Skinbliss Product Test - Feedback

AnnMumsnet · 01/09/2008 17:40

A big thank you to all Mumsnetters who agreed to take part in the Imperial Leather Skinbliss product testing. We hope you enjoyed using it.

What we'd really value now is your feedback about the product. So.....

  • Did you love or hate it?
  • What you did like or dislike about it?
  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?
  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims [Skinbliss replenishes the natural oils in your skin, leaving it soft and moisturised. It contains an ultra-mild cleanser that's gentle enough for daily use. Its unique formula has 50% moisturising ingredients, proven to increase skin hydration, elasticity and stimulate natural skin lipid production?]?

If you've got any other comments (positive or negative) please include these in your post.

Or if you have any additional questions, post them here and we'll try and get a response.

Remember everyone who tests the product and provides feedback on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where 5 Mumsnetters will win a year's supply of Skinbliss.

Thanks again
MNHQ and Skinbliss

So.....

  • Did you love or hate it?

Thought it was fine - nothing "amazing" but no problems with it

  • What you did like or dislike about it?

I liked the fragrance although it didn't really last after showering. I actually found it a little bit less moisturising than some shower creams I use.

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?

Sounds fine

  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims [Skinbliss replenishes the natural oils in your skin, leaving it soft and moisturised. I didn't find it very moisturising -I still had to use body lotion after to avoid the scaly leg look. Don't think it increased skin hydration.

So - nice smell, ok price, would be happy to use it again but it isn't a miracle worker

wingandprayer · 04/09/2008 19:34
  • Did you love or hate it?

I thought it was OK. Love or hate a bit strong.

  • What you did like or dislike about it?

I thought the smell was a bit cloying - it's that generic "spa product" smell that Virgin Vie etc seem to use for loads of their products. Not something I would choose normally. It doesn't lather brilliantly, and I have soft water. However, it had nice texture, it didn't dry skin out, the smell didn't linger and it did make my skin feel nice and clean.

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?

I think it's good value for money - haven't found anything better for less.

  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims

Not really but to be fair I ahve quite dry skin. I did feel nice and soft immediately after show, but softness quickly wore off and returned to normal.

For all of the above I would buy it again for what it's worth, especially if it was available with another fragrance. I haven't found anything better at that price point for every day use.

auntyquated · 04/09/2008 19:40
  • Did you love or hate it?

quite liked it

  • What you did like or dislike about it?

liked the smell
liked the effect it had on my legs

didn't like the fact that if you just use your hands is doesn't lather up well (soft water here too). for a good lather you need on eof those scrubby things

didn't like the fact that it doesn't hang up. i usually use radox for this reason

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?

ok price i think

  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims

yes. skin feels loads softer, particularly on my legs, they look loads better too

TheProvincialLady · 05/09/2008 08:40

I think £2.48 is good value for money.

At first I really hated the smell, so much that I wasn't looking forward to trying it. If I had been sniffing in a shop I would not have bought it. But when I did use it I didn't mind the smell so much, although it isn't my favourite kind of perfume - I prefer more natural perfumes I suppose.

It certainly moisturises my skin, more than the expensive stuff I was given for Christmas! My pregnancy bump has been less itchy and my legs feel smoother when they had got quite dry. For that reason alone I will carry on using this skinbliss...not sure I would buy it though. Probably not, unless there is a different scent type?

Overall, I don't love or hate it. I like the moisturising properties but the smell puts me off too much.

Thanks very much again for letting me try it.

PussinJimmyChoos · 05/09/2008 12:43
  • Did you love or hate it?

I didn't hate it as such but wasn't very keen

  • What you did like or dislike about it?
The smell was awful - like stuff old grannies would use to lather up with!

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money? Good value

  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims [Skinbliss replenishes the natural oils in your skin, leaving it soft and moisturised. I wouldn't say my skin felt any softer than normal and I actually prefer the way it feels after I've used my normal shower gel (Johnsons ph 5.5) rather than this one

Additional Comments - change the scent - its really overpowering and its not a that great of a scent to be smelling on your skin during the day

NicolaSkinbliss · 05/09/2008 12:51

Thanks again
Skinbliss

SoupDragon · 05/09/2008 12:56

I've got the one with exotic Monoi oil.

  • Did you love or hate it? Neither really. It does the job.
  • What you did like or dislike about it? I didn't like the smell
  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money? Um, I don't know actually as I don't know how much shower gel usually costs - I don't look at the price!
Yes, I think my skin was softer afterwards - I have a drying out sun tan at the moment and my skin seems less flakey
SoupDragon · 05/09/2008 12:57

Oh, didn't like the fact that it doesn't hang up either!

Lathered fine here with a scrubby thing and the water here is hard. I always use a scrubby thing anyway.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 05/09/2008 20:43

Did you love or hate it? - I did really like it and so did DH . We both think it made our skin softer - we normally use body cream containing urea and as this is in Skinbliss it was like getting an additional dose of body cream but with very little extra effort.

  • What you did like or dislike about it? I loved the creaminess but found the Monoi fragrance too strong, the first few times I used it, it gave me a headache. I would probably prefer one of the other 'flvours'.

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money? -Fairly good value as it contains Urea which really helps with dry skin.

- Yes overall it did live up to the claims, I do have really dry skin so I couldn't rely on it alone but it did help and I didn't have any reactions (I have sensitive skin) - my only real criticism would be that the fragrance was a bit too strong.

Mamazon · 06/09/2008 00:00
  • Did you love or hate it?

I loved it. It smelt nice without being too scented. It left my skin very soft, i didn't need to moisturise after a shower.

  • What you did like or dislike about it?
    all of th eabove

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?
I think it is a pretty typical amount. i would think any less to be a bargain tbh.

  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims [Skinbliss replenishes the natural oils in your skin, leaving it soft and moisturised. I did. as i said earlier, whilst i was using it (its run out now...do i get some more? [wink) i didn't need to use a seperate moisturiser after about the 3rd day. my legs felt a lot smoother.

Mamazon · 06/09/2008 00:01

oh i had the cocoon one.

foofi · 06/09/2008 11:22
  • Did you love or hate it? Hate it.
  • What you did like or dislike about it? The smell, the colour of the bottle, didn't feel good after using it.
  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money? Good, if you like it.
  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims [Skinbliss replenishes the natural oils in your skin, leaving it soft and moisturised. No, I don't think it left the skin soft and moisturised.
Mamazon · 06/09/2008 11:25

  • Did you love or hate it?

I love it. At first I disliked the smell (It REALLY reminds me of a perfume but can't figure what - poison, oscar de la rente... can't rememebr!) however it grew on me

  • What you did like or dislike about it?
I loved the way I could get into bed and smell it and feel really soft for ages.

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?

Sounds good

  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims [Skinbliss replenishes the natural oils in your skin, leaving it soft and moisturised. Yes fair enough. Smell didn't really smell natural enough to emphasise that though

If you've got any other comments (positive or negative) please include these in your post.

I liked the packaging too (pink one?).

lunavix · 08/09/2008 22:39

Actually a friend bought the same one - turned up in my bathroom to say 'ooooh I saw that and bought it too' and she loved the packaging (pink one)

haven't seen the others in any shops but would love to try them.

sweetgrapes · 09/09/2008 10:03
  • Did you love or hate it?

It was nice but not LOVE.

  • What you did like or dislike about it?
    The fragrance was too strong.

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?
On BOGOF yes. Otherwise less than £2 would be fine.

  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims [Skinbliss replenishes the natural oils in your skin, leaving it soft and moisturised. Skin felt much nicer and smoother.

friendlyedjit · 09/09/2008 11:36

Thank you for sending me the Glow" bottle.
I thought it was a reasonable product, and has a place in market.

It went on not in a dissimilar fashion to an emollient which was good.

I didn't like the artificiality of the "glow" whilst in shower but smelt much better when left shower.
The price is what I would expect.

It was for a shower product in comparison to many others on the shelves reasonably moisturising. Increasing skin elasticity or natural lipid production is not unique to this product as using most emollients will do this.

Sometimes it would be nice to have a bottle with fewer claims-
"helps skin dryness with regular use" would have been enough for me to try something without all the other jargon.
~Or "May decrease need for moisturising for those with dry skin" or in combination with.

For normal skin this is a good non drying product.
For dry skin it is certainly better than using many of the other shower products, but may not be quite enough.

friendlyedjit · 09/09/2008 11:43

P.S.
My showering gals loved it fragrance and the packaging!

beansprout · 10/09/2008 09:51

I tried the Cocoon version.

I like it, it certainly made my skin feel softer and smoother. That said, I always use cream when I get out of the shower so I don't (and would not) rely on a shower gel to do this for me. Still, every little helps!!

The thing that I really, really didn't like though was the smell, which was awful. It smelt like a product my mum would use (she is in her late 60s) and, to make matters worse, the smell was really strong so there was no getting away from it. I don't want to smell that in the shower and I certainly don't want to smell of it during the day. As such, this product would not pass the sniff test in the shop and I would not buy it, no matter how much it retailed for. My own preference is for more natural smells, or at least something more subtle.

Further (perhaps TMI), I did not want to use this product on my bits, as the smell was so strong I was concerned it would trigger some sort of reaction!!

I live in a hard water area, so it did not really lather up but that does not concern me.

The packaging is rather old fashioned too and would not attract me if I saw it in a shop.

roquefortlover · 10/09/2008 14:50
  • Did you love or hate it?

I love it. I had the white one - cocoon - and it's great - the scent is quite strong but I found it became subtle on the skin

  • What you did like or dislike about it?

I loved the way it lathered up, really rich and creamy. The scent lingered nicely and it made my skin very soft without using moisturiser. Great for shaving too!

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?

I would buy it - it feels quite luxurious to me for that price.

  • Did you find the product lived up to its claims [Skinbliss replenishes the natural oils in your skin, leaving it soft and moisturised. Yes. I am always in a rush - and lazy - so never moisturise after bath/shower and really noticed a difference using this product.

SalLikesCoffee · 10/09/2008 14:55
  • Did you love or hate it?

More love than hate, but not an all-time favourite.

  • What you did like or dislike about it?
The fragrance was way too strong.

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?
Ok value for money, but if there was something more subtle under £3 I'd rather go for that. If they kept the price under £2 it would be a better seller imo.

It wasn't drying (except on my face which I stupidly tried it on one night...), but not really moisturing either. It could just be my skin being too sensitive about the strong perfume though.

Klaw · 10/09/2008 16:51
  • Did you love or hate it? I quite liked it

  • What you did like or dislike about it?

I quite like the smell, it was creamy and lathered up well with my scrunchy in my soft Scottish water. I did not like that it's not Ph balanced.

  • Skin Bliss would usually sell for around £2.48. Do you think this sounds like good or poor value for money?

Probably reasonable

Well, I didn't notice much difference in my skin....

If you've got any other comments (positive or negative) please include these in your post.

I would REALLY like to see more eco products on the market, without chemicals etc. I am moving towards products using essential oils and natural cleaning substances, with no parabens etc. Would Imperial Leather consider being more ethical?
