This is the feedback thread for the 150 Mumsnet users who have been testing Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread. This product test was open to all MNers with at least one child aged 1 to 10.

Here’s what Warburtons have to say: “The Half White Half Wholemeal range not only provides a great way of getting more fibre into the diet, but also makes it easy for busy families to get a third of their daily intake. We all really liked it. Normally my children would rather white bread than wholemeal or 50-50 but they were really impressed and asked me to buy it again!

It was lovely and soft and had a pleasant mild taste. Like the added vitamins and its a healthier alternative to white bread.

Would like to see this variant in bread rolls too, as well as the sliced bread being available in thinner and thicker slices.

Lovely fresh bread and great toasted.

It is similar to other 50/50 but this toasted better and slices seemed more substantial.

Paninis would be great as my kids seem to prefer toasted paninis to sandwiches these days.

We get through a lot of wraps/ pittas/ crumpets so it would be interesting to try these as half & half

I had toast with Marmite for breakfast. One DC had toast with butter, another had a triple decker Nutella sandwich (v hungry after school!), another had beans on toast.

For context, we usually have wholemeal sliced bread, but I also buy white baguettes and pano is. Youngest DC loved it- said it was “soft, light and fluffy with a nice taste”, other 2 said “yeah, it’s fine, like the bread we have at school” and I personally found it a bit ordinary and flat, but I’m used to thicker sliced granary or seeded bread. I’ve since found out on the Warburton’s web site that you can get a thick sliced version of the same 50/50 loaf. It’s quite discrete on the packaging though.

That it has added calcium and vitamin D.

Possibly, but I would need to compare the price point and vitamin content against other loaves.

Healthier croissants would be top of the list. I was also thinking about long chunky sourdough fingers which could filled for snacks, dipped, made into garlic bread, toasted and topped for parties etc. I think they would be really versatile.

As toast for breakfast and as a sandwich for lunch

We liked it. it has a good flavour. I think the slices are thinner than other brands I have used (I chose thick sliced bread). My husband commented that he thought it took longer to toast than our usual brand.

I liked that the top was flat so it made making sandwiches easier.
It will also be good to use in a sandwich toaster.

3. What did you like most about Warburtons Half White Half Wholemeal bread?

I liked that is has the added vitamin D and calcium. If we don't have cereal or a yoghurt for breakfast we are still getting some of our recommended daily dose.

We ate the bread as toast with butter, DC had a ham and cheese toastie in a sandwich maker.

For toast we prefer Warburtons toastie bread, our favourite of all toastie breads. My DC couldn't tell the difference in their toastie so I would use this in the future to increase their wholemeal uptake.

The added benefit of eating wholemeal while it tasted of white bread. Also I liked the added vitamin D, especially as we go into winter.

Yes, but not to replace toastie bread.

We all loved it, some of us like brown and some like white so it was perfect for us.

It tasted soft and fresh, it made nice sandwiches and my little ones enjoyed it toasted with jam.

I really liked it and it was very soft. Kids ate it with no fuss. Prefer white but like the added fibre and vit D so we will buy this now

1- toasties for lunch, and also DD packed lunch
2- everyone ate it, its obviously good bread as you can tell the difference between it and supermarket brands
3- very soft, nice flavour

Toast for breakfast is our main use of bread, my partner has sandwiches for work occasionally too

they all liked it and said it was a nice change to white, without loosing out on taste

We've had eggy bread and ham sandwiches

I found it a bit drier than our usual loaf (which is premium so no hard feelings) and a bit blander but much better than I expected and better than many.

I do love the fact it's fortified. Especially with a teen who is often skipping cereal in the morning for a slice of toast to eat on route to school - for this alone I would buy it just for the Vitamin D.
However, as with every single bread on the supermarket shelves, it is bulked up with soya flour and I don't agree with added soya so for this alone, I won't buy it. I was super hopeful as it was half wholemeal...... alas

No. I will continue to recommend Jacksons.

Get rid of the soya and I will happily buy - go on, be a market leader on this. I do love your gluten free cob loaf, that is the best one. Could you do half and half gluten free options although your GF range is impressive. Half and half bagels, crumpets etc? Or just more fortified for the children in general across the range.

And I love the idea mentioned earlier to actually split a loaf half white and half brown for the family! Genuis! I would definitely buy that. (without the soya!) Or again, a split pack of crumpets - half for the kids with vitamins and the other half normal. Go up against the fortified cereal for breakfast for all those kids who don't like or are allergic to raw milk.

1 toast for breakfast sandwich for lunch ,wish it was a bit thicker for toast but lovely and soft.2 best bit so soft,3 i liked the softness the most, 4 yes i would recommend to friends and family 5 other things seeded loaf,fruit loaf,loved the bread only downside a bit thin

1. I tried it with eggs on. The children had it as toast with various toppings - peanut butter or jam.

1. We thought it was fine. It certainly got used up quickly. One of my children prefers white bread so it was a good compromise for him.

1. As above one of the kids doesn't like wholemeal or seeded bread too much but it's what I usually buy. He'll eat half and half if it's all we have so this was the best thing about it.

1. I'm not sure because you can get supermarket own brand versions for cheaper with a similar quality. I do like Warburtons white bread for toast on the weekend - I'd recommend that!

The older child said it looked different, but he ate it up no problem. We usually only have white bread, and he's VERY picky, so I was pleased.

An easy way to get a bit more fibre/wholemeal into the children's diet. Also had added Vitamin D.

Yes. It's slightly more 'bitty' than Kingsmill, but less sweet which I much prefer.

Pittas maybe? I love a pitta with houmous, and a good pitta is amazing.

If people were talking about bread options I might mention it - it's not a conversation I regularly have though!

Can't think of any, it seems to be a pretty wide range already, and make it too wide and my (not so big) local shops won't stock it anyway - I had to go to a bigger one to find this.

It was ok, but a little stodgy for our tastes, and the edges were too hard. It was better for toast than as a sandwich.

The bread was nice, similar to other half & half/50:50 breads that we have tried before. DP prefers white bread but will eat half & half so feels a little healthier.

I would if they were looking for an alternative to white as it's as soft but a bit healthier. I prefer wholemeal though.
