At the moment Smart Motorways are followed by a rant in our house.

I have actually said I won’t go up North until the whole sorry mess is finished.

55 miles of roadworks. Usually moving at 15 mph adding hours to the drive.

I am not the only one. Dp was chatting to a friend about driving up the M1 as he has family up north.

He is refusing to do the drive this year and next till it is finished.

weird questions about Highways England. How on earth am I supposed to know if the company is well run or reaching their targets!!

About pets v. children when broken down.

I am guessing that they assume that if you take yourself out of the car for safety you will take your kids.

I am guessing that you should NOT take your pets, in case they get loose and run all over the road.

poppyseed2 · 30/11/2018 06:58

Done.

I have often though about what to do if I breakdown without a hard shoulder while seeing the smart motorway signs, but then the moment is gone and I don't try to find out.

Oliversmumsarmy · 30/11/2018 11:35

At the moment the continuous roadworks of 55miles+ till something like 2022 is ridiculous and making it near impossible to drive up north.

I have had enough took around 5.5 hours each way to go to Wolverhampton is ridiculous.

Added to that there were no real hold ups but for the travelling at 15mph on the stretch of motorways that are being changed to smart motorways.

Why change huge stretches at a time. Why not do 10miles then move on to the next 10 miles.

Mumof1winginglife

Waiting to happen.

I have used it whilst on a long journey and think it is an ongoing disaster.

And I am not alone

I don’t like smart motorways at all, I think they are very dangerous and try and avoid them.

Well that showed me I have v little knowledge of smart motorways. I’ve been on one twice, and found it sooo stressful trying to keep to the changing speed limits. It definitely affected my concentration levels because I was so concerned about speed and getting a ticket/points

I know I should get out of the car if I break down but s I have a disability that's not always possible, but there was no where to put that information.

Ammari515253 · 03/12/2018 17:47

Interesting survey, I'd be interested to know the results!
