This is the thread for the 24 Mumsnetters who tested out the HIPPOBAG and rubbish removal service.

Non-testers in order to be entered into a prize draw, where one MNer will win a £200 voucher, please answer this question: Share your golden rule for having a big clear out!

If you don't fancy reading the full thread, you can take a look at the highlights here: Mumsnetters review HIPPOBAG

Here’s what HIPPOBAG have to say: “HIPPO is the UK’s market leader of flexible waste solutions – Trusted by millions for waste removal across the UK, the iconic yellow HIPPOBAGs are the perfect way to dispose of household, garden or building waste. Arriving flat-packed and ready to use, customers are amazed at the amount of waste HIPPOBAGs can hold, and delighted by the 5-star collection service conducted by a fleet of HIPPO collection vehicles which crane the filled HIPPOBAGs from even the tightest of spaces. HIPPOBAGs are ultra-strong, holding up to 1.5 tonnes of waste, with the perfect size bag available for every job.”

Testers please answer the following feedback questions:

  • Which size HIPPOBAG did you use?
  • What did you use your HIPPOBAG for? Have you ever used one before?
  • What means of waste removal have you used in the past? (skip, going to the tip, man & van etc.)
  • What did you like most about the HIPPOBAG?
  • How did you find the collection experience and the overall quality of the service?
  • Based on your experience, would you use HIPPO again in the future? And recommend to friends?

All testers who post the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one tester will win a £100 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck

Don't take time to think about "If or When" you might need/ wear something because you'll convince yourself that the item might come in handy or you'll wear it next year and then you'll never get anything thrown away !!

Recycle, reuse, donate don't just throw it in the bin, your trash might be another persons treasure !! Your old clothes, toys, cups, bedding etc might not be useful to you but a homeless person might be saved from the cold/ heat by you donating them to a charity !!

Non tester;
Golden rule- never look back. Once it's in the pile/ bag to go then don't get it back out again!

Zooeymama123 · 06/04/2018 19:56

Non tester: my golden rule is not to be overwhelmed by all the clutter sometimes clearing little and often can make a big difference. A drawer, shelf or messy corner at a time.

Flomper · 06/04/2018 22:08

Share your golden rule for having a big clear out!

Get it out of the house and at it's final resting place (charity shop, dump, donation place etc) all on the same day - any delay is fatal!

hannahphoenix · 07/04/2018 09:35

NON TESTER - My golden rule is a room at a time and you have to be ruthless. If i havent used it in past year its gone which is my rule

Jinglesplodge · 07/04/2018 15:39

Non-tester - the golden rule in our house for a big clear-out is zero tolerance for clutter. If you don't use it or had forgotten you had it, you don't need it!

My golden rule for clearing out the loft is making sure you don't shut the cat in there afterwards by accident Blush

NauticalDisaster · 07/04/2018 21:39

My golden rule when having a clearout is to make sure my children are not here to object to the throw our or donate piles!

k8vincent · 08/04/2018 20:18

My golden rule: Be ruthless and make sure you clear out when nobody else is around to remove things from your clear out pile.

bec4everuk1 · 09/04/2018 11:41

Non Tester:- My top tip is if not used it in the past year it's not needed don't hoard items get rid x

KandJblog · 09/04/2018 14:13

My golden rule for having a big clear out is to get rid of anything that hasnt been used or enjoyed in the last year!

mrsglowglow · 09/04/2018 15:15

Non tester- my goldrn rule when having a clear out:

Make sure the kids are awau from the house. Get the stuff out of the house on the day either in the bin or drlivered straight to the charity shop if good enpugh to be reused.

Once you've decided to get rid of something get it out of the house as soon as possible. Out of sight, out of mind! If it's sat in the hall waiting to be disposed of someone may waver and before you know it, it's crept back into another room!

Sugarhouse · 09/04/2018 21:27

My golden rule is only do it when your really in the mood to be ruthless otherwise I end up getting all centimental and keeping stuff I just don’t need or stuff for just in case situations that never come
