Itax headlice treatment feedback

carriemumsnet · 08/10/2008 14:05

Hi all

Thanks to everyone who volunteered to test out Itax a new non-chemical programme of head lice lotion spray (2 treatments per bottle RRP £11.99) and soothing 'anti-itching' shampoo (150ml RRP £9.99).

If you weren't one of the volunteers for the product trial, but have already bought and used Itax, please feel free to add your thoughts too.

So, what did you think of it? What was it like to use and did it work? How did it compare to other nit treatments you had used (if any) ?

Everyone who offers feedback will be entered into a prize draw to win Avène Sensitive skincare products for adults and Klorane hair products for children worth over £50.

It's Ok. You can stop scratching now

Put first application of Itax on both my dds on Saturday, after finding one nit each on them.

I liked the spray action as it was very easy to coat the hair and scalp and covered well. We all quite liked the smell - they both said there was no stinging or discomfort.

An hour later I combed out using a nitty gritty. I found combing through harder than usual - usually I'd use conditioner and it's very easy. Both my girls have long hair, one long and thick, the other long and wavy, so getting a nitty gritty comb through is always hard, and this made it harder as the hair wasn't slippery. I found some eggs and a few very small nits which were all dead. I found the next day that it's left their hair very dry, especially then ends, we used the shampoo the next day which was good and hair in much better condition today.

Overall - we have big problem with nits in dds school and have had so many infestations - i'm finding just combing isn't doing it, so if this breaks the cycle then I would consider buying it in the future.

I tried it on my daughter, who has long hair, and lice(!). I was really careful to coat her hair with the product, and left it a couple of hours, rather than the hour. However when combing, not all of them were dead.

It was easy to use. We liked the smell of the shampoo.

I prefer Hedrin, which seems to kill them.

Well since one of mine came home with nits a couple of weeks ago i can now add my review!

My dd has very long hair and I found itax really easy to apply and didn't take too long. I actually quite liked the smell compared to other lotions and thought it smelt of vodka!

After I went through with my nit comb (was I meant to recieve one as I didn't?) and got out around a dozen nits and very very large louse which was definitely deceased!

All was well until just 2 days later another live louse was found. I used just conditioner this time and got it out and really couldn't find any more.

I treated with the lotion a week after the original application and again nothing was found. It's a week on and she's still clear! Hurrah!

Would I use it again? If I found live lice then yes. Would I recommend it? I already have as I like the fact it's pesticide free.

Well both DS and DSS needed this over the weekend and i was very greatful to have it in the cupboard!

When i read the instructions, when i first got it seemed like there was a lot to do with having to wash their hair in the shampoo and having to reuse it, but when i got it out and used it it was very simple to use.

The smell took me back to years of having simlair stuff on my head and my mum yanking the metal nit comb through my hair threating to have it all cut off if i came homme with nits again.

Any live ones that where in their hair where dead/ moving very slowly by the time i came to pull the nit comb through, (hopefully not as rough as my mother used to).

Their hair is very soft after using the shampoo and has a nice smell to it too and i have been checking everyday and so far so good no reacurring outbrakes as of yet.

So over all im very pleased and would happily use it again.

Thank you.

seemed to work ok but really chemically smell, easier to wash out than full marks though! the shampoo was good and left the DDs hair soft and pretty tangle free - she has super thick hair

Well, a little late, but finally we've been able to use the Itax, surprisingly on ds2 rather than dd. I noticed him scratching, so investigated and sure enough found the offending creatures. I found the spray very easy to use, although quite a strong smell which ds didn't like much. That said, it went on easily, was quite oily and an hour or so later we washed it out. The shampoo was very nice and left his hair very feeling very soft and shiny. All the lice we removed were dead (makes a pleasant change) and we'll repeat in a week to make sure we're well rid. Many thanks. I actually think it's a good product (so far) and I'm usually of the conditioning and combing bug busting brigade!!

Only just had to use this but thought I'd put in my feedback even if it is so late!

I would say it was a great product for DSS who has short, quite course hair. The spray was hassle free and it didn't take long to apply. He usually hates the feeling of cold lotion on his scalp but there was none of this with Itax. He did coplain about the smell though, but you can't have everything!

It wasn't really suitable for DSD2 though. She has very thick, frizzy hair (mixed race). I don't think there was really enough in the bottle to cover her hair completly, and after and hour it seemed to have dried out her hair making it impossible to get a nit comb (or any other kind of brush) through it before washing! The shampoo was ok, but had to use a lot of it as it also tangled her hair. Ended up resorting to the huge amounts of conditioner and nit comb method. I think Itax did kill some of the lice but there were definatly some still alive.

Remembered about this feedback thread. It's been so long I've changed my name However, being inspired by the moisturiser thread I am doing the feedback now!

Amazingly, I used the lotion about 4 months ago (it was still in date!)

It took ages to spray on to cover the hair and even once washed the hair looked very greasy afterwards. The smell was actually very strong, enough to put me off getting it again.

However, it did the trick............
