This is the feedback thread for the 150 Mumsnet users who have been testing Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread. This product test was open to all MNers with at least one child aged 1 to 10.

We all had toast. I had some with marmite for breakfast, DD1 had it with marmalade, DH with just butter and dd3 Nutella. I also had a sandwich for lunch.

We all enjoyed it. No more clamouring for ‘proper white bread’ from the children who genuinely are happy for me to keep buying it.

I used to prefer whole meal bread. But the children were no longer willing to eat it. So we started getting half one half the other as a compromise. This is the best brand of this, the tastiest version of all we have tried. Added vitamin d at the time of Covid is a huge bonus.

Yes. It is tasty and everyone in our family enjoyed it despite differing tastes in bread.

I would definitely be keen to try 50/50 crumpets or English muffins.

I received my voucher but I haven't been able to purchase the item. It has not been in stock in Asda or Sainsbury's.

Sandwiches, With Marmite for boiled egg soldiers, toast, and the final slices I made breadcrumbs out of and made fishcakes with.

1. What did you and your family think of Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread?

On the whole we liked it, it made crunchier toast, and the sandwiches were less stodgy - which you get with while bread sometimes.

1. What did you like most about Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread?

The distinctive packing was good, (we initially thought it was half totally brown and half totally white because of this - silly me) I liked that it has vitamin d and Calcium and when I showed this to my children - they ate it happily.

Yes I would, it's a great addition to the range.

In several ways. We had toast with smashed avocado. Toast with butter. Toast with peanut butter. Bread soaked in beaten egg and fried. We also had cheese and onion toasties made in a sandwich cage in the toaster.

I thought it was good - made a really nice toastie. I love wholemeal bread , but the commercial stuff can be a bit dry and scrapy. This was not at all. The most impressive thing was how much the children liked it. Unprompted they raved about how tasty it was and enjoyed the fact it was not white aeriness and not heavy wholemeal. They liked the texture and the flavour. They thought it worked really well with sweet and savoury toppings.

I always try to get the children to eat wholemeal bread,to increase fibre intake - but the younger one especially pushes back and does not like it, because the taste is too dominant. This is a really good compromise. I especially in these days liked the way there was added immune system boosters.

Yes, I would. It was still on sale for £1 in Iceland, so especially good value.But even at 1.50, it is tasty bread that seems to go down well with people with varying tastes.

seeded - my absolute favourite bread. Any eeds at all.

Has anyone else struggled with actually finding the stuff?! Been to big Tesco twice plus Lidl and nada..

We used it for toast, buttered with soup, and for sandwiches.

2. What did you and your family think of Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread?
We liked it. We usually have wholemeal bread. This Warburtons bread was softer which meant it wasn't as dry as the bread we usually have. It made good toast and was nice with soup. I'm not sure we'd swap to it completely as I think wholemeal is still healthier, but I'd consider buying a mix in future.

How soft it was.

4. Would you recommend Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread to others?
I'd definitely recommend it to anyone with DC who don't like wholemeal, as we couldn't really tell it apart from white bread in texture so it's a good compromise.

Other 50/50 products like crumpets/muffins/bagels?

Also please make the packaging recyclable.

We had some marmite toast and a range of sandwiches with ham, chocolate spread and sausages.

No one said they didn’t like it and usually when I buy HOvis half and half my husband isn’t keen so I take that as a plus. My son ate the crusts on this bread which is an even bigger plus.

The children were unsure about the colour of it in sandwiches, but toasted they were none the wiser. The adults found it perfectly palatable, if a little sticky.

It was healthier than white bread and toasted the children seemed to enjoy it.

Yes, if they were concerned about the nutritional value of white bread but their children wouldn't eat wholemeal bread.

Pitta pockets/flatbreads that are easy for children to stuff.

We all had it as toast. We buy bread from the bakery for sandwiches.

We all enjoyed it. The children said it tasted like white bread (which they prefer to wholemeal usually).

That it was a way of getting wholemeal bread into children who aren't usually too happy withwholemeal bread. Also pleased it has vitamin D added to it.

It left us a bit meh to be honest. It's better toasted than in sandwiches. It was like confused bread. Didn't know what it wanted to be.

It lasted just about a week opened in bread bin. Although I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

Not if it's like the bread! We eat a lot of bread based items - wraps and sandwich thins so prob those but it needs to be a bit more substantial - whether it was just too thin?? Just didn't work for us.

Wraps, pitta bread and crumpets are all popular in our house, a 50/50 option of any of them would be good

We toasted some for beans on toast and made sandwiches with the rest.

My husband and son liked it. I'm not keen on bread such as this generally (I like granary) and my daughter moaned about it because it isn't white.

I like Warburtons products. This was no exception. Quality looking product that tasted nicer than other 50/50 breads.

Yes, it's not my favourite but husband and son were keen.

The slices are very big so maybe something smaller?

We used the bread for sandwiches and for toast.

My youngest wouldn't try it, stubborn toddler. My husband and eldest daughter both liked the bread and were happy to swap from white bread. I liked it as toast more than for sandwiches.

It felt healthier than white bread, and the thick sliced wasn't too thick.

Yes if they like best of both type bread.

We liked it! DD thought about it very seriously when I told her that we’d been asked to test it and said that it was good and she couldn’t really see any difference between this and her usual brand of half and half bread.

The flavour was pleasant - I’m not a huge fan of wholemeal bread because I think it tends to overpower the taste of most sandwich fillings. This was nice and I could still taste my cheese and salad.

Yes, absolutely.

Something like the Dutch krentenbollen - a kind of currant bun that is surprisingly nice with cheese in!

We had buttered toast to eat with soup. I also made a cheese and tomato sandwich so I could try the bread fresh.

We thought it was it was quite dry and lacked flavour. When toasted it became quite crumbly round the edges even though it was buttered. I'm disappointed as Warburton's products are usually good quality. I disliked the packaging as it is not resealable and not easily able to use a klippit when only a couple of slices have been used. I like to freeze a loaf of bread to use later in the week but I'm not sure how well this type of packaging would keep the bread if it was frozen.

No, as I think there are much better half and half breads available.

I can't think of any.

We had some as toast for breakfast and used some to make sandwiches for me and the DC.

We all liked it. The DC and DH prefer white bread for toast but were happy to accept this as an alternative. The DC also enjoyed it for sandwiches.

I liked that it gave the additional fibre content that white bread doesn’t but that the DC were still willing to eat it!

It made nice toast. It didn't upset my stomach which some similar products do.

Not a tester but I've used this bread before and the kids really enjoyed it - both toasted and not toasted. Pure nostalgia makes me prefer white though!
