This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who have been testing LiquidNano’s SteriWipes, antibacterial wipes powered through nanotechnology leaving surfaces protected against 181 bacteria and viruses for 7 days from just one application.

Here’s what LiquidNano has to say: “LiquidNano is a smart coatings business with existing products for the mobile, marine, automotive and textile sectors. We are about to launch a new product called SteriWipe which is aimed at protecting high touch household surfaces like: door handles, children's toys, mobiles, tablets, high chairs, game controllers, etc. Once a surface is protected with SteriWipe an invisible layer of LiquidNano is left on the surface which not only kills any existing pathogens but will continue to kill any new pathogens that come into contact with the surface for a further 7 days without the need to re apply.”

You can find out more about SteriWipes here.

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, as well as completing the short survey we’ve sent you.

  1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?
  2. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?
  3. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?
  4. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I took them to work and used them in high traffic areas, and on personal phones, kids tablets etc

  1. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?

Good, but smaller than I thought they would be

  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

Yes I was pleased to try them, and seemed to give more peace of mind than plain disinfectant

  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

Yes

  1. Light switches, door handles, edge of doors where DS grabs them, phone and my laptop keys.

  1. They were very small for what they were- if I would have wanted to clean a larger area e.g. hand rail on the stairs I would have needed to open several packets. Also, they reminded me of alcohol prep wipes. Is there any way of verifying that the protective effects last for a week.

  1. Yes, as they arrived the morning after DS had me awake most of the night with noro.

  1. If they were bigger perhaps and there was a way of verifying the scientific claims then yes.

  1. I used the wipes on door handles, light switches and pulls, stair banister and phones

I like the concept, easy to use, convenient.. although they were very small, could do with being a bit bigger
  1. They should have given me peace of mind but I still found myself regularly wiping above surfaces down... I think I found it hard to believe that a surface can stay sterile for 7 days and that through the use of a small wipe
  2. I probably wouldn’t buy again due to reason mentioned above but I would tell others about it as I’m sure others would benefit from it

  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

They do for the longer protection, yes

  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

I would, depending on the price point.

  1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?

I used them in my phone and tablet, and also on door handles and light switches. I found them most useful for the phone and tablet - they were a bit fiddly to use on other things.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?

They were much smaller than I was expecting! I also found all the warnings (about the liquid being flammable and toxic to aquatic life) a bit disconcerting, and the instructions are more precise than I was expecting (20 seconds on one side, 30 seconds on the other, allow to dry and then wipe with a dry cloth).

  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

They did, though I also felt a bit guilty about them as they are one use. It would also be nice - though impossible! - to see how effective they really are, especially after a week.

  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

I would use and recommend them, but I think I'd only use them for certain things, such as cleaning phones once a week. They'll also be useful to have for hospital visits, as they fit into my bag easily and they'd definitely give peace of mind in that circumstance.

  1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?

Phone, door handles, taps, light switches.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?

I liked how they are individually wrapped- useful for keeping in a bag or the car.
They were smaller than I expected but I could wipe quite a lot with just one.

  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

They cleaned well and I felt reassured that items that are used a lot were protected.

  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

I would buy them again. I would recommend them.

  1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?

Door handles, inc fridge door handle, remote controls, phones and consoles, car keys. Most useful for car keys which I worry about as they are touched most often when I'm out and about.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?

They gave me peace of mind but seemed too small to be used on larger areas which I would have liked to have given a good clean such as handrail on stairs and kitchen counters. My son has recently had Covid so this would have been really useful!

  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

I was very pleased to be chosen to trial them as we are an immunocompromised household and with a recent case of Covid in the house being able to use this technology definitely gave some peace of mind.

  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

It would be great to know more about the technology, especially if subsequent cleaning negates the long term protection, but I would recommend if more information were available, especially if they were made available in a larger form.

  1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?

I tried them on devices (mobile phones, iPads, game controllers etc), door handles, light switches, bannister, kitchen surfaces.
They were definitely most useful for smaller things - so devices, door handles, light switches etc.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?

I thought they were very good for smaller areas. Too small for wiping larger areas.

  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

I liked the fact it meant I bothered to clean the smaller things. Sometimes, when I’m short on time & harassed, I wipe over larger surfaces with spray & cloth, or a larger wipe, then leave smaller surfaces. In addition, it always seems like a waste to use a bigger wipe on just a small device, and obviously I’m not going to spray my phone with anything!

  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

Depending on the price, I may buy them.

I used the wipes on loads of surfaces - mobile phones, tablets, door handles, light switches, bannisters, remotes etc and found them useful for all but more so the smaller items rather than cleaning the bannister.

At first I thought they may be a little small but actually on the smaller items they were perfect. Felt strong enough when using - didn't rip or fray etc.

Using any aniti-bac/steri cleaning products at the moment ticks a box for me - I just want to know I am doing everything I can to rpotect my family at this tricky time. I love the concept behind this product - but how do I know it protects for 7 days? Guess I would just have to trust the scientific blurb behind them??

They were handy and I would recommend to certain people I know but for others price may make these non viable - I'm not sure they're for eveyone...

  1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?

I used them on a lot of the door handles inside and out and the tap handle as that's what we touch first before washing our hands after coming home.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?

I liked them but found them too small.

  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

Yes they gave me peace of mind a lot more than my usual cleaning method.

  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

Yes but would be much more likely to buy if they were bigger.

1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?

I used the wipes on phones, tablets, remote controls, door handles and light switches.
I found them most useful on phones and tablets, you could do 2 or 3 items before it dried out, however I felt that they were useful on all the items I used them on. Due to the size and smell I didn't feel comfortable using them in the kitchen.

2. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?

Overall I liked them, they were strong when using^ they didn't fall apart h^owever^ they were too small. I would prefer a bigger wipe, they also had quite a strong scent when you used them, it dissipated quickly but was slightly off putting.^

3. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

I felt that overall I had more peace of mind with my children & carers phones being 'protected' and knowing that high use items were not going to be a source of cross contamination. It was good to know that They only needed repeating every few days

4. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

^If the wipes were at a good price I would definitely consider buying them. I liked that they were individually packed, so perfect for taking out with you and cleaning anything you needed too such as a table or desk, communal phone at work, trolley/baskets at shops & they are great for use in the car.

I think I would probably recommend them to others, especially for protecting their phones.^ *

Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?
I mainly used them on my mobile, but also for giving the car a quick once over (steering wheel, gear stick, radio knobs, handles).

What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?
I liked them. They are easy to pop in your handbag. My mobile has been one of the main areas I struggled with. For the first few months of the pandemic I got in the habit of just leaving it at home so I didn't have to worry about it.
I liked being able to give it a clean Smile

How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?
They are very easy to use and definitely made me feel better about my phone.

Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?
Depending on the price yes I would.

Thank you for the trial.

  1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Anything that was touched frequently and this included keyboard and mouse, door handles and some table surfaces. Which did you find the wipes most useful for? Everything - it was great to wipe on and off so I loved it.

  1. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes? Loved that it was great to clean and get rid of germs keeping you protected for longer too, very reassuring to know especially during this pandemic.

  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? I felt safe using it as I knew I was protected for longer and that surfaces were free of germs. Also the handy packs made it easy to carry around with me. Did using them encourage peace of mind? Yes it did - trusted it to protect my and my family.

  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others? Yes I would buy them in the future but would love one I could use on hands to wipe off rather than only surfaces. I will recommend as it's great protection for the whole family.

1. Which items or surfaces did you use LiquidNano’s SteriWipes on? Which did you find the wipes most useful for?
I tried them on door handles and light switches. They're far too small to use on anything else.

2. What were your overall thoughts on the wipes?
When I opened the first packet my bubble friend and I collapsed into giggles at the size of the wipe as we were expecting something much bigger!

They are so small that I struggled to use them on even the door handles and light switches. I wanted to use them on the bin, kettle and gate handle but they are just too small to be feasible.

3. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?
They didn't encourage peace of mind as they were too small to use effectively and therefore I'm not confident they will have been able to do their job. If they were a decent size I'd probably use them everywhere.

4. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?
I would not feel confident in recommending them to a friend in their current form. However, if the size was increased significantly and the price was right I would consider buying them in future as I like the concept.

I thought they were okay. I prefer wipes which can clean your hands too.
  1. How did you feel about using SteriWipes? Did using them encourage peace of mind?

Not sure - I wasn't clear on whether protection lasted a week if you cleaned during that time? I'm not sure I could trust it to work for a week without cleaning.
  1. Would you buy the wipes in future, or recommend them to others?

I don't think so, they were a bit small and I imagine expensive. I think they might be useful for specific circumstances, like on library computers for example, where many people touch them. Less useful in the home imo.
