This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who tested a mattress from the the Hilary Devey Collection

More info and details here: www.hilarydeveycollection.co.uk/ - either a Diamond or Diamond Luxe Mattress have been put to the test!

Non testers, to be entered into a prize draw where one Mumsnetter will win a £300 voucher of their choice, please answer the following question: What are your best tips for ensuring a good night's sleep?

Here’s what Duvalay have to say “With over a third of our lives spent sleeping, picking the right mattress is an important factor in making sure you get a good night’s sleep. In an era of mass-production, turning to a handcrafted mattress can be a way of ensuring you don’t suffer from aches and pains after an uncomfortable night’s sleep. Combining traditional handcrafted bed-making techniques with the finest raw materials and innovation, the Hilary Devey Collection is a premium range of hand-made mattresses. Each one is produced from Duvalay’s new Yorkshire factory, which the company moved into a year ago, quadrupling floor space to keep up for the demand for Duvalay products. With Hilary (ex Dragons Den) at the forefront of the design of the collection, personally selecting key features and materials, the collection brings a fresh take to a male-dominated industry by providing affordable luxury with a glamorous edge”.

“The Diamond is a supreme quality mattress that features 2000 individually nested pocket springs. With a summer and winter side, it provides you with a good night’s sleep all year round thanks to its cotton side for summer, which wicks moisture away and a wool side for winter that provides a snug-like effect - furthermore it has been Tried and Tested by the Good Housekeeping Institute.

The Diamond-Luxe takes all the best elements of the Diamond mattress, including luxurious materials and hand side-stitched borders, and features a range of new elements that further add to its glamorous take on the perfect night’s sleep. It’s also one of the first mattresses to the UK market that offers both an ingenious new pocket spring called MidasTouch and a revolutionary new filling called Wooltec®. MidasTouch is a unique spring system that has been specially designed to offer initial softness but also provides much needed support once weight has been applied. Each spring is encased in its own fabric pocket, to actively reduce partner disturbance for a relaxing night’s sleep.
The Wooltec® filling is produced using one of nature’s finest materials, lambswool, and uses the latest is modern manufacturing techniques to create vertically bonded fibres, which allows air to circulate much more easily for greater temperature control. The specially bonded fibres also increase durability and comfort.

Testers, please answer the following questions:

First impressions - please share these - on delivery, comfort on first night, look on your existing bed frame, feel of the mattress cover - do share a photo on the thread if you can. We will add more questions to this thread later on.

Second batch of questions - to reflect on your reasons for taking part and your initial views of the new mattress.

Which mattress and bed size did you choose?
What is important to you when decided on a new mattress?
How important is it to have natural fillings inside your mattress?
How important is it for your mattress to be British manufactured?
On first impressions, do you think anything could be improved?
So far, do you think that your new mattress will improve the quality of your sleep and if yes, why?
Does Hilary Devey’s endorsement and influence on the collection have any impact on your perception of the collection?

Third lot of questions - now that you’ve had four weeks use of your mattress, we’d like you to answer a few more questions.

Are you finding your bed comfortable?
Has it improved sleep quality for you and your partner?
So far, are you pleased with the quality and look of your new bed?
Before having a Hilary Devey bed, did you know the features a handmade mattress offered? Are you now able to tell a difference?
Did you read the care instructions and are you happy with the guarantee given?

Now that you’ve had a little bit longer, please finish your testing with us by answering the following:

~ Are you still as satisfied with your bed (if applicable) as you were at the beginning of your journey with Duavay?
~ Have you found that the handmade finishes to your bed have made a difference to the quality of your sleep?
~ If you were to buy a bed again in the future, would you purchase handmade over mass produce?
~ If you were to buy a bed again in the future, would you consider buying a Duvalay mattress?
~ Do you think your Hilary Devey bed is value for money?
~ How important is it to have a summer and winter side to your mattress to keep you warm & cool in both season? Please number 1-10 with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
~ Would you recommend the brand to your family and friends?

Tweet your review to @DeveybyDuvalay - include @mumsnetinsight

Non tester - to have a calm house! I put my daughter to bed long before I need to go so we have time to be calm and quiet. Also we don't watch tv in the bedroom

Well what can I say, slept on the Diamond-Luxe last night for the first time. Wow! Super deep, super comfy. Quite firm, lovely and cool.
Amazing.

Non-tester tips for a goodnights sleep-
Pretty much the same as for my 6 year old daughter (lol)
A nice hot bubble bath (with lavender)
Clean sheets and PJ's (all washed in Lavender scented fabric softener)
A nice warm drink before bed (caffeine free obvs)
Take away all technology distractions at-least 30 minutes before you plan to go to bed
A nice big cuddle with my boyfriend and enough room to shove him away when I'm too hot

Be the opposite of me. Don't stay up until stupid o'clock, so you lie in bed counting the maximum sleep you might get. Don't use technology all evening. Don't start thinking about all the things you need to do tomorrow!

Read a book for a while instead...

melmoo · 24/07/2017 23:44

Non Tester

No screens (laptops, tablets, phones etc.) for an hour before bed time.

del2929 · 25/07/2017 00:55

thegirlwhowaited · 25/07/2017 01:17

A lovely shower or bath.
Dark and cool room.
Fresh ironed cotton bedding.
Wool duvet.
Open window.
Wee bit of noise. for half an hour or so (Comedy programme on the radio/sounds of the sea/snoring dog.)
Imaginary sheep to count - backwards from 100. Clears the day from your head.
And obviously a mattress that can cope with someone who likes a pie or two. Grin

A good book, at least an hour of devices before and a nice cup of hot milk works a treat for me :)

Top tip: get my parents to have the kids overnight.

Other than that, avoid caffeine, avoid iPads, have fresh sheets.

ustupidwoman · 25/07/2017 11:03

My top tip for a goodnight's sleep is...... a date with a handsome hunk of a man who sweeps you from the front door in his bmw to a fabulous meal at a top class restaurant; followed by a night's dancing with a great band and music; following the wining and dining - he sweeps you off to a 5 star hotel - massive bed, beautiful surroundings and ... following an hour or two of wild abandon passion ... you have a great night's sleep!!!! Alas..... this is the reason why I haven't had a good night's sleep in years - so the only way I'm going to have is to win a new mattress and choose comfort over romance!!!

Clean sheets, clean body, open window, no booze, no kids!

Lfoulds0209 · 25/07/2017 13:27

I use a sleep tracker that uses sounds to help you doze off and it really does help

rocketriffs · 25/07/2017 15:11

Non Tester: Relax and let go the stresses of the day. Soak in a nice bath or meditate for 10 minutes before bed time.

FoodstuffFinds · 25/07/2017 20:59

Exercise in the afternoon, not too near bedtime but I find if you use your energy up you are more likely to sleep better.

Minnibix · 25/07/2017 21:01

My best tips would be

  1. Go to bed at the same time each night if possible
  2. Have a cool dark bedroom, its hard to sleep when you are hot
  3. No phones or TV in the bedroom

If you are still having problems a nice warm bath with some lavender oil helps

Caelaj07 · 25/07/2017 21:54

Try to relax in bed for a bit before going to sleep by either watching tv or reading a book and don't use your phone in bed.

oliveoyl72 · 25/07/2017 22:56

Non-tester
Different weights of bedding to match the seasons.
Black out blinds.
Ear-plugs if you have, like me (grrrr), a snorer.

sbruin1122 · 25/07/2017 22:57

An early night with a few sips of milk. on a hot night feet out of the covers!

hannahbjm · 26/07/2017 10:20

Non tester - My tips are to definitely have a cool bedroom, get fresh air circulating before you go to bed. Also limit screen time hour before bed so you have a peaceful mind

frances93 · 26/07/2017 12:40

Make sure you go to the toilet before going to bed, to reduce the chance of needing to go in the night. Never go to bed hungry, because chances are the pang of hunger will wake you!

rachaelsit · 26/07/2017 13:57

It looks a great mattress. A great mattress is surely the key to a good nights sleep, but whichever you choose be sure to try before you buy!

sarahbrokenshire · 26/07/2017 15:53

stay off your phone an hour before and clear your mind :)

Minnie43 · 26/07/2017 18:01

Ensure you keep to a regular bedtime, never go to bed on an argument, and settle the day's events in your mind before you hit the sack. If necessary, plan the following day's activities so you're clued up when you arise the next day. Thus, you can go to bed on a clear head, leading to a peaceful night's sleep :)

For me it is about the wind down process BEFORE actually getting in to bed. Turning off gadgets and electronics, reading a book or just listening to music and of course the creamy hot chocolate drink. I have to have a very dark room, no little glowing chargers or lights anywhere and the window open just a smidge for some fresh air

ellie17 · 26/07/2017 20:26

lots of exercise in the day and limiting devices a few hours before bed
