Hi all

This is the meeting point for the feedback session with Dyson's engineers on Monday March 10th at 1pm. We hope everyone who has been testing a new Dyson will join us. If for any reason you can't make it please feel free to post your feedback in advance (and send the absence note from your mum to MNHQ ) but we're really hoping for an interactive discussion session, so we hope as many as possible of you will be there on the day.

Thanks!

Soapbox

DC25 all floor.

  1. How did you find the out-of-the box experience and assembling the machine? Not too bad, although it took me ages to work out how the pipe bit fixed onto the machine.

  1. Did you use the instruction manual? Yes, but there were just a load of rather imprecise pictures in it. It really wasn't terribly helpful.

  1. How did you find the following:

a. Bin emptying - fine
b. Attachments: did you use them? - yes. Could do with a larger brush attachment
c. Filters: locate them OK? - yes
d. Manoeuvrability: get around furniture? Not very impressed - the ball makes it rather cumbersome to move around and prevents it from getting under low tables and sofas like my usual vacuum does.
e. Cleaning stairs? - Ok, although it was quite heavy to carry around. The idea of the flexible hose bit was good, but there needed to be a proper brush attachement for the stairs rather than the velvet thing. I found the very small brush did a fantastic job of cleaning the bit where the carpet joins the skirting board, although this was too small to clean the whole of the stairs.

  1. How does it compare to your current machine? Much less manouverable.

  1. Where did you store your machine? If possible: can you send a picture of your Dyson in its new home? Under the stairs.

  1. Best thing? Great suction power. Best at quick cleaning of acreas of carpet!

  1. Anything that you would change? Yes - the retractable solid bit that comes out of the hose appears to be either fully out or fully in! This made it a little difficult to use when hoovering out the car, where having the hose out with a small bit of the solid bit would have been much better. I generally found that the hose bit was pretty unfriendly to use. It really wasn't anywhere near flexible enough and the idea of being able to have it some distance (as in the marketing literate) was far, far from the truth!

  1. One addition you would make if you were a Dyson engineer? Littlelapin's retractable lead is the biggest missing feature.

wannabe - I'm the same - my upstairs was vacuumed far too infrequently - but it's being done on a regular basis now

Dh would love to try it out in the car, but we have to park in a car park and no electrical supply nearby.

I don't think you even need an instruction manual, it's very simple.

But I do get cross with the lead length, as with the older one I oculd just about do dds' rooms without unplugging it.

However, I love the head for the animal hair (and mine, and the dds!!), and found it really picks it all up.

FAQ.

Hi there, tom here using Ben's log in as mine is not working. Your comment on wanting a longer lead length. It seems pretty unanimous that you all want a longer lead. We have looked into it in the past and decided against it for these products to keep the weight down. Looks like we need to re-think though. How many of you want more?

tom

the only issue I would have with having extra bits of hose would be where to store them, if you had them as attachments on the machine the look of the machine would change, ie with bits of hose attached all round might look les ... attractive?

  1. How did you find the out-of-the box experience and assembling the machine?

easy once i found the instructions strapped to the Dyson!! Duh!
  1. Did you use the instruction manual?

yes, easy to follow illustrations.
  1. How did you find the following:

a. Bin emptying: quite difficult to release the bottom.
b. Attachments: did you use them? the long thin one and also the littel one for the stairs.
c. Filters: locate them OK? yes
d. Manoeuvrability: get around furniture? yes, so much better than uprights in my opinion.
e. Cleaning stairs? excellent as stood well on the stairs unlike my other.
  1. How does it compare to your current machine?

much better though this one suits me more for animal hair as my other dyson was not an animal. and the other hoover tended to lift my carpet instead of cleaning ifyou know what i mean.
  1. Where did you store your machine? If possible: can you send a picture of your Dyson in its new home?

would send a pic but it sits in full view in my living room as a) no cupboard to put in and b) use every day.
  1. Best thing?

Suction is the best yet.
  1. Anything that you would change?

sometimes it is hard to get the click for the extender.
  1. One addition you would make if you were a Dyson engineer?

something to help push the dust out the cylinder as i still have to poke around in there to get the last bit out.

i also found that when opening the extender there was dust all up it. is this jsut me being pedantic??

sorry i am late as was finding it hard to log on!

I don't mind too much but it would be a bit better with a longer lead

Well we live in a new 2 double bedroom 3 bathroom house & i find the lead length just that bit to short to get all the way to the end of the hall & into the kicthen downstairs, so longer lead would be great here!

no def don't need to have an instruction manual.

if I can do it without, then anyone can - do it with their eyes closed, as it were. .

RTKanga:
Thanks for all your comments. It's really appreciated.
On the footpedal, we have to make the action quite positive to make sure that the machine cant fall over accidentally if it's not pushed fully upright. I do think we could make it a bit smoother though.

RTKangaDYSONMummy · 10/03/2008 13:24

Yes I can see that the foot pedal needs to be strong and it is a huge improvement on the DC15 but I am glad you may be making it a smoother movement

On the hose extension, how much more do you need?

tom.

Report
bogie · 10/03/2008 13:24

I think longer hose would be better than longer lead too

Report
bogie · 10/03/2008 13:25

If it wraped around once more on the dc23 it would be long enough i think

TBH Ben - I think part of my problem is that I got an upright but am used to a cylinder which makes comparison with my usual vacuum cleaner difficult.

I am not totally disappointed with it - we have a large house and the upstairs is fully carpeted and the DC25 makes very very quick work over large areas of carpet, where there is little need to manouver around smaller bits of furniture. It has actually lived upstairs for the last week as it has been so useful there.

My current cleaner is the Miele Solution HEPA5280 Bagged Cylinder Cleaner.

I really don't have a problem with hose length (just compared the Dyson with my ancient vacuum and my old one had a longer hose!).
