We've been asked to find out about Mumsnetters' opinions on Inheritance Tax.

Please take a few minutes to fill this survey and you will be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter or Gransnetter will win a £100 John Lewis voucher.

This survey is open to UK Mumsnetters aged 50 and over.

Here, here Hedges Smile

lionheart · 21/09/2016 00:20

To clarify, I didn't say wants to inherit.

Topanga1 · 22/09/2016 02:50

Why are you only asking people over the age of 50?

Hedgesinthewind · 22/09/2016 08:36

lionheart never thought you did! Apologies if it came across differently.

Although it seemed to me, doing the survey, that it was skewed quite unscientifically towards the mindset of resenting IHT for taking away inheritances

lionheart · 22/09/2016 10:09

Hedges. Smile I am kind of stuck in the middle because I have been asked to help elderly relatives with information or contacts (What does the law say? Is there a solicitor who can help protect my money? I don't want my savings to go on a care home, I would rather die so you can have the money). It is hard.

Yes (my mother talks about simply stopping eating). My answer to that is to say that I want her to live well first of all. And pour her another glass of champagne (yes, I really do!) And then I tell her that she gave us all a good start in life, we're all well off, and we want to see her comfortable first and last.

KatherineMumsnet · 22/09/2016 13:16

Hi @Topanga1,

This is because it's a Gransnet survey, which we've opened up to Mumsnet users aged 50+ to mirror the Gransnet demographic.

Topanga1 · 22/09/2016 13:44

Katherine

You mean you didn't get enough responses on Gransnet so you're trying to get more from MN.

But why the starting age of 50? Plenty of women are grandparents in their 40s. And many of us 50 year olds are parents to young children. Why not just ask everyone for their thoughts on IHT?

KatherineMumsnet · 22/09/2016 15:26

Thanks for your feedback, Topanga1, I'll pass it on to the team. The survey idea originated from the Gransnet team, so we launched it on both Mumsnet and Gransnet, with a view to gathering responses from the over 50s from both sites.

dailymaillazyjournos · 22/09/2016 22:08

done

Topanga1 · 23/09/2016 06:36

But I don't understand why you think this is only relevant to over 50s ...

lionheart · 24/09/2016 08:10

I might try your technique next time, Wrong. Wink

IamNotDarling · 24/09/2016 20:32

Who's asking the questions?

FinallyHere · 25/09/2016 09:35

While I appreciate that the questions were relevant regardless of age, it was a pleasure to find so many responses here, meaning that I am not alone as an over-50 on MN.

WrongEndoftheTelescope · 25/09/2016 12:31

Who's asking the questions?

Indeed. Could MN Towers answer that, please?

Topanga1 · 25/09/2016 16:11

FinallyHere - there's are tons of us. Alas, MN want us to bigger off the Gransnet Grin

WrongEndoftheTelescope · 25/09/2016 17:16

What if we're not grandmothers? Or don't own any beige clothing?

LunaWeaselton · 25/09/2016 18:55

Done

Hi all

We don't have any ulterior motives here, honest guv. This survey is purely coming from GNHQ with a bit of help from MNHQ - there are no external organisations or interests involved and we're not trying to procure a particular result.

The aim is to get a fair picture of what the core Gransnet demographic thinks about IHT, in terms of their own grandchildren and children & in terms of their own parents if they are still alive. So the age limit we've put on it is purely that - a reflection of the typical Gransnet age range. Obviously people of all ages have opinions about IHT one way or the other and we may well revisit the topic in the future to get the views of other age groups.

We know there are lots of 50-somethings on MN and believe us they are extremely welcome and we're v grateful to have you all (and we do know that your life circumstances are diverse!).
