Hello

We are working with Women’s Aid and Surrey police to find out more about Mumsnet users’ knowledge and experience of coercive control and the behaviours associated with it. We will use the results of this survey in our awareness-raising campaign, on Mumsnet and beyond.

This survey is open to all UK Mumsnet users.

Please be aware that many of the questions will refer to these behaviours and abuse. If this is triggering or makes you feel uncomfortable then, of course, there is no obligation at all to fill out the survey.

If you have been affected by any of the issues raised by this survey, you can contact the 24 hour National Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247 (run in partnership between Women's Aid and Refuge) for help and support. For information online, you can go to: www.womensaid.org.uk

If you are worried about someone seeing what you have been doing online, use a different computer, either at a local library, internet cafe, at a friend's house or at work. Please see information on covering your tracks online here: www.womensaid.org.uk/cover-your-tracks-online

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw

Done - not a nice survey.
Feeling lots of love for my lovely dh right now.

NightmareDaemon · 20/10/2018 21:21

One thing missing from the survey is whether the controlling partner has threatened suicide to control you.

Budgieinaberet · 20/10/2018 23:47

I agree Nightmare.
I don't want to identify in any way a person who is going through this at the moment. I will just call them X.
X's partner allegedly attempted suicide last year
X's partner is controlling.
X's partner doesn't understand coersive control
X thinks because they haven't been hit then it's not DV
I despair

Good point Nightmare.

Done. Agree, not a pleasant survey to complete.

FreiasBathtub · 31/10/2018 09:26

Done. I've been v lucky and lived a v sheltered life, MN has really opened my eyes to the kind of shit some women have to live with and reading about their experiences (and especially seeing how they find those experiences 'normal') has made me feel much more strongly about the importance of DV support, refuges, misogyny as a hate crime etc. I'm really grateful to all the women on MN who share their stories and give advice, I think without them I would not really understand the toxicity of some men in relationships and all the ways that this can manifest itself. (Would have liked to say all this in the survey but couldn't find the right place!)
