This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who have been testing LiquidNano’s SteriWipes, antibacterial wipes powered through nanotechnology leaving surfaces protected against 181 bacteria and viruses for 7 days from just one application.

Here’s what LiquidNano has to say: “LiquidNano is a smart coatings business with existing products for the mobile, marine, automotive and textile sectors. We are about to launch a new product called SteriWipe which is aimed at protecting high touch household surfaces like: door handles, children's toys, mobiles, tablets, high chairs, game controllers, etc. Once a surface is protected with SteriWipe an invisible layer of LiquidNano is left on the surface which not only kills any existing pathogens but will continue to kill any new pathogens that come into contact with the surface for a further 7 days without the need to re apply.”

Door handles, light switches and mobile phones. They were good for all of these high touch point places which can harbour germs.

Small and a bit fiddly to use. Not great for large surface but good for small area/surface.

Because there is no sign that you have done anything my innate scepticism means I am not entirely convinced that they are doing anything, so no - no real peace of mind. If there was some way of checking it was there it would improve confidence levels.

Depends entirely on the price pony and whether there was some way of evidencing their effect both for me to buy, and for me to recommend.

Good to try them, but working in primary care and dealing with infection control all the time I couldn't rely on these for workplace IPC on the basis of the info and statements provided.

Good, little bit small - was a little bit fiddly using them on some things

I used on my phone, keys, steering wheel, gear stick, hand brake, car handles, seat belt clip, front door handle, toilet door handles/locks, and toilet flush. As these are the things I'm likely to handle without thinking about what I've touched before.

1. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes? Very small but mighty. They had quite a strong smell which I expected, I'm sensitive to smells and these were not as bad as some anti bacterial products.

They are very small which helped my guilt over using a single use item. I felt like I could easily switch it into my cleaning schedule with confidence that I no longer have to wipe down so frequently, the items listed above.

Yes, I found them ideal to carry around in my purse. They stayed wet and whole to cover the items listed above so I can't find any reason not to recommend.

I found the smell of alcohol/ethanol extremely strong, it hit me as soon as I opened the packet & lingered for a good while.
They were convenient to use on smaller areas - light switches, door handles, etc, handy to use on phone & very effective at cleaning the computer keyboard.

I did feel reassured by the products claim that it would not only destroy existing pathogens, but also any new pathogens which came into contact with surface over next 7 days. It's not a claim I have seen before, & seems ideal in the current pandemic.
4. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?
Unfortunately, despite the reassurance they offer in destroying pathogens, I found the smell of alcohol really put me off so I wouldn't buy them again.

I used them on the tablet, cupboard handles, baby changing mat, TV remote and toilet training seats. They are more suited to the smaller items as they're only small themselves but I liked the idea of the lasting protection on the changing mat and toilet seat.

They're very small, like alcohol wipes but useful to have in. I deliberately used them on the kitchen cupboard handles without cleaning them normally first to see how they'd do with a little bit of dirt and I was impressed they cut straight through it. It's also worth mentioning that I have eczema on my hands and using these did not worsen it.

3. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

I really like the idea of the protective coating for things like the toilet training seats which are obviously exposed to nasties and also regularly touched by little hands. They just need to be a bit bigger for items like that. If these were available in a larger size, I would buy both sizes for using on different items.

As long as the price is reasonable, I would both buy and recommend these.

They were absolutely tiny so really just useful for TV controls, xbox remote, phones and keys. I do think they were useful for these things though, we also used them on the front door knob.

Too tiny to really tell how I feel, but they didn't smell too strong and I think they did the job.

I couldn't say either way, they said they provide 7 day protection which is good for mobile phones as I use mine at work in a healthcare setting and don't want to bring germs home in this current climate.

I don't think I would, not sure how much they'd cost but I usually just give things a wipe with an antibac cloth. I'd maybe buy them for my phone and keys whilst the virus is ongoing.

Most useful for areas I need wiping quickly and didn’t want to or couldn’t take along a spray bottle and cloth. Perfect for handles, doorbell and supermarket trolley handles.

Easy to use and simple. Loved the ‘wipe and forget’ possibilities. Perfect for popping in your pocket/bag and using when out and about. Absolutely loved the convenience of having them in a wipe format.

They were so easy to use and definitely gave me the peace of mind that I wanted from a product. I’m not sure I would feel protected for 7 days but great for easing worries like ‘did I wipe it already’.

If they were not too expensive then I would definitely use again. As a CEV person and with my husband being CEV on chemotherapy, these wipes have been such a peace of mind. I would absolutely recommend these to others but this would definitely be something that I would worry that they’d be expensive which would put me off using regularly.

I don't think so, they were a bit small and I imagine expensive. I think they might be useful for specific circumstances, like on library computers for example, where many people touch them. Less useful in the home imo.

When I opened the first packet my bubble friend and I collapsed into giggles at the size of the wipe as we were expecting something much bigger!

They are so small that I struggled to use them on even the door handles and light switches. I wanted to use them on the bin, kettle and gate handle but they are just too small to be feasible.

They didn't encourage peace of mind as they were too small to use effectively and therefore I'm not confident they will have been able to do their job. If they were a decent size I'd probably use them everywhere.

4. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?
I would not feel confident in recommending them to a friend in their current form. However, if the size was increased significantly and the price was right I would consider buying them in future as I like the concept.
