnable advance payment.

Ok, I have just filled it out and it takes me to apply through the gov website as someone who doesn't automatically apply so I will be trying that.

When I went to the council website it just has 2 links, one for sever mental impairment and the other which took me to the .gov which said I don't automatic qualify.

This has been the most confusing thing in a time where my mind is absolutely racing but I'm getting there.
