Adult disability payment, what else?

I have been awarded enhanced for both the daily living and mobility components, a ten year award!

I am trying to decide whether to change the car to a mobility lease, it's a long wait and our car is newish anyway so not too sure yet. Don't qualify for a Blue Badge but I have applied for a disabled persons railcard and a bus pass, is there anything else I should/could be looking at?

@ohthehorrorthehorror

I have read so much about it from people recently who are having real problems. It will definitely be a cheaper than now solution for us, but I don't expect that to be long term tbh as I think there will be more changes coming. The car I have now is worth quite a bit though so it makes sense to sell it while we can.

Just to comment on the rules for a blue badge. They are different for DLA and PIP. With DLA High Rate mobility the blue badge is awarded. With PIP enhanced mobility it is not automatic, it depends on the descriptors awarded and it is often not awarded where an element of mental health is included.

The council have their own discretionary procedure and some are harsher than others

After reading on here about the bus pass I googled my local council. Apparently I am eligible to apply but have to download the application form which needs Microsoft Office to open 🙄

One step forward, another step back...

Regarding the blue badge this is something I was told, but don't quote me on it.

Its to help level the field between the disabled and able bodies. It might take a disabled person 50 steps before they are at the same point of tiredness/needing to sit down as an abled person walking 2 miles. Thats why all the spaces are nearer the shops as its for the physical side. Pip is for mental, confusion, hands not functioning, needing another person, etc as well as for the physical. Blue badge is for ability to walk, needing to sit, ability to breath, pain.

Hope that makes it a little clearer as to why pip doesn't automatically qualify you for blue badge.

DLA is for all of those things to and blue badge is also for people with mental health, needing another person etc. Though much harder to qualify for than physical.

I don't believe this to be particularly accurate as another 2 points in the 'planning a journey' section would have got me an automatic blue badge and that's nothing to do with physical walking ability.

Thats fine. It made sense to me more seeing it that way (as a layperson), but I also said don't quote me on how accurate it was as I'm not a benefits advisor.

My application is with the OT now so just waiting for the outcome. After I did the application on the gov website the council sent me another form which was very specific to walking and breathing ability but I am hopeful they will take into consideration both parts of the mobility award when they look at it.

Thanks for the advice

I have spoken to the OT on the phone and she said on paper it's a no but they will get me in for assessment. The appointment isn't until December though, she said their work load has massively increased now that you don't get an automatic BB for enhanced mobility.

In Scotland, anyone who gets the enhanced mobility component of adult disability payment is automatically entitled to a blue badge. Here are the Scottish government’s eligibility criteria.

”You will automatically get a Blue Badge if you:… get the enhanced mobility component of Adult Disability Payment and have been awarded either 8 points or more in the Moving Around activity or 12 points in the Planning and Following a Journey activity or enhanced rate mobility without reference to points

madnesss · 01/11/2022 09:13

@Thatsnotmycar

You are not automatically entitled at all though, the second paragraph you have posted is very clear that you must have a certain amount of points. 8 in moving around or 12 in planning a journey.

OP posts:
madnesss · 01/11/2022 09:14

The bottom part about 'without reference to points' is for people who have a long term awarded with no review date.

OP posts:
madnesss · 01/11/2022 09:17

I posted pics upthread of the form and it asks if you have a points section when you apply.

I do. So the 'without reference to points' part you have posted does not apply to me.

Apologies, I didn’t realise the adult disability payment was sometimes awarded without awarding points. I read it as being eligible for a blue badge if you got enhanced mobility regardless of what points you got.
