25 Mumsnetters recently tested out BEAUTY PIE – a beauty subscription service where you can buy luxury beauty products at factory costs. Testers had a free membership to trial BEAUTY PIE’s service, a boosted spending limit, 50% off their total basket, and 2 weeks to test out the products they bought.

Here’s what BEAUTY PIE has to say: “BEAUTY PIE – a revolutionary brand where you buy luxury beauty at factory costs - is the first ever buyers club for beauty addicts. Members shop for luxury products from the world’s leading beauty labs and save up to 85% on the regular price. Members get a monthly spending limit (dependent on membership tier), calculated by the typical price, that lets them buy up to 5x more for their money! It seems too good to be true, but it’s not! You get the same quality cosmetics and high performance skincare without paying for the middlemen, the celebrity marketing or the retailer costs. So YOU get a bigger piece of the BEAUTY PIE.”

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • How easy did you find signing up to BEAUTY PIE?
  • Did you understand the difference between regular price & members price?
  • Did you feel restricted by the spending limit?
  • What was your favourite product and why?
  • What would make you want to stay or leave BEAUTY PIE?
  • What other products or ranges would you like BEAUTY PIE to sell?

Everyone who leaves their feedback as required will be entered into to a prize draw to win one of three £100 vouchers of their choice.

Thanks and good luck!

How easy did you find signing up to BEAUTY PIE?

It was very easy and the instructions were very clear.

- Did you understand the difference between regular price & members price?
I did but it took a bit of getting used to and I found it hard to tally up what I could get for my spending limit without checking my basket. I get that BP want to make it clear that they are high end and that we are getting a good deal, but I wonder if this could be communicated in a different way. For example, instead of having a £200 limit, actually have a £20 limit with the actual prices. The 'high end' prices could be listed to illustrate what a good deal we are getting.

- Did you feel restricted by the spending limit?
There were lots of things I wanted so I had to prioritize, which was hard!

- What was your favourite product and why?

I bought the following:
Japanfusion™ Pure Transforming Cleanser
Super Retinol Anti-wrinkle Eye Cream
Plantastic™ Apricot Butter Cleansing Balm
Double-Sided Organic Cleansing & Exfoliating Cloths
Super Retinol Anti-aging Hand Treatment

I think my favorites are the eye cream, Japanfusion and the face cloths. I want to try some of the serums. I was hoping that the plantastic balm might be a cheaper replacement for my Emma Hardie balm but I am not loving the smell as much as I thought I would.

- What would make you want to stay or leave BEAUTY PIE?
I haven't found a 'must have' product that I couldn't live without I don't think. I'd like to try some more but I have quite a lot of products at the moment and need to use them up before I buy more! I am definitely thinking about signing up in the new year.

I love skin care products so haven't tried any of the make up yet. I would like to sign up to try a few bits.

- What other products or ranges would you like BEAUTY PIE to sell?

More BHA products (e.g. serum or toner), vitamin C eye cream, cleansing oil and a face oil suitable for oily skin.

  • How easy did you find signing up to BEAUTY PIE?

I actually found this bit confusing, but I think that was mainly because the link wouldn't work originally. Once I'd sorted it though it was simple enough.

  • Did you understand the difference between regular price & members price?

The difference was clear between the member and regular price. I think the regular price is mega steep, but the member price is super reasonable. I'm not sure whether the membership price offset with the fact I'll be buying each month would cost me more in the long run though...

  • Did you feel restricted by the spending limit?

I actually did feel restricted. I could've easily spent a fortune. I went for skincare products though which were more expensive so I was only able to get two. I would've liked the freedom to spend more.

  • What was your favourite product and why?

I only got two items, the charcoal mask and the eye mask patches. I genuinely love the eye masks, they actually did seem to make a difference! Plus you get quite a lot in a pack which is a bonus!

  • What would make you want to stay or leave BEAUTY PIE?

I think I will definitely consider signing up but free p&p would undoubtedly sway me.

  • What other products or ranges would you like BEAUTY PIE to sell?

I think I'd buy a hair care range from them if it was available, based on the quality of the items I purchased

I’d love to try this. And review the products and give hope and honest reviews so it can help others ans maybe advice them on the products.

Quick update - Beauty Pie got in touch after my review and offered me free standard delivery next time as my next day delivery was delayed.

How easy did you find signing up to BEAUTY PIE?
I found it really easy quick and simple and the pages loaded really quick.

  • Did you understand the difference between regular price & members price?
I did understand some people might find it confusing tho .
  • Did you feel restricted by the spending limit?
I did even tho spending was £200 it's because it takes of the money the product would be with out being a member and as the prices where at top end for beauty range the spending limit soon went so found I could buy everything I wanted but guess that's what keeps you coming back but for my self I would of liked bigger spending limit
  • What was your favourite product and why?
I liked the lip glosses as they stayed on all day and looked and felt fab I will be buying again .
  • What would make you want to stay or leave BEAUTY PIE? I liked the products so would stay but will sign up so I get members prices as wouldn't be able to afford or justify normal prices .
  • What other products or ranges would you like BEAUTY PIE to sell?
I wouldn't mind seeing bath/shower products or even more gift packs for men and women .

Overall I found it an easy quick website and even when I ordered a nail varnish and it went out of stock they emailed me to say and sent a refund straight away so no hassle with that .

How easy did you find signing up to BEAUTY PIE?

It was fairly straightforward, didn’t have any trouble signing up.

Did you understand the difference between regular price & members price?

I did understand it. It wasn’t until I started putting stuff into my basket that I really got it though.

Did you feel restricted by the spending limit?

Yes, I did feel rather restricted, there was a lot more I’d have liked to try and I was moving products in and out of my basket to get what I wanted and felt was good value.

What was your favourite product and why?

The super brow pencil is my favourite from my order. It’s the product I use every day, so easy to apply and a great colour.

I also like the Micro peeling sugar drops, they definitely make my skin smoother.

What would make you want to stay or leave BEAUTY PIE?

I would stay because the products are good and reasonably priced. I’m happy with what I got and don’t feel disappointed with anything I received.
The subscription does put me off, although I understand why it is there and how it works in theory. I just don’t always have the cash every month to purchase these things.

What other products or ranges would you like BEAUTY PIE to sell?

I’d like to see shower and hand wash.

bakingqueen · 24/10/2018 16:20

I found beauty pie really easy to sign up to however I was confused by the regular price and the spending limit.
I didn’t buy anything because I was really unsure of whether the colours would suit me
It seems like a good concept but I don’t but cosmetics on a regular enough basis to justify joining but I could see how this would be an idea that would work for a lot of people

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • How easy did you find signing up to BEAUTY PIE?

I found it very easy and didn't have any issues at all

  • Did you understand the difference between regular price & members price?

Absolutely, the difference between both was extremely clear

  • Did you feel restricted by the spending limit?

Not at all, although I think if I was looking for a lot of items it would be problematic. I didn't actually buy anything as I couldn't find a list of allergens after a recent allergy test

  • What was your favourite product and why?

My favourite was the retinol hand cream as I've tried a friend's recently and liked it, I need to wait until paydsy to buy my own sadly

  • What would make you want to stay or leave BEAUTY PIE?

I would really like to see branded items available, even if just as special offers as and when. Maybe a full colour oalletre6of the shades available would be handy as I found the colour swatches varied due to device settings and calibration. I'd like a help section which simply showed all the colours together that are available in a product (all lip gloss, all lip liner etc)
Other than the colour issue I'd love to see a truly ethical and sensitive skin range with items made without any MI or its associated/related ingredients

  • What other products or ranges would you like BEAUTY PIE to sell?

I'd love to see higher end branded make up and gifts. I'd really like an option of branded candles at reduced prices as I can't resist decent, quality candles such as Park. A teens gentle range would be a good idea too but not a babyish range?

Overall I've really liked the website and will be placing an order for myself and my eldest daughter on Friday (payday finally!).

MonteCarla · 25/10/2018 22:43

So do you have to pay a monthly fee in order to pay more on the products?

ToftheB · 26/10/2018 15:32

@MonteCarla It’s like a buyers club - you pay a membership fee and that gives you access to the products at reduced prices.

So I think I might get these for my birthday next month but I am worried I will look like a dude in a period drama - some minor leagues military fellow.

Thoughts!!
