I've done it - but I couldn't answer this question with anything other than a 'don't know' because I didn't understand it:

"I think the Government should change Inheritance Tax so that more is taken from less rich estates than under the present rules (ie the Inheritance Tax threshold should be reduced)"

What on earth does this mean?!

BIWI. Yes, I took it to mean that the point at which it kicks in is lower (the threshold is reduced).

done - yes that question means reducing the threshold so that less wealthy people also pay IHT.

Completed. Although I did consider as I was doing so that dh would complete it very differently to me: he's paranoid about having money to leave ds/support ds when he is an adult whereas my view is that our job as parents is to being him up to be self-sufficient.

Done. But it struck me that it's a survey to provide "evidence" to support the lifting of the IHT threshold. All the qq seemed designed to stir up rage against IHT, and stop the Government wrenching hard-earned assets from our poor unprotected grannies.

Which is rubbish.

I think it assumes that anyone over 50 has one foot in the grave and is therefore primarily concerned about their own children rather than that they might be considering these issues and questions from the perspective of someone who might inherit from elderly parents.

Done. I agree about it being a shoddy survey (and grammatically appalling).

I may inherit from my parents, but I don't count on it. I'd far rather they spent their money having a comfortable old age. And if that means selling their house when/if they ever need to go into care, well - so be it. I don't see why other taxpayers should underwrite any "my" inheritance.
