We’ve got together with Simply Beef & Lamb to find 100 MNers to take part in Love Lamb Week and test out 1 of 5 new lamb recipes. Each tester was sent either: garlic & mustard marinated lamb steaks, lamb caesar salad, lamb leg steaks with a paprika & herb rub, teriyaki lamb stir fry or a quick lamb wrap recipe to try with a loved one.

Here’s what Simply Beef & Lamb have to say: “We’d like to give parents the confidence to cook with lamb midweek, using lamb leg steaks as an easy introduction. They are versatile, relatively low price and can be cooked in less than 30 minutes.”

If you’ve taken part in this test, Simply Beef & Lamb would like you to post on this thread, answering the questions below:

  • Which lamb dish did you cook? Did you and your loved one enjoy the taste?
  • How easy did you find the dish to cook?
  • Do you consider it to be a healthy meal?
  • Did you consider the dish to be good value? What made it good value?
  • Would you buy lamb leg steaks again? If so why?

We’d also love to see some photos of the finished #lovelamb dishes and/or the cooking process, so please do share some on the thread if you can!

All those who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  • Which lamb dish did you cook?
We cooked the lamb wraps.

Did you and your loved one enjoy the taste?
We all enjoyed the wraps, even the kids!

  • How easy did you find the dish to cook?
It was very easy to cook.

I thought it was a very healthy meal and would cook it for us all again.
  • Did you consider the dish to be good value? What made it good value?
I think it was good value for a healthy family dish. Quality food does have a cost associated with it.
  • Would you buy lamb leg steaks again? If so why?
I would buy them again and would like to try some of the other recipes too. We all enjoyed it and it's nice to have something different for a change.

  • Which lamb dish did you cook? Did you and your loved one enjoy the taste?
We made the garlic and mustard marinaded steaks, we are both lamb lovers and thought this dish was absolutely delicious ! The lamb was tender and we're big garlic fans so the flavours were just perfect for us, even the kids enjoyed it !
  • How easy did you find the dish to cook?
Found the dish very easy to cook, and not very time consuming at all. After some debate we decided to cook it on the grill rather than the BBQ as we have a charcoal BBQ and didn't want the taste to be altered.
  • Do you consider it to be a healthy meal?
I wouldn't go as far as to call it a particularly healthy meal (although some small alterations could improve it's healthiness), but I'd call it a balanced meal and I'm more than happy to add this to the recipe binder and make it a fairly regular addition to our meal plans.
  • Did you consider the dish to be good value? What made it good value?
Lamb is not something that we eat too often as it's one of the most expensive meats in our supermarket, it's a treat that we enjoy now and again, considering this meal doesn't have many ingredients I would call it fair value but not particularly good value.
  • Would you buy lamb leg steaks again? If so why?
I would certainly buy lamb steaks again for this recipe, like I said we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal and everyone wanted to add it to the meal plan rotation, which I'm happy to do !

minted lamb chops - easy to eat, great to get my little one involved, as we gather herbs from the garden to make a homemade marinade - quick to cook under grill and can be served with almost anything
AND EVERYONE EATS THEM!!!

  • Which lamb dish did you cook? Did you and your loved one enjoy the taste?
The teriyaki stirfry. We liked it. I would not normally have made anything japanese so that was a good change. Sesame seeds were a good addition.
  • How easy did you find the dish to cook?
Very quick and easy.
  • Do you consider it to be a healthy meal?
A big plate of protein and veggies - couldn't be healthier! Not quite sure about the sugar / salt content of the teriyaki sauce but definitely a healthy dinner.
  • Did you consider the dish to be good value? What made it good value?
Lamb is always a little on the expensive side but well worth it. I'd probably make this every few weeks.
  • Would you buy lamb leg steaks again? If so why?
Yes. Tasty, quick to cook, versatile (now that I have some new recipes for it anyway!)

Which lamb dish did you cook?
we cooked the herb and paprika rub recipe
Did you and your loved one enjoy the taste?
dh and I enjoyed it, me more than him but I love the paprika taste. He suffers from indigestion with it. The children found it too 'spicy' for them. Dh said it was a little too herby as well.

  • How easy did you find the dish to cook?
the dish was really easy to cook and the children enjoyed mucking in and helping too. It was easy for them to follow the recipe which was a plus as we are encouraging them to take more of an interest in how we prepare our food, rather than just bung in the oven jobs.
  • Do you consider it to be a healthy meal?
yes I do. I did do the dish with wedges as it was suggested. But you could easily use baby or boiled potatoes, or a salad for a lighter meal.
  • Did you consider the dish to be good value? What made it good value? Lamb isn't the cheapest meat at the moment, so I wouldn't necessarily say it's good value. I paid £5.50 for 4 steaks. But considering everything else for our house is pretty much store cupboard ingredients, I didn't feel it was excessive as an occasional dish.
  • Would you buy lamb leg steaks again? If so why?
surprisingly i would. The ones I picked were lean and not fatty like a leg joint might be. It didn't take too long to cook either so for a pleasant evening or special meal they would be nice. The children prefer roast lamb to this dish so I wouldn't do it for them again.

Yes
  • Did you consider the dish to be good value? What made it good value?
