5 alive want to find out what you do during your 'me' time - if you're lucky enough to get any!

By 'me' time, we mean time to yourself away from children, partner or work, when you can let loose and have some fun. It doesn't matter if you don't get much 'me' time; we still want to know what you think. The survey is open to all Mumsnetters.

Please take a few minutes to complete this survey and enter your details for a chance to win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

AND, for another chance to enter the prize draw, please tell us all on this thread what you get up to in your 'me' time, whether it's playing air guitar to the radio, or going out for a muddy bike ride - you can 'fess up here .

Thanks and good luck

What a weird survey... it leads you to think that 'me' time is just you. Then asks who you share it with...? If your asking me how much me time I have a day that I share with my partner - umm 7.30 until about 10.30 every day, but thats not 'me' time.

And the shameless questions abotu what radio station you listen to i.e. 'tell us what radio station to advertise on' is just embarrassing. We're mums, we're not brain dead.

theyoungvisiter · 22/04/2010 22:05

what do you think they were hoping for with this survey?

Do you think they thought everyone would blindly choose a random response, so that they could do a series of ads along the lines of:

"14% of mad mums admit that they chill out by yodelling in the shower!" [cheesy photo of mum warbling tunelessly into an empty 5 alive bottle] shout line: feel 5 alive every day!

"11% of mums say that when they're alone they like nothing better than a secret boogie!" [photo of identikit mum doing the twist in her living room while chugging fruit juice]

Whereas instead we have all ticked "other" and written "slob out on the computer and hope the fecking kids don't wake up" - thus ruining the krazy kool image.

squeaver · 22/04/2010 22:08

Oh I'd love to be at the pass-the-blame meeting for this one...

squeaver · 22/04/2010 22:09

...although I'm a bit worried that Helen'll get the blame (sorry, Helen)

whomovedmychocolate · 22/04/2010 22:11

If me time is when there is no-one else around, my last me time was 2004 and I was stuck in a lift for two hours. And even then I had a man repeating regularly 'the service personnel have been dispatched, we will get to you within the hour, remain calm. Thank you for your patience' like an automaton.

Frankly I think this sort of solitude is overrated!

whomovedmychocolate · 22/04/2010 22:15

Helen@mumsnet this is nothing to do with you, it's a lame survey. Not your fault, if someone gave me money and a prize to post it up, I'd post it up. And I'm sure you warned them of our rambunctiousness before they signed the contract right?

I'm waiting for the washing powder survey which asks you what dirty laundry you'd air if you knew you could bleach it out with their dazzling whitening agents

lilgreendog · 22/04/2010 22:24

If I could get any 'me' time, I would paint my toenails turquoise :-)

Cherrybaby · 22/04/2010 22:37

Talk to my mum on the phone and drink tea.

How sad for a 25 year old!

BonzoDoodah · 22/04/2010 22:42

PMSL at theyoungvisiter

I dilute my 5 alive with gin and drink it under the table with a box of Daity Milk on hand.

BonzoDoodah · 22/04/2010 22:50
  • Dairy Milk .... [sighs at typing]
notcitrus · 22/04/2010 22:54

Bizarre survey, but hey, anything for a potential JL voucher!

Browse in bookshops followed by civilised afternoon tea. THen a hot bath and read new book.

Wongaling · 23/04/2010 08:37

When I get "me" time which for the past two years, has been barely one hour a day, I either ring a friend or read a book. The best thing about having children is that I've rediscovered "reading" again. When I was working full time, I read a book a year. Now, I average more than one a month. So you see, there are some advantages to that "luxury" "me" time.

Threelittleducks · 23/04/2010 09:24

I sing. Loudly. At the top of my voice. And pretend I have an audience. It makes me feel better

Hummymummy · 23/04/2010 09:37

Shopping, shopping and more shopping - clothes or house type stuff, not the food kind!

Alternatively, jewellery making or jogging.

Nurmle · 23/04/2010 09:45

Am I the only person that turns up Heart radio (not so loud as to wake 6mth DS) and dances about in the kitchen while stuffing reusable nappies...oh yeah I guess doing a baby task at the same time isn't 'me' time. I used to go partner dancing (jive/salsa) pre-DS so dancing with the door frame to old school music is my guilty secret.
Seriously though that's hardly everyday barley once a month, I agree with posts so far. There is very little me time with a LO, any alone time is spent washing, tidying, cooking, trying desperately to eat before he wakes up again!

sthgil · 23/04/2010 09:53

Go on the internet and plan trips out

Botbot · 23/04/2010 12:28

I dutifully ticked '9?10pm' and typed 'watch telly or surf internet', then realised that's not the sort of thing they wanted me to put at all. Then I gave up. Am clearly not wacky enough for Five Alive.

melandtony · 23/04/2010 12:36

put my music on (loud) , get my secret sweet supply out and look round the cumputer without anyone on my shoulder whating to get on it or screaming.......... "mum"

AggiePanther · 23/04/2010 12:49

Phew I'm not alone in collapsing on the sofa and drinking Gin then - Was beginning to feel a failure when I read their list of activities ...much preferred WMMC's survey. Could we have the results in a day or two?

cyteen · 23/04/2010 13:05

I did tick some of the proffered responses, because I'm feeling very lazy. But then I thought I should be more honest and wrote 'mentally rehearse the complete verbal devastation of my enemies' in the 'Other' box.

So, for my chance to win the extra JL voucher: that. When I'm not doing that, I like to read a book, watch a film or visit the allotment (childcare permitting).

AggiePanther · 23/04/2010 13:13

Has anybody seen the terms & conditions for this competition? They describe it as a 'prize draw' so that means it doesn't matter what your response is....just as well really

Botbot · 23/04/2010 13:39

doh. have just realised there is a whole thread saying the same thing.

Lorelai · 23/04/2010 13:41

Haven't read the whole thread, so am probably repeating, but a lovely HOT bubble bath with trashy chick lit

rileyjdw · 23/04/2010 14:39

swim - or have a big cuppa and a large and calorie laden baked item!

Takora · 23/04/2010 15:01

I wash my hair or light some candles, put on some relaxing music and try not to fall asleep in the bath. At the weekend, if dh is around I sometimes meet up with pre-baby friends for lunch and try to have a conversAtion without mentioning nappies or routines!
