Are you looking to declutter, or have stuff you have been meaning to sell but haven’t got round to it yet? Selling regularly but not using eBay? This is the test for you!

We have been asked by the team at eBay, to find 1000 MNers to put them to the test and to share their feedback on a survey.

For this test we are specifically looking for UK Mumsnetters that never listed an item on eBay before (first time listers) and users that haven’t listed anything for the last 365 days.

What is eBay?
~ eBay is the world's biggest online marketplace; a place for buyers and sellers to come together and buy or sell almost anything!
~ A seller lists an item on eBay, from antiques to cars, books to sporting goods. The seller chooses to accept only bids for the item (an auction-style listing) or to offer the Buy It Now option, which allows buyers to purchase the item straight away at a fixed price.
~ In an online auction-style listing, the bidding opens at a price the seller specifies and remains on eBay for a certain number of days. Buyers then place bids on the item. When the listing ends, the buyer with the highest bid wins.
~ In a Buy It Now listing, the first buyer willing to pay the seller's price gets the item. Buying and selling on eBay is easy and it's fun.

Note:
All testers will need to create (or use their existing) eBay account and also have a PayPal account - if you don’t have an eBay account then you will need to create one before signing up.

All testers will need to be registered members of Mumsnet.
All testers will need to agree to list two items on eBay (for at least 14 days or more) which they would like to sell. We will send selected testers some guidance and support on how to add a listing.
Limited to 1000 testers. Sign up before 10th September at the latest (recruitment might close earlier than this). T&Cs apply - please read.
Listings must start between the 21st August and 30th September.
Selling and listing an item on eBay can and does incur small fees - for more info see here and there's a fee calculator here.

All testers will need to share feedback after they have completed their listing on a survey form (we will email you a link).

If you’re interested in taking part, please sign up here.

All those selected (if selected, you will be emailed by Mumsnet) and who go through the process of listing at least two items each via eBay and sharing their feedback on a survey by 16 October 2017 will be sent a £20 PayPay credit by eBay at the end of the project (by end of October) as well as being entered into a prize draw where one person will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list) from Mumsnet.

Thanks and good luck!

I listed 4 items which all sold straight away. I posted them today but can't work out how to mark them as 'dispatched' on eBay. Can anyone help?

asuwere · 25/09/2017 14:15

muminthecity on the selling section of 'my ebay', at the far right of the item, it should say 'more actions' with a little drop down, from there you should find 'mark as dispatched'. Hope that helps.

MoanaofMotunui · 29/09/2017 09:50

Do we fill in the survey once our listings have ended? Or can we wait until the items have been receive and feedback has been given by the buyer?

Starting to get a bit jittery now as I've been reading some of the stories below and am off to post items tomorrow!

asuwere · 29/09/2017 15:53

The survey is only about the listing process so you could do it now - was surprised how little was asked in the survey.

MoanaofMotunui · 29/09/2017 17:01

Thank you asuwere

AnnMumsnet · 29/09/2017 17:03

thanks guys - if anyone needs the survey link etc or any instructions for this please drop me a note Smile

MoanaofMotanui - I was exactly like you and really nervous when I started the trial. I've sold 14 items so far and everything has been straightforward to date. Hoping I'm not going to jinx it now.Hmm

MoanaofMotunui · 03/10/2017 01:56

Starlight- that's fab! I'm glad things are going well, it's nice to hear a positive story!

I've sold 3 items so far and posted them on Saturday. Just waiting to hear from the buyers upon receipt... if all goes well then I'd like to sell a bit more.

Thank you x

soontobe6 · 10/10/2017 09:40

Just sold 2 items. Low value but was surprisingly easy. It has definitely encouraged a much needed big declutter. Thank you.

falgelednl · 15/10/2017 12:17

I was a bit unsure especially after reading so many unfavourable comments but it actually proved pretty easy.

BigGrannyPants · 15/10/2017 19:11

MN I haven’t had the link to the survey and the deadline is tomorrow?

TimandGinger · 15/10/2017 20:47

I would have liked an opportunity to give a bit more feedback on the survey. I found that it kept on defaulting back to an old address and I had to update that in several different bits of Ebay which seemed unnecessarily complicated and frustrating. There was no opportunity to mention any of that on the survey which was a shame. However I did manage a sale.

BearFoxBear · 16/10/2017 14:40

I agree, the survey was terrible, there was no opportunity to give real feedback.

I did manage 2 sales, one of which has turned into a total nightmare with a non payer who then sent rude messages. Of course the minute she received said item she didn't want it and said it was faulty (very obviously not). EBay have been absolutely useless in dealing with it. This is exactly why I stopped selling on ebay in the first place, too much emphasis on protecting the buyers which ends up shafting the sellers. This has done nothing but put me off ever doing so again.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 21/10/2017 17:47

Anyone had their £20 yet? or is it end of October that we get it? Just curious! ;-)

starlight36 · 21/10/2017 23:13

Not yet but it said by the end of October so just another week to wait. Grin

BigGrannyPants · 23/10/2017 19:52

Having now done this product test and submitted my feedback (hopefully I will still qualify as an error on the feedback link meant I submitted a few hours past the deadline), I actually managed to sell one of the items after that. It was bought and picked up by the buyer the same day, but eBay offered buyers card payment within the PayPal option but in order to get this payment you have to upgrade your PayPal and pay fees, just because the buyer used a card and not a bank account. On top of this, because I don’t sell on eBay, the funds are being withheld for 3 weeks. These are things that would absolutely put me off using eBay in the future, the buyer can still at any time cancel the PayPal payment even if he has taken the goods, so I now need to wait til the 11th Nov for PayPal/eBay to release the money and hope that the buyer is honest and decent and doesn’t cancel the payment!

tigerlillyd02 · 25/10/2017 16:38

Has anyone received their ebay credit yet? Where will it appear when we receive it - paypal or somewhere on ebay?
I quite enjoyed taking part in this. However, I still don't like selling on ebay. The fees are high (along with PayPal fees). Buyers can be strange and complain over nothing. Ebay / paypal seem to automatically refund them before you get the item back.
I prefer to use shpock or Facebook which means no posting, people collect the item, nobody complains and nobody is going to take the money off you before you get the item back. I do buy quite frequently on Ebay though.

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/10/2017 14:10

Is there an official feedback thread or was it just the survey?

MiddleClassProblem · 26/10/2017 15:55

Still waiting for credit here too. Does anybody know when it’s due?

tigerlillyd02 · 26/10/2017 20:48

Just the survey as far as I'm aware. Seems a few haven't received the credit yet. I'm not sure where to look for it though but perhaps they'll email us once it's sent and tell us more.

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/10/2017 21:00

As far as I know, Paypal email you if you have money paid in.
I've had nothing yet.

BigGrannyPants · 27/10/2017 12:59

I haven’t had the credit in my paypal either

IceBearRocks · 28/10/2017 09:52

I've had no credit yet either!!!!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 28/10/2017 20:56

It says in the OP that we'll receive it by the end of October, so I'm guessing Monday or Tuesday.

AVT5 · 29/10/2017 09:14

Hopefully get the credit soon :) enjoyed selling :)
